  1. Maybe better way to put it,gout is in remission. I started cutting down my Allopurinol dosage a year ago and completely quit Allo in May. Being in very low carb keto ( about 10 g carb/day ) for 14 months now, I have not had a single gout attack in eight months. I have eaten hot wings, anchovies, mushrooms, sometimes had red and white wine... anything... no flare-ups. My gout was really bad some years ago, both achilles tendons in flames at the same time etc. Any food seemed to trigger it. But cutting sugars/carbs eventually got rid of it. I just tested, had hot wings for dinner four days in a row. Fish eggs (caviar) at breakfast every day. Nothing. I can not take efficient gout painkillers , not even ibuprofen because of blood thinners so this is just great.
  2. Yep,especially after finding out about benefits in your own health... I for one don't want to get back to carb-o-land. 20+ years ago I was just curious. And I enjoyed the ketosis feel. Now it's about health too. Stent and heart failure and afib to name a few. I rarely need spray nitro any more. My gout is gone, I'm off allopurinol for half a year and eat anchovies, chicken wings, mushrooms, nothing triggers gout any more. I've been off statins for a year. Lost 28 kilos, normal bmi now. I can squat and get up again... just so much healthier all in all. Christmas hi carb diet week experiment did not matter. I'm back on track.
  3. Good, try more bacon and eggs.
  4. Oh I see. Does even fat rise glucose?
  5. Food / calorie restriction has never worked for me when in keto / carni / very low carb whatever this journey has been. I started experimenting in 2002 or so, Atkins first. Keto (name) had not been invented yet. Been on and off ever since. It's very easy to eat too little when you're in ketosis. No hunger. I have lost 28 kg in a year by eating a lot , lots of fats, and with minimum exercise. I have a stent and all the heart failures ever invented, can't exercise much at all. Motorbikes in summer are my main exercise. Walking is good, and I can do light HIIT. But exercise is not a good weight loss helper. Body fat burning in ketosis is good. You need enough dietary fat for that. I weigh and measure once a month. No stress. Good luck!
  6. I've been very low carb ,good ketosis, for over a year now, life has been good. Blood ketones around 1,5-2,5, sugar low and steady. But Christmas week I decided to eat some trad Christmas food including dark rye bread, green pea soup etc. No "wow-effects" but good food. Surprisingly little other effects either. I made sure I had enough fat all that week, bought a seven kilo (16 lbs) ham that came out delicious. Wife and me ate it in five days. Now I'm back on track, surprisingly no cravings. Here's The Ham at butcher's.
  7. Here is one more: Many think of "diets" as some kind of magic temporary quick fixes, often for weight loss. They have read "I lost 100 pounds in three weeks!" -interviews and get frustrated quickly because that did not happen. Patience is a rare virtue in Today's World.
  8. Yeah, flexibility really comes back. Part of it may be increased activity because of weight loss. Excercise is easier. And less joint strain from all that mass, too. A year ago I noticed it was hard to squat and especially get back up. This summer all that trouble was gone, I am riding fast sportsbikes @ 62 years. I have lost almost 30 kg in a year , I fit in my 90's leathers -and I'm staying here without dietary worries, all this is automatic by now. I'm not full carni though, 10 g carbs max per day keeps my keto going good.
  9. Here in Finland we have a company that makes good keto ice cream. 2,9g carbs, 20 g fat. Erythritol does not bother me. I had some canned herring last month, a few herring lunches with eggs. Hot days in the garden, nice. But I noticed my BP got much higher for two weeks, only then I realised that there is lots of sugar hidden in all canned herring! My one and only sugar accident this year. Blood ketones dropped for a while too. I can not have any sugar, bread etc. I start slipping little by little, a croissant next week, then chocolate, french fries the following week... sugar is a drug for me. I don't drink alcohol either because I get nothing out of a glass of wine or one beer. A case of beer is much better, or three bottles of red wine for cooking and dinner...
  10. I met a cardiologist the other day. Ultrasonic inspection. He was nice and polite -but everything was about cholesterol and cholesterol medication. Diet was never mentioned, he did not comment my weight loss in any way either. 67 lbs gone in eight months. Cholesterol number is the Gospel. I did not comment much at all. Good new is that my heart has not gotten any worse.
