Sheila reacted to Scott F. in Electrolyte JittersGood to hear.
For me, mostly because I am dumb like that, in the near future I would ease up on the supplements I just added to see if the issue returns. If so, then I need that new amount. If not, it could be something else and the electrolytes and extra hydration is hiding it. (I'm not much on medicine at all, so I need to know I am not just taking something to be taking something. Again, 'cause I'm dumb like that, LOL)
But it is great to hear you worked thru the issue and got to better ground.
Always good to hear when something works out to the good.

Sheila reacted to Flackowitz in New to youHELLO CARNIVORE WORLD!! well a portion of it but it’s a great start. My friends call me Flackowitz, I have been on carnivore for 3 months and I feel amazing. It all started when my therapist told me to try it for 30 days to help with my ADHD, 3 months later and I’m still going strong. My wife and I noticed how it changed everything in our relationship, in our home, in all of our life. As for the ADHD, I feel a lot more focused, confident, I used to have breakdowns where I would hate everything I would do and say and forget. Now the only thing is that for the last crew weeks my short term memory has gotten bad again. I wanted to ask, what adjustments can I make to the diet to help with this.
As of right now I’m eating meat like ground beef, cheese. Eggs for breakfast, I do drink some black coffee when I’m tired and I add only 1 teaspoon of Truvia. I eat pork shoulder and pork chops. Everyone that I follow on carnivore eats ribeye but I can’t afford that.
Thank you for any support you can give, carnivores say that we need to join a Comunity and this is the only one that I could find that’s free. Sometimes you need a Comunity to ask questions and meet other carnivores without paying for fiends and support so I really appreciate this page.
Thank you
Flackowitz

Sheila reacted to Scott F. in Electrolyte JittersMaybe, maybe not. I don't think it is a bad idea to add some of the electrolytes back, especially if you are sweating and exerting energy. Keeping hydration and electrolytes correct is as essential as it gets.
I get the 'ansy', maybe could be described as 'jittery', feelings when my sugar drops into the 80's. If stays in the 80's/90's during the day I don't have any issues, but if gets to the 80's, especially in the mornings, I have a feeling similar to what you describe.
Stay on top of it and maybe it is nothing more than some healing and some adjusting.

Sheila got a reaction from Copper in Electrolyte JittersSo woke up this morning feeling quite jittery…. don’t know how else to describe it… had electrolytes last night.. plenty of potassium, sodium, some calcium and 200mg magnesium… had the same in the morning.. did eat quite a bit of protein yesterday. Still new to this and learning my lyte intake needs! Maybe needed more mag? Just had a dash of redman salt in a glass with more mag.. drinking water.. feeling better… thoughts?

Sheila reacted to Scott F. in What Did You Eat Today?Yesterday was leftover a left over T-Bone and eggs, four scrambled.
OMAD and the satiety of red meat can be crazy at times. I walked yesterday morning just shy of 3.5 miles with some pushups along the way.
I showered and went to the shop working on two old truck projects (needed them like I needed another hole in my head). I worked pretty much all day between the two and then came in around 6PM. I logged on to the internet, let the TV play and looked for more parts for my two trucks.
At bedtime around 9PM eating had not crossed my mind since earlier that morning. It is 4AM, on the way to the gym and the morning walk, and not the least bit hungry.
20-ish some hours without eating and I'm not hungry, nor have the wheels fell off.
Crazy.

Sheila reacted to Bob in Issues/concerns coming up with Carnivore dietDid you have any organ damage prior to starting the carnivore diet?
There is nothing about the diet that would damage an organ, especially in an average healthy individual.
I was, and still am, stage 4 CKD since at least 2019. I've never had kidney pain. Been carnivore for 2+ years now. Before I went full carnivore I started a plant-heavy keto and subsequently thought I broke my big toe - but in hindsight I think it was my first and only ever gout flareup. I only bring this up since you mentioned pain in the extremities.
But your body literally requires fat and protein, and literally has absolutely zero requirement for carbohydrate. Any quirkiness is usually going to be related to adaptation symptoms, withdrawal, oxylate dumping/detoxing, and ought to be temporary.

Sheila reacted to Scott F. in Issues/concerns coming up with Carnivore dietLMNT is a good product. )Personally I could not find one that I liked the taste). On youtube there are several videos on how to make your own. Much cheaper.
Bob is spot on with his advice.
I made the hydration and electrolytes when I first got started. I went from electrolyte in my water, to using the mixture as 'my table salt' and now I use salt every so often. It took 14+ months to work thru all that and I have read where some get there sooner than others.
The best thing is that you are listening to your body. Most of time the body will tell/show you most everything we need to know.
Congrats on two months/good luck as you continue.
Welcome.

