JackieFaye got a reaction from Bob in Just joined communityYes, I do have several health issues. I think the main issue is that I am 84 years old and had weight loss surgery 33 years ago. The surgery caused malabsorption so I have to take very high doses of several vitamins, especially the fat soluble ones.

JackieFaye reacted to Bob in Just joined communityI'm just curious if you have any other health issues. Metabolic acidosis is often connected to another underlying condition.

JackieFaye got a reaction from Bob in Just joined communityMy son talked me into trying the carnivore diet. I tried it for two and a half weeks, I got metabolic acidosis and felt horrible, I had to go off it. I think my main problem was that I just don’t like to eat that much meat and especially fatty meat. I don’t know how people can eat that much of it.

Welcome to the board. Sometimes going cold turkey/hard core with a diet can be a struggle. It may be an easier path if you ease into the diet.
Some find it easier to go to a ketogenic diet first and then phase into a 'keto-vore' version and then maybe onto actually a carnivore lifestyle.
If you do nothing more than ditch the processed foods and sugars it will be an improvement to most any diet. The clean the carbs up a bit and use only fresh/grown vegetables but let proteins be your staple. Use butter or tallow to increase the fat content.
In time phase out/lessen the vegetable/carb intake. Bump up the fats and proteins.
I would imagine any where you wind up on the way to carnivore will be better than the Standard American Diet.
Best of luck, And welcome.

JackieFaye reacted to Geezy in Just joined communityWelcome to Carnivore Talk Jackie. I’m sorry you struggled with going carnivore but it does happen with some people, especially if they aren’t accustomed to eating fatty meat.
There are other ways you can help get your fat intake. You can make sure everything you eat is cooked in animal fats such as lard, tallow or butter. You can eat butter as a snack or as butter bites. You can use butter and MCT oil in your tea or coffee.
You could also ease into the diet by starting out with more of a keto diet and slowly ease into carnivore over time. And maybe you just might not be cut out for carnivore and ketovore would suit you better.
