musicalgym reacted to Bob in Managing the electrolytes? Many capsules of any kind are made from vegetable cellulose. The rice hull extract is probably acting as a binding agent to ensure the proper distribution of active ingredients (because they make this stuff in giant batches and then have to load each capsule). I'm not sure what the flaxseed oil is for. But, we're talking trivial amounts that yes, I don't think it worth worrying over for 99.99% of people.
Some capsules can be made of gelatin, which is an animal product.

musicalgym reacted to Bob in Managing the electrolytes?Sounds like good practice. Your getting the big 3, sodium, potassium, and magnesium.
I don't take potassium because one of my kidney/BP medications is Losartan Potassium, so my potassium always runs high. But I do salt to taste and I take this magnesium complex at bedtime...

musicalgym got a reaction from Bob in Managing the electrolytes?I haven't made the homemade electrolyte mixture yet. I need to do further research on which form of magnesium to use. Citrate, sulfate, and maleate have been suggested so far.
Currently, I just use a little salt and No Salt (potassium chloride) in water, plus I take magnesium glycinate in a capsule every night.

Yes, definitely quit the instant coffee. Instant coffee has more oxolates than regular coffee, also contains more caffeine.
Stick with regular coffee if you must. Myself, I do half caf. Seems to hit the spot just right. Still trying to get to decaf, but that for now is a dirty word in my house.

musicalgym got a reaction from Orweller in Managing the electrolytes?I found this recipe for electrolytes. It has magnesium citrate instead of magnesium sulfate. Was the suggestion for magnesium sulfate a mistake?
I think I'll order the magnesium citrate since I had difficulty finding a magnesium sulfate that I thought would be appropriate. I already take magnesium glycinate at night.
I won't be using sugar. Not sure about citric acid?
I didn't see how much water to use. A gallon?
Salt: 1 teaspoon (regular table salt or sea salt will do the trick)
Potassium chloride: 1/2 teaspoon (you can find this at some health food stores or online)
Magnesium citrate powder: 1/4 teaspoon (again, health food stores or online retailers should carry this)
Sugar or a sugar substitute: 2 tablespoons (this helps with flavor and energy, but it's optional)
Citric acid: 1/2 teaspoon (for a little tanginess)

musicalgym reacted to Bob in Managing the electrolytes?I think that is fine for most people. The squeeze of lemon will have some trace sugar (fructose) but if that's all your getting I wouldn't sweat it. This depends on you and your goals as well as personal physiology. If you are just trying to lose weight, it's gonna be fine. If you have severe auto-immune conditions you are trying to reverse, you might want to tighten things up and be a strict carnivore for a while.
The same applies to electrolyte products that have some trace "natural flavors" or small amounts of artificial sweetener. Most people will be just fine and shouldn't fear these things. But then there are a small minority of others who even react to these things.
For the record, you can take your electrolytes in pill form. I take a magnesium supplement, and salt my food to taste with every meal, and I do just fine.

For a true carnivore diet, yes, they all need to go.
But for other variations of a carnivore-centric diet, it depends....
As long as you keep your actual carb count under 10g per day on average, then you could use all those things.
Anything that comes from a plant, lol. Particularly, roots, stems, leaves, and seeds will contain the most plant toxins, which may or may not impact you in small quantities, depending on your personal physiology.

musicalgym got a reaction from Bob in Are these compatible with the carnivore diet? Ketovore diet? That makes sense.🙂
Food Bank hasn't responded to my offer, so maybe they don't want anything on my meager list.😆

musicalgym got a reaction from Bob in Are these compatible with the carnivore diet? Ketovore diet?(Was unable to edit post above.)
I offered to donate these to the food bank: (awaiting reply as to which items they will accept)

musicalgym got a reaction from Bob in Are these compatible with the carnivore diet? Ketovore diet?Found a food bank near my house for the almond milk.