Sheila reacted to BillyGoat in Issues/concerns coming up with Carnivore dietThank you for the quick reply. I will take advantage of the LMNT. I definitely want to get to the point where I am not using it, but seeing that it may take a lot longer than I was hoping for, I am not opposed to that.

Sheila reacted to Bob in Issues/concerns coming up with Carnivore dietThis is indeed going to be difficult, which is why an entire electrolyte industry has popped up in conjunction with the surge in popularity of ketogenic, including carnivore, diets. To get your recommended RDA of say, magnesium, you would have to pound down 3+ lbs of beef daily. Very few people do that. I know Shawn Baker, Anthony Chaffee, our resident @Meathead can pull it off.
The need for electrolytes seems to happen at the beginning of when you cut the carboHYDRATEs. You spill electrolytes along with all the water. This also contributes to the cotton mouth. Your likely someone dehydrated. This need goes on for up to a year, but many peoples dependence on electrolytes wanes the longer they live this lifestyle. Many veteran carnivores boast about not even using salt. I personally couldn't imagine that.
Back in the day, you could get all these minerals from water because we drank from springs. Today, water is processed and every impurity is filtered out and removed, and many of the minerals get removed along with it. If we lived a long time ago, we probably could eat this way without electrolyte supplementation just from drinking springwater.
I would try taking advantage of that LMNT and see if it helps. Start with one at night. Maybe add one more in the morning. You shouldn't need more than that.
With that aside....
I've noticed this too. Dr. Berry would say that many people's hearts start beating stronger, which is why you notice it more than before. This could be.
On the other hand, it could be too low or too high in certain electrolytes. In your case, likely the former, in harmony with your hypothesis.

Sheila reacted to BillyGoat in Issues/concerns coming up with Carnivore dietHello everyone,
Just want to start off by saying sorry for the long post, but this issue that came up is concerning me.
I am relatively new to the carnivore diet, maybe close to 2 months in, and when I initially started with the first month the diet was working well. Inflammation in some of my joints were reduced, concentrating was easier digestion seems smoother, and energy was up. Now that I am in the later part of the 2nd month, it seems that some negative things are popping up that I didn't have before.
My diet since doing carnivore consists of fatty beef, chicken occasionally, eggs, bacon, salmon, beef liver, and fatty pork. I mainly focus on beef and eggs but include the other foods to try to maintain the electrolytes. I do also want to note that the first month, though, I didn't eat beef liver or salmon. I use Pink Himalayan Salt and Kerry Gold Butter on the vast majority of food and I always pour the meat grease onto the food after it is cooked from the air fryer. Finally, I only drink water. No caffeine in the diet.
Some of the issues that I am having now are:
1) My legs, especially the calf area, will feel kind of sore, but not actually be sore. As in there is a feeling of slight soreness, but if you touch the calves no additional pain occurs. I have not had any leg cramps, though I feel that is coming soon. In addition, when I walk up just one flight of stairs, pain in my legs and quads seems to be very, very noticeable.
2) I always have this sort of fluttering feeling in my heart. It doesn't seem like my heart is beating any faster. It might beat louder sometimes, but the majority of the time I think it is just fluttering. It doesn't seem like it is skipping any beats neither.
3) Inflammation seems to have increased. It is not as bad as before I started the diet, and there are still times when it is really reduced, but it doesn't seem to stay consistently reduced.
4) Dizziness is not really prevalent, but sometimes it feels like when I am in certain light too long (mainly at work) slight dizziness does occur. In addition, when I get up from sitting too long, I do get slightly dizzy.
5) When I go to bed, my mouth starts getting dry. When this first started, I would wake up with very bad case of cotton mouth. Now, it seems like within a few minutes of laying down, the dryness starts. I also wake up at least once a night, though, that is something that was happening prior to carnivore, but I think it is happening now due to the dry mouth.
All of this I believe should be a result of an electrolyte imbalance, at least from what I have read, but I am having a hard time trying to counter this. I would prefer not to take supplements since I am trying to use the diet and diet alone to get all my nutrients in. I do have a LMNT (no flavor) on hand in case emergencies happen, but would prefer to figure this out through eating, no supplementation. I added the beef liver and salmon to help balance the electrolytes (eating each about twice per week), but I really don't see any glaring differences. I am not eating liver or salmon daily due to not having a high fat content, especially the liver (which I actually think the liver is making it hard to go number 2, though I am not constipated). Finally, I am starting to put the Pink Salt in water when I wake up and maybe an hour before I go to bed. Not sure, but I think this is preventing the cotton mouth from going full force.
Any additional food suggestions that you can give to try to counter act what I think is an electrolyte imbalance? Is supplementation the only thing that can work?
Also, (not related to the topic) I am very curious if it was possible to find someone near where I live who is more of a veteran in doing the carnivore diet to show me the ropes. I have been doing this on my own, but I don't think I will be able to figure everything out on my own, so it would be nice if there was some sort of website or something along those lines where I can find somewhere near me that can guide me better with this diet and make it more personal.
Thank you in advanced and sorry again for the long post.

