Bossman150 got a reaction from Geezy in One week inSo I guess I am going more a ketovore route for the first 3 weeks to a month to first kick my sugar addiction. I for sure want to do carnivore, but I want to make sure I succeed and I actually have been craving veggies more than sugar this first week and I have been giving in to them. Green beans, cabbage and mushrooms are the extent of it but I ate them a lot more then I had planned. I decided I would go ahead and do ketovore for a few weeks, as keto is more what I have done in the past and it seems like my body has no issues dropping the sugar. I feel very fortunate that I don't get the horrible withdraw symptoms a lot of people get when starting low carb diets.
I did carnivore for about 6 weeks almost a year ago and I lost a lot of weight fast and felt good, but I gave in too fast and fell off the wagon very badly. I have been eating so much sugary processed crap I am surprised I didn't have serious issues as I am a type 2 diabetic. I think what saved me is I went from 420 lbs to 240 lbs over a couple years and I was actually down to 15% body fat, probably my lowest body fat since I was 10 years old. Over those couple of years I exercised a lot (you have a lot of free time in prison) and my diabetes completely went away. This last year my A1C peaked at 7.8 which is not good, but not near as bad as it should have been for my weight and what I was consuming.
I dropped 5lbs this first week and my legs are already no longer swollen and the muscle definition has come back in my calves. Down to 317, my first goal is to get below 300 and start jogging again. I hate running with a passion, but man it felt so good when you were done with a jog and knew you actually did something.

Bossman150 reacted to Bob in One week inHey, keep doing what you are doing. A keto/ketovore approach is still part of the proper human diet spectrum. And the green beans, cabbage, and mushrooms are going to be pretty benign from a weight loss perspective. Focus on abstaining from grains and refined sugars and eat only what the earth provides, and you will be off to a great start!
If I am going to "cheat", I will "cheat" with something keto friendly. I don't even consider it cheating because I have no guilt in doing so, and no qualms about admitting it. I am on a carnivore diet most of the time.

Bossman150 reacted to Scott F. in Starting againWelcome back.
I don't think there is much of the carnivore police here. LOL
Based loosely on your account, i would imagine the beans and mushrooms 1-2 times a week is better than you are doing right now. Improvements are improvements, regardless.
Congrats on making the decision to give it another go. Best of luck.

Bossman150 reacted to Copper in Starting againWelcome back. If Im honest, the only reasons Ive managed to stick with it and not fall off is because I don't have a lot of years left and I want to be healthy enough to enjoy them and I don't ever want to feel the way I did before. I wish you all the best. You are in the right place.

Bossman150 reacted to Geezy in Starting againWelcome back.
I think you are approaching this from a good perspective. Some people need to ease into this lifestyle while others can just jump in with both feet.
I can’t moderate so I’m a jump right in kinda fellow but I completely understand those that must go a little slower. In fact I envy those that can moderate. It means they are less addictive and have more control.
You do what’s best for you and stay in touch so we know how it’s going.

Bossman150 got a reaction from Copper in Starting againWell I have been absent from these forums for about a year and its because I fell off and bad. I have gained back about 40 lbs and I am miserable enough I need to start this again. I know it will be hard but enough is enough and I am going to do it. I am going to drink water, black tea and coffee with a bit of cream. I am also allowing mushrooms and a few green beans. I know this is not really allowed in this diet but I am trying to be successful long term this time, I think I went too extreme last time and it burned me out. Having the mushrooms/green beans with my meat I think will help that and I won't do it every day, maybe 1-2 times a week. I will be heading to Sam's club this week and I am going to have them cut me some nice chuck steaks and I will grab a few ribeye steaks to have once a week as well as some hamburger and pork steak. I am looking forward to getting back to it!

Bossman150 got a reaction from Kbranford in 5 week check inAfter 5 weeks my clothes are already fitting better and in the case of my m pants a little loose. I am back to 2x shirts and I feel a ton better. As of this morning I am down 24lbs.
The only thing that is not quite right yet is my energy level. Before I started this BBB&E I was riding 50-75miles a week on my bike. In the 5 weeks since I can only manage one 16 mile ride a week and it's rough to even do that. I am a little bummed about that with fall coming up and that being my favorite time of the year to ride.
On a side note, I brought home an amazing 11 week old Golden retriever yesterday! I lost my most recent dog last February and I could not wait any longer. I wanted a lively but yet slightly lower energy dog since I have had 3 GSPs and my last one was a lab. He is very well behaved and surprisingly has had no accidents so far.
I would add a Pic if I could figure out how.

