I’ve never used salt on my foods until this carnivore diet. Because they say you have to take salt with carnivore but now I’m putting a good 2 teaspoons per day maybe less. and the food all tastes bland without the salt are you sure eating all this salt is necessary? The sea salt is alternating my normal taste buds. Everything tastes blah with out salt if you really think about it from an ancestral perspective before grocery stores where is a guy going to get Redmon sea salt without a grocery store or some salt mine nearby? are you sure eating all this salt is normal?

I’ve made tons of mistakes with the carnivorous diet cheese (eating the whole package) alcohol (drink until passing out) pot (gives major munchies) cheat days (that last for 3 days) -

I’ve dipped dried bacon into soft butter like as if it was a potato chip dipping into sour cream and the bacon is actually better than chips -
I’ve done planned cheat days of taco bowls (no shells just salad) with beef and taco seasoning, shredded cheese, lettuce tomato raw onion and hot sauce definitely not carnivore but it felt like a small victory for me with Type 1 Diabetes (I can’t do taco shells or tortillas) but I guess my point is that if you have a cheat day it helps to plan in advance because things can get hairy if you decide to just show up at the grocery store and get creative right then and there cause I’ve done that too and came home with 2 bags of caramel corn and just really over did it

I used to have a food dehydrator with a heat element. It made BOMB bacon. Just put raw bacon in the trays and after a few hours presto. Then I would store it in a sealed container I also did it with raw beef liver and stored that like beef jerky too but it made the whole house stink like smoked bacon and meats. It would have to be done outdoors

Yeah it says “real smoke” so I guess lots of sausages use chemicals to flavor it like smoke it sucks that all the food is laden with chemicals

Avoiding carb relapse
Idunno replied to Idunno's topic in Carnivore, Ketovore, Keto, & Low-Carb Support
Exactly. But there is zero chance I ever would have gotten this far in my dietary habits if I was not T1D. Before I became T1D I used to eat anything I wished and I was already a health nerd before my diagnosis so I must admit T1D is a lot to handle and I could exercise as much as needed -
Wow so you eat that cold? Right out of the packet? Shouldn’t that be cooked first?

Avoiding carb relapse

That’s what the restaurants are doing: they sell addictive food. Lots of carbs and lots of hidden ingredients to make it more addictive than the restaurants next door as a Type 1 Diabetic I am more tuned in with what they are doing than most people. And I live in a food mecca full of restaurants, bars and cafes. they are all basically Carbohydrate dealers but you won’t see the full picture as a non diabetic because one French fry won’t mess you up and you are not connected to a blood glucose monitor that clearly displays the spikes in blood sugar after eating this kind of stuff but it doesn’t mean these restaurants are not basically drug dealers of carbohydrate rich and addictive foods -

The past month or so has been cold weather so I have been unable to be outside exercising. Even if I jump rope or jog for 5 minutes each day it makes a big difference on blood glucose levels — but I am confused about how you mention your aim is gluconeogensis whereas everyone else here says their goal is Ketosis. I think these are separate states? I’ve also done some water fastening. I did 1 day fasts then 3 days then one time I made it to 7 days of water and salt only. What I experienced was literally normalized blood sugars hovering around 86-90 for about 4/7 of the days. But water fasting required adjustments to my long lasting So on day 1 I’d take 18 units day 2 I’d take 16 units day 3 I’d take 13 units day 4 I’d only need 11 units and maybe an additional 1 unit if my blood glucose was higher than normalized areas It took me a few tries to make it to 7 days because if I took even 1/2 too many units of insulin my blood sugar would be below 85 so I would need to take a glucose tab and that would end the fasting period but they say in Chinese medical theory that 7 days in an important time marker for fasting. By 7 days significant restoration occurs, and for a Type 1 Diabetic it is highly important to get that extra restoration because we are always battling with health but the 7 day fast reduced my long acting requirement literally in half. Plus I did not need to divide doses of long lasting (morning and night shots). The water fasting make a huge difference and I think most Type 1’s do not fast that long as 7 days. It’s an important experiment that is not discussed because most people flip their lids about water fasting like it’s the hugest danger -

ive applied a thin layer of beef tallow to the skin and then washed it off in the shower. I think it was a good treatment, but tallow is smelly. I’ve tried tallow on my scalp too and although it made my hair more luxurious I think it can clog pores in the scalp but I use a mix and match of coconut oil and olive oil, sometimes tea tree oil in the hair then washed out in the shower I only use Dr Bronners soap with no scent for wounds I use hydrogen peroxide. I also have isopropyl alcohol for certain things skin brush boars hair brush metal comb plastic comb emery boards for hands and feet to remove dead skin MCT coconut oil is my main moisturizer for skin and hair but I’ve found a high quality olive oil can be better, or a mix of coconut and olive oil is even better for cleaning the pores in my scalp I use a combo of lemon juice and Dead Sea salt another combo is apple cider vinegar and baking soda. It foams up. But ACV is smelly and takes multiple washes to remove the scent from hair Occasionally I use Redmond sea salt on the skin and scalp Occasionally borax is a good exploitative for the scalp and whole body head to toe in the shower I detail my hands and feet and trim my nails regularly, after hot showers, and use emery board to clean dead skin off the feet and hands -
The problem i find is they are made with vegetable oils and probably worse than that. also i do not see pork rinds sold at my grocery stores, I only see them at a Chinatown grocery which to be honest a lot of their products contain bad additives i need a better source i saw someone here mention the brand Mac’s pork rinds. But at their website they do not mention what oils are used in the ingredients how can I find the most all natural pork rinds?

