  1. I switched to half-caf. It's a nice middle ground. Gotta have a vice.
  2. And tea is very high in oxalates.
  3. Don't worry about it. First of all. The more you think about it, the more likely one is to make rationalizations on why not? The consequences are this: your actions. Falling off the wagon and getting up is what matters here. Do NOT punish yourself. Just learn the lesson. Now you know how easy it is to sneak in garbage foods. It's a valuable lesson if anything. Your body is tricking you with cravings counting on impulse decisions to take over. Next time you have a craving, grab the food, leave the kitchen and wait 5 minutes. Then go back in the kitchen and ask yourself why you grab the crap food to begin with. In those 5 minutes you have a conversation with yourself. Know WHY you eat. Move on without over thinking it. Outsmart to impulses. Be your own drill instructor if you must, but do not look back, onwards.
  4. I eat whatever bacon I find palatable enough, and monetary responsible enough. I may eat bacon three times a week.
  5. You sir, have just won a chicken dinner. Absolutely pointless to worry about numbers that early.
  6. We're running on diesel now friend. lol
  7. I'd say look for another job or quit carnivore. LDL is likely to rise when you're in ketosis and losing fat.
  8. I believe it. Grease the palms of the FDA and you can make dreams come true. Skittles anyone? Anyone?
  9. Welcome. I too had a garden. If one is to give carnivore a chance, at least give it 90 days. It may take that long to get fat adapted and see most of the benefits. I loved my food too, and thought how ridiculous that sounded. We are programmed to love food thinking somehow we are a "foodie" a life enjoyer sipping wine at the French riviera.... we're addicted to sugar, period. With such a paradigm shift, yes, then one can still decide to go Paleo, or Keto, or any variation you like. But first give it the time it deserves, and allow your view on what food really is (hint, it's fuel, that's it), and make a decision from there. Most likely, much of the pain -the thing we are willing to put us through for the "love" of food- may have subsided and give you an entirely new perspective on diet, etc.
  10. Avoid the doctor that only talks about LDL, he is trying to sell you something. LDL is a poor marker for heart disease, let's let the myth die right here.
  11. It's all been answered here. Welcome to the club. The carnivore diet needs at least 90 days before you consider another solution. You're breast feeding, I'd say consider taking an iodine supplement. Skin issues? Eat the skin of meat products, bone broth, etc. Definitely take potassium and magnesium on a daily basis. I do this still. Want something sweet? There are keto options, but you'll find even dark chocolate is going to taste very sweet. The taste buds will reset and you'll be happy with half a cookie without going out of ketosis. Good luck.
  12. No, sugar is for sure, one of the top addictions that cripples us, along with the drugs and all. It's as devastating as any other addiction, but the devastation happens within us. Our kidneys and other organs are slowly waning making us ill. I only drink water, and at one point in my life, I thought I could never utter those words. If you do not drink only water, you're still addicted. Hot take, I know.
  13. Welcome to carnivore, and carnivore talk. You'll find support, encouragement, advice and knowledge here. I have learned a lot here. We all just try to learn the most we can while being on the same path towards health and happiness. I am 10 months in, and having always been a disciplined eater, having tried numerous ways towards improvements, THIS is the "diet" that has truly astounded me. I did not have any weight to lose, but I do "suffer" from AS. And after a lifetime of trying things out, from sauna, to dairy free, no gluten, cold water therapy, Tai Chi, jogging, meditation, etc. THIS "Diet" has impressed me the most of all. Inflammation is way down, working out is no longer painful. I am glad you joined us, have a seat, have a coffee, and enjoy the ride.
  14. I have never heard fo the man, but that video did come across my YT feed.
  15. From my understanding -and I am not an expert but we're learning together here- those are the nutrients we're most likely to miss out on. I'm saying that, since moving to carnivore, myself, I have stayed away from any complexes, and have taken supplements separately. No more multi-vitamins, etc. Number one, I do not we believe we absorb a whole lot of those nutrients, and two, we get most of them by eating ruminant animals.