musicalgym got a reaction from Bob in Are these compatible with the carnivore diet? Ketovore diet?Flax seed and chia seeds are safe for wild birds, so I can get rid of those that way.
Not sure how to get rid of about 46 cartons of almond milk unless I throw it away.
Maybe donate.

musicalgym reacted to Geezy in Cravings. That depends on the individual. For most people no. The amount of sugar used in the cure is obviously small enough that it doesn’t need to be reported in the total carb count. If you can find sugar free then that’s great but I most of the carnivore doctors and influencers who eat bacon are eating the same thing you are.
Now if you react to it in any way then it may be a problem for you.
-
musicalgym reacted to Geezy in Freaked outIt’s your choice whether or not you take the drugs.
My cardiologist loved what I did with carnivore. I hope yours will too.
I stopped taking a statin when I learned that they don’t do anything other than line the pockets of Big Pharma.
I stopped the blood thinner (aspirin) when I learned it damages kidneys.
My cardiologist took me off of the metoprolol when my blood pressure came down to normal levels naturally due to carnivore. He then took me off of my last heart medication a year later.

musicalgym reacted to Terry in Freaked outOil of bergamot is used to flavor Earl Grey tea. It supposedly helps autophagy during a fast also. I have a bottle of true oil of bergamot and I add that to my herbal teas while fasting.
As far as statins go, you are the final decision in your own health care. Do your own research and if you don't agree with your doctor then you have the final say.

musicalgym reacted to Bob in Cravings.Learn to make brown butter bites. You will either love me... or hate me because they are addictive, lol.
-
musicalgym reacted to Bob in Freaked outI've heard Dr. Berry say the same thing. He says agreeing to take a low dose rosuvastatin (5mg) can be a decent compromise between you and your doctor.
As far as natural alternatives, I've been reading up on Citrus Bergamot. Supposedly it's effective for LDL and trigs. I'm interested in the trigs portion of that. I could care less about my LDL.

musicalgym reacted to The S. in Cravings.I do have the same problem as you with not wanting to eat meat anymore, which causes carb cravings. I now put tiny little chunks of butter in the freezer and eat one with salt when the cravings hit. (Excess butter does cause weight gain though). I just discovered last week that when I crave fruit it's because I'm thirsty. I drink some water and it goes away (most of the time). Fasting helps too if it doesn't make you crave carbs. Exercise helps too by making you hungry without you having to fast. One month is too soon for cravings to go away. For me the firtst time I did this, it took about 6 months and even then I still had carbmares (nightmares about eating carbs, lol).
Here's a great article on recognizing hunger on carnivore:
https://www.zerocarbhealth.com/recognizing-hunger-on-a-zero-carb-carnivore-diet/
About the ketones:
I did a strict lion diet for 2 years. In year two, I went for a general check-up with a blood test and urine test and all that, and my ketones were non existent. I heard a veteran carnivore (not sure who) say it's possible that the ketones don't show up anymore because your body becomes very efficient at using ketones and not much of it is actually dispensed as waste through your urine for tests to show. That made sense to me at the time because, in addition to being a very strict carnivore, I had fasted for 24 hours for that test so not having any ketones would have meant that I had absolutely no metabolism going on (only happens in dead people) given that I must have had very little glycogen stored and had to have been burning some fat from somewhere and therefore I would have had ketones in my body even though they didnt show on the test. I wouldn't be concerned about ketones. I don't think they matter on carnivore (they do matter on keto though, because you do eat carbs on that).
This is an excerpt from the "Zero Carb Health" blog by a friend of Kelly Hogan's and Charles Washington, who have been doing this for decades:
"Our meat eating ancestors did not have high ketones or low blood sugar, yet they were healthy and fit. If you are not eating carbohydrates you are on a ketogenic diet. Just because your ketone levels might be very low does not mean you are not in ketosis. The current trend of trying to reach high ketones and get your blood sugar low is likely sabotaging your health, not helping it. By purposely trying to achieve something your body is uncomfortable with you are working against homeostasis. The body likes homeostasis. (Homeostasis, from the Greek words for “same” and “steady,” refers to any process that living things use to actively maintain fairly stable conditions necessary for survival.) It is IMPOSSIBLE to naturally maintain high ketone numbers, especially if you are on a zero carb diet, where you don’t have carbohydrates as a macro to manipulate. You have to constantly manipulate fat/protein macros, feeding times and calories to get high ketone readings. The body does not want to be producing lots of ketones so it will adapt to your tweaks so it’s not over producing which will bring the numbers down. How can this be healthy if the body is constantly fighting to bring ketones down? There is zero science or history on humans maintaining high ketone levels in the long term."