Bossman150 got a reaction from Bob in I cant do it!I don't ever want to give up my coffee. It's my only vice and I absolutely love every aspect of it. It's not a caffeine thing I just love the taste and smell.

Bossman150 got a reaction from Bob in I cant do it!I cant drink black coffee!! It's the one thing I refuse to give up. It's my one vice now and I need it. I have been trying to drink it black but it just doesn't do it for me. The last couple days I have put in just a splash of heavy cream and it is wonderful!
Sigh I really wanted to do BBB&E for 90 days but guess I will have to modify to have a teaspoon of cream 1-2 times a day.

Bossman150 got a reaction from Bob in Help Regarding My Blood SugarsI use to be a bad diabetic before I lost a lot of weight. I was diabetic for almost 20 years and the last 7 or so I was using crazy amounts of bothe fast and long acting insulin, sometimes as much as 350 units a day.
I would try lowering protein and raising fat. Use Loseit or another app to track what you eat and keep your fat to protein ratio at least 70/30. Don't eat after dinner and make sure dinner is at least 3-4 hours before bed. Metformin is made to help with dawn syndrome which it sounds like is your issue.

Bossman150 reacted to Geezy in 5 week check inYour body is probably still adapting to burning ketones for energy rather than glucose. It can take several months for the transition to complete. I’ve heard of some cases take 4 months but those are rare.
You can also look at your fat intake. Since you now get your fuel from fat you need plenty of it. Mineral deficiency’s, especially sodium, can also affect our energy.
I miss my GSP. She was a great bird dog. I had her retrieving ducks at six months old and she loved to quail hunt. I sure could have used her on my last pheasant hunt.

Bossman150 reacted to Scott F. in 5 week check inCongrats on the progress.
I hit some energy issues early on but for me it was fats and electrolytes. The weight was falling really fast as I was on a pound a day stretch for a hair over 30 days. My guess is as became more and more fat adaptive I needed more electrolytes, maybe more fat and not as much lean protein. Since I didn't read any instructions early on I stumbled through the first month or so.
I'm much heavier on the fats now and I use the electrolyte solution to salt my food, sometimes sort of heavy. Since, my energy levels have been far above where they were pre-carnivore.
Congrats on the new pup. We lost our English Bulldog after 16.5 years just this past week. I had a recliner, not sure of the brand, but it was called the beast. She would jump into the recliner, wedge herself in and the three of us, me, her and the recliner, would totally ruin a Saturday. Good times. At some point the innocence and energy of a new puppy will be a good thing for us too...
Best of luck and congrats.

Bossman150 reacted to Bob in One week weigh inYou're making excellent progress 🙂
That initial drastic weight drop is always exciting that first week (the water weight), but then it does slow down and become more realistic. Weight loss isn't linear. Somedays will even go up, leaving you scratching your head, lol.
My video on "Seeing is believing" shows my Carb Manager chart over there last several years of my weight loss journey. Down, down, up, down, stall, down, up, up, drastic down, stall again, lol.

Bossman150 got a reaction from Bob in One week weigh inWeek 2 I was down 4 pounds. A little disappointed but down is down. Still feel great and loving what I get to eat so I am happy!

Bossman150 got a reaction from Bob in One week weigh inAt the end of day 13, no cravings or sugar withdrawal symptoms so I think I am one of the lucky few to get through the first phase of kicking sugar addiction with no side effects. No diarrhea for 5 days either just normal bms every other day. I am keeping track of calories just as a side effect of tracking my fat to protein ratios which have stayed about 70/30 and I think that's OK. Surprisingly I have only gone over 2200 Cals 1 day and it was just a couple hundred over. I'm not really trying to keep to that number but eating till I'm full and only eating 1-2 times a day it's just working out that way.
I made my family breaded pork steak, mashed potatoes and gravy with sweet corn. It's one of my favorite meals and I won't lie it looked really good but it was not all that hard to pass it up. I just ate un breaded pork steak fried in bacon grease and it was really good, nice and fatty. I'm not really supposed to eat it as I am really trying to stick to bbb&e but I don't think it will hurt me much. What was harder though was not opening a can of sauerkraut to go with them!

Bossman150 got a reaction from Bob in One week weigh inI made it through the first week! No cheats, cravings or withdrawal symptoms and I feel pretty good. I dropped 9 pounds and I know a good bit was water but that's fine. I am back below 300 and I really hope to never see over 300 again!!
My goal is 220lbs so 9 down and 75 to go.
