Terry reacted to Geezy in What Did You Eat Today?Dang, that’s a good price.
I’ll be rendering down some lamb suet tomorrow.

Terry reacted to Scott F. in Any other hard-core Lions here?Agreed.
I came to carnivore with zero health expectations other than losing weight and maybe the benefits from losing weight. I went from 'having no idea' to life changing results out of the blue. Talking about a pleasant surprise.
When someone seems genuinely interested my spiel starts off with, "If you had told me this same story 12 months ago, I would be thinking you are full of it". Then lead into what it did for me in relative short order. I also direct them to the influencers and videos.
Most continue on their path and in turn, I continue on mine.

Terry reacted to Geezy in Any other hard-core Lions here?Exactly. We all experience this. I came to carnivore in desperation. I was tired of dying and was ready to start living.
It’s a hard reality when we find that others don’t share our same enthusiasm. Fortunately we have our carnivore communities of like minded people.

Terry got a reaction from Bob in Cost of Carnivore? Who's done the math?I got lucky because my wife joined me with carnivore just a few months after I started. I do most of the cooking and that surely helps with food prep. If she wants something that's "Not on the menu" that day then she makes her own thing and all is cool. How old is your child, if I may ask?

Terry got a reaction from Bob in SPAM... in a can. Not the kind in your inboxSpam Shelf Life Details:
Unopened:
Hormel states that Spam can last "indefinitely" if stored properly in a cool, dark, dry place, away from freezing temperatures, and off the floor. However, the flavor and quality may degrade after 5 years.
Opened:
Once opened, Spam should be refrigerated and consumed within 3 to 4 days for optimal quality and safety.
Now we know 😄

Terry got a reaction from Bob in SPAM... in a can. Not the kind in your inboxSpam has such a bad reputation and I do not understand why? It's just like hot dogs. So many people think they are junk foods when they are actually a very good source of nutrition and usually quite affordable.
If you can afford a better choice then definitely go that route, but in the end you won't be able to chart the difference between consuming spam/hot dogs VS ribeyes.

Terry got a reaction from Bob in SPAM... in a can. Not the kind in your inboxI consider Spam to be the "Meat of kings, that can be enjoyed by All". I eat Spam whenever I want to and really like the taste and texture. The few little traces of non meat ingredients do NOT bother me at all. Several different flavor varieties available also. Aldi sells their own house version of Spam which is pretty good also. Fried in a pan or smoked on the grill or even raw if you must, I find them all to be great. My wife is not a fan 🤣

Terry got a reaction from Bob in Carnivore provides some hasslesMy mom Worked for many years at a local diner and also had a few scary stories about food prep and that was back in the 70's when people were good and still dependable. I would NEVER trust a modern younger person to prepare my food under any circumstance. Most of them can't even cook their own food, much less somebody else's who they don't even care about. My first food service job was as a dishwasher at our local country club. We served all the elite members of our society and if they knew what they were sometimes eating, I'm not sure how that would have turned out. Most of them were liquor'd up (with a Monthly bar bill minimum) before they ate so it they probably had no concerns anyways 😂. Several times after a state health inspection I got the job of taking a putty knife and scraping the floor of the walk-in cooler. You would be surprised what you can scrape up from where your raw food is stored! Funny side story - That same kitchen had a microwave with the safety shield in the front door that was always falling out! It was placed just about testicle level and whenever they used it, I would leave the area. I said something to the food service manager and I was told to "not worry about that"

Terry got a reaction from Bob in Carnivore provides some hasslesThat is one of my main reasons along with the astronomical prices that my wife and I RARELY eat away from home any longer. I've also worked in kitchens and know what happens "behind the scenes" sometimes. I would like to be the only person handling MY food before I eat it! Some places are better than most , but they all got an issue somewhere in the chain of preparing my meal.

Terry got a reaction from Bob in I recently found a new pharmacy near meWe can't raise any "meat" where we live due to zoning and if you want chickens for eggs there is a limit of 4 and it's a yearly license of $50! I'll just stick with Wally World or Aldi for eggs.

Terry got a reaction from Bob in I recently found a new pharmacy near meYou are in Cattle country for sure.
I would assume a lot of great BBQ places also?

Terry got a reaction from Bob in I recently found a new pharmacy near meWe've been getting most of our beef from local places like Walmart or Meijer when it is on short sale discount. That is a hit or miss kind of deal but it sure beats their regular price for meat. Picked up 2 half briskets yesterday @ Meijer for $3 a pound. Those will go on the smoker Thursday morning about 5am. They had a few hot dogs and brats which I grabbed up also. No more room left in our freezer, Which is great as a carnivore 😄. Eat up Boy's and girl's!