To answer your question up front, no I have not tried using salt pork, but have only been doing carnivore for a few months. You do sound a lot like me though. One of the things I wanted to avoid doing was taking supplements for electrolytes. I want to get to the point where I am only using food to get all my nutrients and preferably 100% carnivore. Unfortunately, I am using non-flavor LMNT once before I go to bed (though I did start off with one in the morning, too). I was getting a pretty bad case of cotton mouth after waking up the next morning. Using the LMNT at night has greatly reduced the cotton mouth for me. I also would get heart palpitations at night, but the LMNT has helped with getting rid of that.
My calves/legs still burn a bit more than they should when walking up a few flights of stairs and I am not overweight or elderly, so I think my electrolyte balance is still off. When it comes to electrolyte balance what I have heard in my short time doing this is making your own electrolytes mixes. That does seem to be the most popular. You also might want to try some food that has a bit more magnesium in it, i.e. beef liver. Though the downside to the beef liver is that it is much higher in protein than fat. An alternate to Beef Liver is ground beef that also has liver and heart in it. Finally, though I haven't tried this myself, if you can make your own bone broth that might help a bit with balancing the electrolytes.

Mostly for other reasons. I have an autoimmune disease called Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder which is basically the same as MS, just with different treatments.
The fasts help reset the autoimmune system. it switches you into autophagy which helps clean the body of older cells, it gets you into ketosis where the glucose has been depleted and the body burns fats/ketones. From the human growth hormone production goes up by four or five times the normal amounts and then stem cells increase which can help heal.
I find huge amounts of energy the second/third day into the fast and that energy lasts til a day or two afterwards. I try to fast three days one month and then a 4-5 day fast the following month.
I am no expert but I think the best connection/benefit with carnivore is that I am already fat adapted. My glucose levels are relatively low so I get into ketosis a little quicker and the ketone levels start increasing early on. Again, not an expert by any means, but I think the carnivore community gets to the benefits of fasting quicker so the first 12-16 hours the body does not have to deplete glycogen as the glucose/sugar levels are not what they would be for someone who eats sugars/carbs as a regular part of their diet.
Since carnivore (May of '24) I stopped all medicines for pain and inflammation. No more prednisone and Neurontin. My bloodwork suggests this will be my last six hour infusion. Carnivore has did me wonders and fasting give the health change a boost/kick in the pants. LOL

I'm a big fan of slated pork as well as fatback and such. I also salt the other foods I eat as well.
I missed on the electrolytes early on, simply knowing better, but not doing better. I tried some salt/electrolyte additives but couldn't find one that tasted good enough to consistently buy. I then started to make my own electrolyte mixes at home with some really cheap salts/potassium from the grocery store. From there adding them to water no longer tasted all that good so I used my electrolyte mix as a "table salt" of sorts.
If I know I'm going to be outside in the hot working I will add some extra salt, most of the time the day before, but at least that morning. On average all I am getting is what I am adding or from one of the salted pork selections.
90% is thru food, either salted or me salting it.
That drops a bit when I do my 4 or 5 day water fasts. I take salt under the tongue followed by water.

Sheila reacted to Scott F. in Charlie KirkI try to live right and maybe the furthest down the rabbit hole I go to is the punishments for senseless crimes. I pretty much lose my membership to the human race with my views.
I would pass a law today that said the platform in which Charlie Kirk will remain in place. The only thing that can be done with that platform is to make sure the overhead structure will hold at least 250lbs of static weight.
When the culprit looked down as he swung, as his last breath is drawn, he can look down and the last sight he would see would be the blood he spilled.
Just not for Charlie Kirk but there are literally thousands of crimes in our country that I would plug into the above ceremony.
This man was killed for exercising his right to free speech. I have watched no telling how many of his videos and probably agree with him the majority of the time. If someone does not believe in homosexuality does not make them a homophobe. If I choose not to acknowledge someone as a pronoun, or them/they, it does not make me a bad person. I believe that person has every right to pursue life in route they choose. I spent six years in the military along side, both before and after, millions of men and women that has afforded us the rights we cherish. I don't believe I have the right to vote to tell other people how to live, even if I don't believe in their particular point of view. We should be able to get along.
Thoughts and prayers to Charlie Kirk's wife and two small children. Hopefully they wind up in a better world than their father left.

Anyway, it looks like they may have caught his killer....