  11. My gout got quite serious when I was eating everything. I got on Allopurinol and it eventually helped. Summer -23 I could hardly ride motorcycles or walk, all summer. Gout hit my achilles tendons, too. Talk about pain. Me being on blood thinners, can not use ibuprofen or other painkillers. Ouch. But: The real help was quitting sugars/ other carbs almost completely. I get max 10 g carbs a day, zero sugar, and have been gout free all this year. I have also cut down Allopurinol from two 300 mg pills to 1/8 of a pill. I'll be completely off Allo next month. I ride motorbikes almost every day and need my big toes! So it was carbs that triggered gout in my case. Not fat or "little fish" or whatsoever chicken skin. Just carbs. My diet is high fat low carb.
  12. This has become my gold standard breakfast. No boredom in sight! My monthly measuring day showed good blood sugar (4,7) and blood ketones (2,6) plus a couple of cm thinner waist again and a couple of kilos body fat lost. I have dropped 27 kilos since November 110 kg. Feeling great. @ 23 BMI.
  13. Italian zero-carb, high fat spicy "Toscana" sausages. I guess I'm more "dirty keto" because of all the sausages I eat. But I could not keep my fat intake high enough by eating our very lean finnish meats. It leads to protein overdose and low fat. Or ground beef and bacon only. My breakfast is bacon and eggs, almost every day. Still tastes delicious. Salsicha pepperoncini, sauerkraut:
  14. Herring for lunch. A good fatty fish. My coffee is "Bulletproof",too. Me being a "High Fat Low Carb Ketovore", I take fat add-ons like coconut oil quite often. My fat intake energy % is above 75. Carbs max 10 g. At least 25 kg (50 lbs) body fat has gone since October. Blood ketones 1,5-2,5, feeling great. My arteries must be healing themselves, I have a stent, my strength and overall condition have not been this good in eight years on statins. Which I quit last Christmas.
  15. Not three pounds of beef here.... But a little beef-chilli-coconut stew. Lots of bacon fat and coconut oil. I eat some (msx 10g) carbs so there was a little bit of cabbage, onion and celery, too. Butter at every turn of course -and the stew was made in beef broth.
  16. I got a bit bored with all that water, too. So I tried this non-sugar add-water juice a few months ago and I've been drinking it without problems ever since. It has sucralose and Acesulfame K... I know artificial, possibly bad stuff. But I blend it pretty mild, got no sweet cravings and my body fat is disappearing very well. Looks like these particular sweeteners are doing no harm for my keto. I also drink water and a couple of mugs of Bulletproof coffee every day. This is in Finland, I bet there are similar products everywhere. I have said "no" to all sweeteners since 2000, until now.
  17. This is good: Mix approx. equal amounts of cottage cheese and eggs (I put 300 g cheese and three eggs) , spread on paper and bake in medium oven for 15-20 minutes. Cut in slices. This stays good in the fridge for a long time, good with Bulletproof coffee. Just spread on some butter and whatever you fancy. Can be used as wraps for Tortillas, too.
  18. Haha! It's not carb though,it's FI. I've had the speedo needle at 340 km/h, probably closer to 310 km/h in reality. A 2000 Kawasaki ZX -12R. Akrapovic full exhaust, 190 RWHP. Old & fast. I also have a 2001 version in green.
  19. I had an attack eight years ago. Got a stent -what did they do to you? I was told I got the attack because of my low carb diet, not my 40 years history of cigarettes & beer... I had quit both cig and alc three years before I got the attack. Docs blamed the fat. I was skinny then. And I have been on and off low carb since early 2000 Atkins times. I know this game and I like this. But: Yes,an attack scares and confuses you. I got scared and went low fat & statins for a while, felt like 200 years old and gained 30 kilos. Docs just gave more meds, I got gout etc on the way. Last November I had enough, got back to ketovore, quit statins and most of my BP meds, lost 25 kg already... and I'm feeling GREAT! Much stronger than in eight years. I'm riding motorbikes. Gout seems to be gone now, too. I still have some blocked arteries but I refused to get an open heart bypass surgery to fix them. I'm running on 75+ % fat energy, 10 g daily carbs max. 62 years now. Good luck with whatever you choose. We alone are responsible -and in charge- for our own health and diet. I'm being preached about the dangers of fat all the time, how it makes you fat and sick...
  20. Sugar diet, huh? Yeah,we humans used to eat whatever we had access to, whenever that was possible. No diet plans or choices. Just survival. We have completely different problems now, everything being available for us western, lucky folks at all times. I wonder how long all this luxury will last? We are using up all resources in such a manner that who knows when things are forced to change? Meanwhile I will enjoy very low carbs and high animal fat to stay in good condition.