Sorry this is so long. I hope it helps a little bit.

This list of items reminds me of my diet PC (Pre Carnivore). In the name of health, I was testing and trying every influencers idea of what they thought healthy should be. I have MS and that is my main area of concern as far as my health goes along with a laundry list of other conditions that sometimes go along with an MS life. I made the chia seed puddings and was adding flaxseed to everything, drinking vinegar water, homemade kombucha, adding Mushrooms powders, High dose biotin, Etc, Etc.......... in the end all I noticed was my wallet being drained by unnecessary items in my diet. Then I saw a Dr Berry video, totally cleaned out every kitchen cabinet and the fridge and never looked back. If spices don't bother your system then enjoy them for flavor but I wouldn't look to them for ANY health benefit. They may contain healthy bits, but the small quantities we consume will have very little to no effect on your health, IMO. I still use apple cider vinegar for my pickled eggs and unrefined coconut oil for ketones along with a few spices for flavor. Otherwise it is pretty much just meat (mostly beef). Leftover hamburgers and a few hard boiled eggs for today.

I have been on "Ketovore" with under ten grams of carbs per day.
Good ketosis going on, no cravings for anything including alcohol. 20+ kg lost since November. Feeling strong. High blood ketones (2.0-5.0) are good heart fuel for my failed and stented heart.
Those spices on the OP list would not bother me but I see they do no belong to a proper Carnivore.
I use no seed oils! Pure organic olive and coconut oils only. Lots of butter. My carbs come from fatty sausages, yogurt, cheese, nuts and an occasional salad. My fat is 75% or more, energy % to be clear. Salads with fatty cheese like Feta help to keep fat up,all our meat (except bacon) is lean here in Finland.

musicalgym got a reaction from Miranda in Hello, AllI'm hoping to start carnivore on my 77th birthday on the 21st, or the day after.
I'm trying to clear out most of the food from my pantry/kitchen beforehand.
Not sure whether I will start full on or ease into it.
I've been learning quite a lot lately and I'll continue that.
I'll be returning some of the unopened supplements, fiber, hemp hearts... that I won't be needing.
Glad I saw Dr. Berry's "10 supplements you don't need" list.
I've only read a few of the posts here so far. Thanks to all for sharing and offering experience, strength, and hope.

musicalgym got a reaction from Miranda in Managing the electrolytes?I had a cramp in my thigh muscle last night in bed and also a slight cramp in my upper right arm while washing the car today.
I started taking fine sea salt in my water so far.

I went through all my cookbooks and got rid of 95% of them. If they mentioned vegetables, fruit or flour then they had to go 😂. I donated them to our local library book sale.

musicalgym reacted to DominikSt in Hello everyone :)We have arrived home safely.
I would like to show you what we bought in Poland. The finest pasture-raised beef, 37 kg in total :)
All the 37 kg are not shown in this photo. It is only a "small" part of our order.

musicalgym reacted to Terry in Cravings.I will always say "Fasting , for the win!". The energy effect I get personally from multi day fasting is nothing short of amazing and the personal challenge of going as long as you can is very powerful also. Autophagy and all the other hidden good things that the body goes through are probably the best part of a long fast.