  16. Rather than a B complex I'd focus on B7 (Biotin) and B9 (Folate). There's my advice you did not ask for hehe.
  17. Good point about mega dosing. Baby steps, especially vitamin D levels may swing depending on the season, perfectly normal and ancestrally appropriate.
  18. I also have an auto-immune condition, AS. I do drink coffee (with stevia and butter/or chocolate LMNT for electrolytes). When it comes to coffee I am more concerned with acidity levels and of course the amount of caffeine. I've switched since to half caf, and add an occasional heavy cream to reduce acidity. Other than that, I don't worry about it. I take Fish Oil, Magnesium, Potassium, D3, K2 (3 times a week), and 300MCG iodine, and an occasional vitamin C. No B vitamins as we get those a plenty on the meat. No vitamin A as we get those plenty, in fact, do NOT consume too much organ meats or we face vitamin A toxicity. SO be careful with A and B.
  19. The alcohol has got to go for a while my good sir. That amount is like taking tons of medication, and in fact it IS a medication at this point. That is the cold heart truth of it. Happy belated birthday and good luck on your journey.
  20. Health and age is taken for granted by most of us. That is for sure. I had a crippling condition since I was 17, and though this has been torturous at times, it always helped me appreciate what I had. I was always aware of my health and have been working on it once I discovered the doctors were not there to help me.
  21. I'd say beef AND venison for me, and that is an occasional splurge. But I won't find myself being hyper-focused on "grass fed" vs "grain fed". I actually enjoy pork a lot as well.
  22. Good to hear, and yes, running/jogging is an amazing tool, for the heart and for the mind. You'd want to consider the volume and extent of that activity. Same as weight lifting, it is very individual, it's also age related. After 40 we need recovery, period. But we'll always need those stimuli that make muscle grow, strengthen our bones and correct our posture, that is a universal need for optimal health. A brisk walk is a perfect example what you can do in the mean time. By the way, I haven't had schnitzel in a long time... thanks for the unintended suggestion.
  23. I would leave cardio off the table for a while. It is an endurance activity, takes more time, and takes more fuel. I'd focus on weight lifting, your body will get signals to metabolize better, to build muscle. The importance of cardio is often over stated. Yes, cardio is important, about an hour and a half per week according to the heart association. I always get my workouts done because I keep it simple. No more than half an hour, period. No more is needed. Hours on the thread mill is not only counter productive (putting stress on your body), it's also useless. A 20 minutes walk 4 times or so per week and that is enough for heart health, etc. This coming from a former runner. Imo, the most important exercise is lift heavy and slow, 3 or 4 exercises per workout, about 30 minutes. THAT is the workout you can maintain. 3 times or 4 times a week. NOT everyday. Again, working out everyday is NOT beneficial for muscle growth, nor is it sustainable, unless you're a gym bro/rat. You do more and it quickly becomes too much. And eating right, and the gym.... exercise is only secondary, our bodies build when resting, feeding, sleeping. THAT is where we gain muscle, not in the gym. We lose weight in the kitchen NOT in the gym. Cardio is horrible for weight loss, even though this is not an issue for us. I am 49 years old with a six pack. Something I'd never thought I'd be flexing about on a forum to strangers lol. What I am saying is, I am amazed about my physical improvement, through carnivore lifestyle and the continuation of a good solid weight lifting routine. Leave the cardio when you walk the dog.
  24. Things will change as you adjust. I am also 12% lean at 135 lbs. which is about 61kg. From 65kg since I started 10 months ago. I do not feel weak at all and actually see a lot of muscle definition, and feel stronger when lifting weights. It took some time to adjust. It depends on when you started. In the beginning I lost some strength and endurance, but now I am back to my normal progression.
  25. Coffee with butter and stevia, or coffee with heavy cream, worked for me. Remember, a carnivore diet still has a percentage of plant based elements in it. 10% of plant based food does not make you NOT a carnivore. This is a misconception. Unless of course, the diet is used as an elimination diet. Which it still is since you eliminate seed oils, processed food, high fructose (a killer I might add), and grains and nuts. I switched to half caf and I like the change. But coffee for me is a joy. So I'll have that one vice.