Carnivore for type 1 diabetics

Another thing I’ve noticed is when I eat carnivore for several days my blood sugar profile smooths out. It will go from generally 145 average down to a more normalized state of about 100 average. Noticeably more balanced and in range but once it stabilizes like that it also triggers carb cravings. And booze cravings. Another thing I notice when it stabilizes I get fatigued and get much better rest and sleep is deepened. I think during this phase when I sleep it releases a lot of inflammation or something, I’m unsure what is happening. But eventually I get carb cravings and it only takes 1 meal (like double cheeseburgers and Cajun fries as an example) when I eat that (or another example is a whole pizza) when I eat that my blood sugar is straight up wrecked for a week afterwards. so there is a cycle: Pig out on pizza and burgers eat no carbs for a week my blood sugar begins to stabilize my sleep gets really heavy I get bad carb cravings I pig out on burgers and fries again then drink booze to calm my nerves back to no carb diet for a week and this cycle keeps repeating. -
This is why you need to be careful of cheese

Last night I did some grocery shopping which is surprisely simple as a Carnivore. beef butter bacon eggs but then the monkey came out for a little visit. So in the store I picked up a thingy of sharp cheddar, and I knew after reading an article here, sharp cheddar is one of the more addictive. So instead of getting sharp cheddar I selected soft cheese, St Albans. I ate the whole thing that night. Thus, to summarize the lessons learned: I simply cannot moderate cheese intake on my own. It has to be completely removed from my diet -

I use a CGM on my arm and multiple daily injections of a long lasting and short lasting. I’ve never used a pump because I don’t want any more devices sticking on me. Tho everyone says the pump helps with A1C. my A1C has been between 6.5-7.0 for several years and it’s hard to make a dent in that because I often relapse with carbs and with booze too. But I’m trying to push through with no cheat days. The book I mostly follow is Dr Bernstein. He has a message board forum but I was banned, I forget why. I was also banned from a Reddit forum for carnivores, I dunno why, maybe I was too truthful. A couple times I met in person with a T1D group and I got good vibes but also super-duper bad vibes from some people there. So I was turned off by their in person group of T1D’s. From what I gathered though, they all wore pumps and they were eating very-high carb meals together like it was no biggie, as if very-high carb diets were no problem as long as the pump is doing its job. So I literally do not know any other T1D’s in real life and I am sociable too. One guy I know has T2D which is a much different monster, and any time I talk with him about low carb diets he has no interest in it and doesn’t want to change anything even though he has health problems from T2D. -

Yeah I am new here too and have T1D. I was diagnosed T1D several years ago (middle aged adult) so I used to be a “normie” who could just eat whatever I pleased! lol My A1C is at 7.0% and my goal is 5.5% Another goal is to get in shape and have a fit body. I need to lose about 25 pounds of fat and get my body toned up and more attractive. It has taken me a TON of research trying to learn how to manage T1D. These first several years I could not figure out how to do strenuous exercise without getting low blood glucose. So although I’ve been active I always avoided breaking a sweat so it was rarely high intensity enough that my body needs. So I went to a running group. Before the exercise of running around the track I ate like 20 rolls of Smarties trying to keep up with the low blood sugar. Had a Snickers bar and some Reese’s peanut butter cups and I was still going low, as if no amount of sugar would make up for the exercise. And it was light jogging with walking half the time. I’d really like to learn how to extend my exercise sessions and not be on a roller coaster ride with blood sugars. T1D is super isolating. I’ve had T1D for years now and still do not know any T1D in my personal life. I met a diabetes group from online and it seemed too dysfunctional of a group. Like others here I was also banned from a Reddit forum for carnivores. They are ban happy over there. That was like a year ago and now I found this forum. -

Trouble Losing Weight?

I’m surprised more people don’t mention having difficulty with carb cravings and then losing it by eating two double cheeseburgers and fries like I’ve been doing also the video mentions alcohol consumption and that is part of my diet - Overconsumption of straight booze and my weight is not shredding off yet -

No kidding right. Online dating is extremely bad on mental health. I had to delete my account this morning because it triggers alcoholism lol Men that skipped the online dating app era won in the game of dating. The apps poisoned relationships women are addicted to the unbelievable amount of endless attention they receive from online dating and sugar daddy apps they do that on the lowdown to afford more expensive lifestyles when you meet a woman from online dating she’s likely been out with hundreds of men if not thousands. They will serial date guys for breakfast lunch dinner drinks and anything else -

Try being a single guy with dating nowadays. the main hobby single women have is going to the new restaurants and being “a foodie”. Especially when the restaurant foods are overpriced and they use seed oils and who knows what else women have to go out to the new restaurants to get selfies to show everyone online how they went to a restaurant lol Every woman’s dating profile says “I’m a foodie” “I like tacos” -