Terry got a reaction from Geezy in Any other hard-core Lions here?I feel that - "no one really cares about their health until it's too late" and then they will try anything to resolve it. Fortunately for most carnivores it can be turned around. When I first started out, It worked so well I was telling everyone about it ands QUICKLY found that NO ONE wanted to hear it, so "screw'em" is my route I go now. It is my secret answer to life. If someone asks and I can sense that they are truly interested in changing their life then I will suggest a few influencers videos to them and see how it goes from there. It's not my job to save the world! My wife and I now like to glance at other people's shopping carts when we go food shopping just to see the poor choices being made.

Terry got a reaction from Geezy in What Did You Eat Today?Only you will know how your system will respond to an extended fast. For my system fasting has been really powerful and enlightening as to how energetic and clear-headed I become. You may respond differently, so only you will know for sure. Dr Berry posted a video a while back of a guy who ran 5 marathons in 5 days supposedly in a fasted state! I believe it! Once I was adjusted to long fasts my hunger signals just disappears after around the 12 hour mark and then I just go until "it's time to eat again". Your body will let you know for sure. For me that time has been a short as 27 hours and as long as 96 hours. I do long bike rides in a fasted state.

It is one thing to lead by example and an even better to share one's knowledge.
I try not to make much about it when I get 'corrected' on my way of thinking/eating. I provide feedback when I can but if the wall has been built I don't spend an awful lot of time trying to break down barriers.
I'm coming up on my semi-annual visit with my neurologist and our biggest conversation will be around my immunoglobulin numbers, my immune system and have I 'healed' enough to discontinue the infusions. My last bloodwork said I was really close to being 'normal'. I'm interested to see where we land.
I have been lucky with the two Neurologists I see. Both are super-supportive of my carnivore efforts. My primary is pretty much 'if it is working for you, then it is working for me' approach. If you think the people in this group are anti-statins, you should listen to his spiel. If you didn't know him or have contact with him, you would think it was an all-out scare tactic. He is that much against them due to long term neurological and brain impact.
I alternate visits between the two but my second is participating in research studies for MS at the Mayo clinic. The Mayo clinic is not onboard with the carnivore approach but the number of people in the MS community seeing positive results with carnivore is ever increasing. One of the interesting facts is that in the 50's one of the most successful treatments for MS was called the 'red meat diet'. It was basically the Lion diet before it got the catchy name. Dr. Chaffeee speaks to this in one of his carnivore-auto immune videos. My neurologist actually checks in on me and my progress in between visits. She asked if she could present my story to her colleagues even asking if another neurologist could sit in on my last appointment.
I feel like I'm in a really good place with neurology. My primary family doctor is on board with the results and not totally against carnivore, but he is not a fan of my LDL. He is not a fan of the number of eggs I eat per day/per week.
I also enjoy the board here. I am a much bigger fan of a person's personal story as I am 'study for this and study for that'. It is almost like there is a study to support whatever your persuasion is about just about any choice you make. I often chuckle at how two people from the same medical school, who received the same education/training on a 'scientific' subject can have such polar opposite opinions. And then can deliver 'scientific studies' to support whichever side of the fence they are standing. Like, 2=+2=4, regardless of what side of the fence one resides. I guess I amjust not smart like that.
I can relate better to someone's personal experience. This type forum works well for me.

Terry reacted to Geezy in Any other hard-core Lions here?I get that for sure. My cardiologists kept me going until this carnivore life could take over and reverse everything.
It’s just a crying shame that more people haven’t learned the truths that we have.
All we can do is be a good example and be ready with an answer when asked.

Terry reacted to Miranda in What Did You Eat Today?Large portions of beef give me nausea as well. It affects my sleep if I eat too late. I am having to let go of my "fasting brain". Some of the fasting people refer to old WOE as diet brain. Now I am embracing the diet that feeds my brain!

Terry reacted to Scott F. in Struggling new carnivoreI went what I thought was cold turkey. My food selections were 'cold turkey' but I was using water flavoring packets as I was not a big water drinker prior to carnivore.
In time I stopped using the water packets. I think I weaned myself into carnivore via the sugar in the packets.
I didn't have a lot of issues with withdrawals/cravings.
Muy issues were around the lack of salt/electrolytes. Once I got the salt/electrolytes in check, then adjusted the fat content up, it was a rather easy transition.
Goodluck Carnovorenewbie. Hopefully today is better than yesterday. Take small steps and celebrate those smaller steps. The little accomplishments add up to big accomplishments. Best of luck. hang in there.

Terry got a reaction from Geezy in Struggling new carnivoreI had 3 or 4 rough weeks when first starting out, but I jumped in cold turkey style. My wife went in slowly and had no issues at all. That was 4 years ago and it is so worth it in the end. Keep going, you can do it!

Terry got a reaction from Geezy in Probiotic Reuteri yogurtIf it's the original insta pot with the non adjustable yogurt setting it will probably be too warm for Reuteri. Mine runs too warm. The newer 7in1 units have an adjustable temp setting for yogurt and reports online said they work great for Reuteri and other varieties in the 100'f range.
