preaching the word
Yesterday I listened to my best friend go on about a number of health issues they are experiencing and also some severe immune system and healing challenges a younger family member is going through. Although I am medication free and experiencing improvements to my health on carnivore, if I try to talk about how good I am doing they dont want to hear. It'slike they completely turn off.

Doctors and hospitals
I remember years ago when I first realized that doctors were fallable as are we all. I also realized that they were very helpful for many things like helping us mend from broken legs. But I also realized it was up to me to keep me alive. Looking back I know that many medical interventions would probably not have been necessary at all had I started carnivore as a teenager when I first had problems with food.

Carnivore diet with budget restriction
When we just need a little snack or especially when we had cravings still we kept strips of cooked bacon in the fridge (we cook them on a baking sheet and then they keep in the freezer once cooked as well). We always cook extra for our meal and have leftovers available. Pork is more reasonably priced where we are so we offset cost with that and hamburger. We avoid hamburger patties here because they can contain fillers (carbs). We tolerate the pork well. We no longer use spices except for salt, pepper and garlic so we save money on all the extra sauces and spices we used to buy. Also very little waste on this diet so we save money there as well.

Being able to nap again
I remember when I was a child I could take naps and wake up refreshed. As an adult I slowly lost that ability and for the most part stopped napping. The reason was that I would usually wake up groggy, sometimes disoriented, with headache or ill with nausea and definitely not well rested. I realized just recently that I can now take a normal nap and wake up refreshed after an hour or two. This is new and only since being on carnivore. Such a simple thing but I'm so grateful.

Just another Nonbread-Unbread
We found these kinds of recipes very helpful when transitioning to full Carnivore, particularly good for variety.

Have to put fat in measure as my kidney regress a littel bite?
My eating habits and health were poor when I started. I totally agree with you all that where you start is important when gaging progress. And sometimes I experience what appear to be setbacks, but I've realized it's my body trying to heal itself. Things improve month by month and this is perhaps one of the greatest lessons in patience and being kind to my body that I have ever experienced. I am so grateful for everyone being here.

Let's share shopping/buying tips
We found a local butcher where we can purchase our hamburger. It is more than Costco but we find we get a better yield from it per pound. We can also get local-sourced fresh beef liver so we are planning on making our own liver pate (we won't eat liver otherwise😄) using a carnivore pate recipie we found online. We can also purchase 1/4 and 1/2 sides of local beef.

Issues/concerns coming up with Carnivore diet
About month three with the weight loss I started seeing health problems that had been hidden by the excess body weight previously. I guess I was becoming so sick on my old diet that I was past being able to tell what was normal anymore. Months four to five has been about discovering the damage and healing. I am 29 lbs lighter and have about 20 lbs to go for my frame. I look forward to increasing activities as it comes off. I can actually take deep breaths with clear lungs now, less body pain and can visibly see muscle coming back.

Use your brain cells
I did use honey initially until I understood how on a carnivore diet, fat is the main fuel source, while on a typical diet, carbohydrates are the body's preferred energy source. So I stopped using it. And yes, I believed what they said about honey originally so your clip made me smile. Thanks!

Returning to Carnivore
Hi Kate! Good to see your commitment to seeking better health. I identify with suffering from sugar addition in whatever form it took and never understood the need for corks in a wine bottle or bag clips on chip bags. So basically I understand my relationship with sugars and carbohydrates in very unhealthy. So when I weigh the benefits against loss of my new eating plan, I find the benefits far outweigh any extremely temporary satisfaction of going off my meal plan.

Insulin
I'm absolutely amazed at how critical a role insulin plays in our health and how many medical conditions evolve when things go wrong. "Hence, a reproductive and survival advantage appears to exist in individuals with a greater degree of insulin resistance on a low-carbohydrate diet. This inherited insulin resistance may involve different genes/enzymes than dietary-induced insulin resistance. Insulin-sensitive subjects seem to find a low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet difficult to tolerate, with side effects such as nausea and headache [32, 33]. On the other hand, insulin resistant subjects [34, 35] and genetically obese animals [36] appear to tolerate a high-protein diet very well. Studies have shown high-protein diets produce the most desirable metabolic profile in individuals with type 2 diabetes [37–39" https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3253466/

What Did You Eat Today?
We've started roasting a couple of different meats at one time. For example I'll roast pork and chicken at the same time and eat over a couple of days. I cook in iron frying pans and add water to the pan to create a gravy we can use. I made broth with bones until I had a jelly so we will eat that today. Tonight we are having burgers which I cook the same way.

Do you use Stevia?
I used honey in my coffee up until recently, but stopped using any sweeteners years ago. I think of my eating plan right now in terms of eliminating any unnecessary variables to see most clearly how my body is responding. But eliminating has been a more gradual approach to get to where I am and so far it has worked well for me. I find if the question of whether I should be doing something comes up and if Im in touch with myself I usually know what to do.

Brain Health
I am new to this group and just learning my way around, so thanks to everyone. There's lots of helpful information. What I was wondering about concerning brain function was that recently I am experiencing what I can only describe as beautiful bouts of joy and happiness. Im thinking my neurotransmitters are firing better. Anyone else experienced this?

newbie 90 day challenge
Hi Lee! When we started we experienced some pretty harsh flu-like symptoms, but we were eating a lot of processed foods and sugar for years, so I guess like others say it depends on where you are starting from. We are feeling much better now especially sticking to our eating plan (we dont cheat or drink or do drugs in order to expect the best results for ourselves). I figure it took years to get here so I must be realistic about my expectations. All the best to you.

Cost of Carnivore? Who's done the math?
Because we are rural we do our major food shopping about once a month with the exception of buying cream so we shop locally for that. Our grocery bill has dropped substantially but we need to monitor longer term to answer your question. But we find there are other savings and benefits as well like in hydro/gas, less requirements for cooking paraphernalia, time savings, less stress around meals and way less food waste, and fewer health related expenses.

New to Carnivore
I personally chose to move to carnivore. My life eating habits got me in a poor state of health so I figure it's going to take time to recover. I am currently medication free, drug free and alcohol free. I'm hoping to give myself a good start and take the time I need for my body to recover as well. So thankyou for your post and all the best to you in your journeys too.
