Keto Beat the Mediterranean DietKeto Beat the Mediterranean Diet
A new randomized trial from Washington University, published in Cell Metabolism (August 27, 2026), compared three diets in people with obesity, prediabetes, and fatty liver:
• Ketogenic (4% carb / 73% fat / 23% protein)
• Mediterranean (50% carb / 35% fat / 15% protein)
• Very-low-fat plant-forward (70% carb / 15% fat / 15% protein)
All food was provided. Weight loss was matched at about 10%. Muscle insulin sensitivity improved about 50% on every diet. The liver and blood sugar did not treat the diets as equal.
Keto cut liver fat 67% vs 45% on the other two diets, improved liver insulin sensitivity two to three times more, dropped 24-hour glucose and insulin harder, and sent prediabetes into remission in about 50% of that group vs 29% Mediterranean and 7% low-fat.

In a Clickbait Clinic segment with Stacey Dooley, and in a companion article by Dr. Alex George, the verdict was that a meat-only diet comes with long-term health risks and that he would not advise it because it raises "bad" cholesterol. The article calls the evidence unambiguous. The segment says an extreme meat-only diet can be bad for your heart.
Tonight we walk through what they actually claimed. No real evidence it helps. Red meat and cancer. LDL and heart disease. Fiber and carbohydrates as essential. Mediterranean as the better option. Then we put those claims next to the Harvard carnivore survey, the difference between fresh meat and processed meat, and a randomized trial where keto beat Mediterranean on liver fat and prediabetes at the same weight loss.
