  1. The other guys are leading you in the right direction Rock. I will just add that there are electrolyte supplements that don’t have Stevia or any other sweeteners in them. KetoChow is one and LMNT has one as well. Your cholesterol going up should not be a concern. There is no evidence that high cholesterol causes any heart disease. High LDLc is good for you and the only cholesterol marker you need to look at is your HDL to Triglyceride ratio. Divide your Tri’s by the HDL and if your ratio is 1.5 or less you are good to go. 2 isn’t terrible but could use improvement. At four months you could still be adapting so give it more time. Yes, fat and salt help with your energy. After all, you are no longer using glucose for energy so you must use ketones for energy and that can only come from fat. You are eating three meals a day but are you eating enough? It sounds like you have a high metabolism so you really need to sock the food away. Me personally I can function just fine and maintain my weight eating 1500 to 1700 calories a day and I do that with just one meal a day but I don’t have a high metabolism. I don’t know how many calories you are eating per day but it sounds like you may need to start tracking your macros the see if you are in a calorie deficit and to make sure you’re getting enough fat vs protein. You need to be your own N of 1 and experiment. If your eating 2000 cal per day then you might kick that up to 2500 for a few weeks to a month and see what happens. Keep a journal while you do this. If you still are losing the go up another 500 calories and see what happens. Keep doing this until you find what works for you. You can also use this method for finding the proper fat to protein ratio as well. You may need to increase your protein along with the fat to help add muscle. You just need to play with the numbers. Everyone is different so you need to find your own groove. Good luck and welcome to Carnivore Talk. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. You obviously look very fit and you have a good metabolism. All of my experience comes from the other spectrum of being fat, out of shape and metabolically sick but there are more and more athletes coming into the carnivore lifestyle for the simple fact that it’s a healthier way to eat and they find that once they are fat adapted they have better endurance. I agree wholeheartedly that you need to look up Dr’s. Chaffee and Baker. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience being world class athletes who eat carnivore. 3. Exactly the right attitude to have Scott. We have eaten a lifetime of bad food and it takes time to heal and turn things around. You’ve definitely got a handle on this. We are in this for the long haul so light the fire. Burn the beast and be happy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. That great that you have a receptive doctor Scott. Your BP isn’t terribly low as long as you aren’t feeling any issues such as light headedness. If you are concerned you may want to up your sodium intake. Are you taking any medications that could be lowering it? I know I had one of my heart meds that was bringing mine down to 78 over 54. Your LDLc is just fine. I wouldn’t expect it to go down on carnivore. In fact it usually goes up. The only concern I see on your cholesterol is your triglyceride’s and your HDL. It would be nice to see that HDL come up some and those tri’s come down. The best indicator of cardiovascular health is not the LDL but the tri to HDL ratio. You divide the HDL into the triglycerides and what you want to see is a 1.5 ratio or less. A ratio of 2 isn’t terrible but it could definitely be improved. Just the fact that your tri’s are under a hundred is good. I think you are doing good and you’ll see even better results a year from now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Yes you can. Most supplements that aren’t mineral in nature are going to be a plant derivative. In the beginning of eating carnivore many people do take supplements and I did as well but as you become fat adapted and metabolically healthy you find that you don’t need them anymore. If you are eating a fat and meat rich diet you should be getting all of the nutrients you need. If you are not sticking to a strict carnivore diet then you may need too. Also, if you have some specific issue that needs help you may need to supplement something in particular to help it. For instance, I take a magnesium supplement with citrate in it to help a bowel issue but here lately I think it’s getting better so I’m going to hold off taking it for awhile and see if that part of my body is finally getting adjusted to this way of eating. The thing with plant supplements is are they really all that bio available to our bodies? If the whole vegetables aren’t bio available to our bodies as many carnivore doctors claim then I wonder if the supplements, especially in their small amount, could actually do much of anything. Something to think about. Give it a try if you feel you may need them and maybe gradually get off of them as you progress in your health. If you choose to use them the I would look for the cleanest ones I could find. Many of the commercial ones sold in the big stores will have sugar and seed oils or soy in them. I would try to avoid that if possible. Try to find a heath food store or a compound pharmacy and you may find cleaner products. I get my toothpaste and deodorant at a health food store and I’ve gotten supplements for my mother in law there and I have found some that aren’t too bad. Good luck on your journey and let us know how it goes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. Any time. My methods for an offset will work just fine on a pellet grill. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Agreed. I never crave anything sweet or carby. I lost all of that in about 60 days of carnivore. It was one of the great freedoms of this way of eating. No more addictions to food. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. The majority of them are ignorant and it’s not really their fault. They never studied nutrition in school and never read the studies cover to cover just the title and the conclusion. I waited until my doctors were astonished and flabbergasted by the results and healing I received in less that one year and then I told them what had done to get there. It’s funny how they look at the results but deny the truth. My primary care doc loves what I’ve done but wants me on a statin and won’t listen to reason. We wants me to eat lean meats and doesn’t understand the human physiology and how fat works in the body. This is the same doctor that told me I was going to die because I refused to wear a mask and get “the jab”. He just don’t get it even when the proof is staring him in the face. My gastroenterologist, who was treating my Crohn’s disease with a high carb and high fiber diet, was killing me but when I when to him after eating strict carnivore for thirty days and told him I was cured because I did the exact opposite of what he told me to do he just said with a very huffy attitude “Well I’m glad you found something that works for you. You obviously don’t need me anymore.” Lol! I actually laughed and said “I guess you’re right” and we parted ways. My cardiologist has totally fallen in love with what I’ve done. He is convinced that I’m on the right path and praises what I’ve accomplished. He has slowly reduced all of my heart medication over a years period and finally took me off of the last of it and said “You’ve done more to heal yourself than anything I could have done for you and if you are still doing this good in six months I’m going to drop you as a patient. So it all depends on your doctors. Some are willing to look at things with an open mind and see the truth and others refuse to let go of their pride and look at the possibilities that they may be wrong and learn something from it. The only thing I advise is to be honest with them. It is constantly said that there have been no studies proving that carnivore works but I say we are the studies. Our doctors document every visit and if we are honest with them then our progress is being documented and tracked and some day all of this information may come to light and vindicate us. 13. It was a smoky day today. Smoked a mess of boneless beef ribs and a couple of NY strip steaks. Then I flame grill and butter basted some shrimp to go with it all. It was a feast. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. Well it was nice until they fell off the wagon about saturated fats. The brain is fat and needs fat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I never use metal on mine. Generally steaming them clean will do the job with a wooden spatula but if it’s stubborn enough I’ll use a plastic scrubber. My main skillet is a Griswald from the 40’s. I try to take really good care of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. Many of us get to a point where food is no longer for pleasure and entertainment but is now for nutrition and health. That isn’t to say that it can’t be enjoyable and varied but it becomes purpose driven. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. You definitely have a predicament. I’ve come across other people though that have the same issue when getting started. How do you do with eggs? Eggs are very nutritious and fatty. The people I know that don’t enjoy meat will generally eat it in smaller quantities throughout the day and in time as they become adapted they find themselves wanting more of it. Some just give up. I say keep trying and do it for at least 90 days as best you can and if need be maybe do keto at less than 20 grams of carbs per day and then slowly transition over to carni. Have you tried all different meats and fats? Even though they are definitely not preferable on carnivore but maybe you could try incorporating some fruit oils in to help get enough fat. Fruit oils being coconut oil, avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil but be careful with the EVO because it’s hard to fine pure EVO in America. It’s usually cut with canola oil. To know if your getting enough to eat you can of course just listen to your body but the easiest is to download the Carb Manager app. It will help you keep track of all of your macros. Good luck and I hope you find a solution. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Yesterday I had a ribeye at my sister in law’s restaurant and my wife gave me a rib from her meal but that wasn’t enough so when I got home I had a smoked leg of lamb chafflewich. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I’m sorry Meathead. I never intended to hurt your feelings. I was just trying to educate you. I had no idea that you would be so closed minded and sensitive as to not see that. I will refrain from trying to help you in the future. Not everyone cares to learn especially when it goes against what they want to believe. It’s a hard thing to accept sometimes. I get that. The truth is not always welcome to some. To everyone else…I apologize to everyone on here if I seemed out of line. I meant no harm. I was just pointing out facts and one of those facts is that plants do not belong on a carnivore diet essentially on a daily basis. I’ve even admitted that I eat some on a very rare occasion but the statement stands true, plants do not belong on the carnivore diet. I will continue to reiterate that if you like them and they don’t bother you then by all means, enjoy yourself but please don’t try to fool yourself into believing they are good for you. That’s just the truth. Sorry if that bothers anyone but the truth cannot be denied. Again, I apologize for the discord. I will now bow out of this conversation so say what you will and I will not respond. Y’all have a good day. Keep Calm and Carni On. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Ruminating animals such as cattle, sheep and venison are able to process the grains and toxic plants so that the effects on the meat is very minimal due to the fermentation process of their digestive system. As I’m sure your aware there is a big push within the carnivore/keto community to eat only grass finished beef rather than grain finished. That’s because there is a slight difference between the two due to the diet but for the most part it’s not that big a deal. Animals such as pork, chicken and fish are monogastric so they don’t process those grains and toxins efficiently so their meat is more affected. They are what they eat as the saying goes. That’s why you find carnivores who cannot tolerate those meats because they are more sensitive to those particular things. I can eat them with no problem but I find that they just don’t satisfy me like eating ruminant meat does. That I believe is due to the monogastric animals having a higher omega 6 to omega 3 ratio. I alway have to add lots of butter to even things out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. You are now becoming or have become fat adapted. You have lost your carb hunger that demands glucose and just gnaws at you until you feed that monster. You now have a keto hunger in which you are now running on ketones which is a pure energy. You only get hungry now when your body truly needs fuel and that hunger diminishes when it’s had enough. A empty belly no longer signals a hunger in me anymore. It’s easy to ignore. This is why so many of us end up eating OMAD. Congratulations, it’s a good sign that your doing it right. 25. Well everyone is different and what works for one may not work for another but you never know until you try. I think you’ve done fantastic in your progress. Now stop worrying about the weight. As your body heals it will happen but quite often we hit those stalls because the body is adapting or adjusting in its healing process. Sometimes you just need to keep on keeping on. Do you measure your body? Often when we appear to be at a plateau and the weight isn’t coming off we are actually losing inches. I’m not one for restricting calories because calories are energy and since we are fat adapted we need that energy but I do believe in eating only when I need fuel for energy. That means only when I’m hungry. And I mean truly hungry. An empty stomach doesn’t equate hunger to me. Hunger is when I feel the need to refuel and I know that meat is going to taste especially good to me. When I first started eating carnivore I ate by the clock like I always had but after a couple of weeks I started realizing that I was eating when I wasn’t really hungry. The food I was eating was so satiating that I just wasn’t getting hungry like I did before so I stopped eating by the clock and I now only eat when I’m truly hungry. That might be around 11:00 am or it might be 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Sometimes I just don’t get hungry for a day or two but that is rare. When I do eat I consume plenty of fats and protein with plenty of salt and I only drink water. I eat until I’m comfortably stuffed. When the meat stops tasting good I quit. I will generally consume around 1500 to 1700 calories and that works well for me. On the average I only eat once a day. During my journey I hit plateaus that would last upwards of about a month or so. It happened three times if I recall correctly. Each time I changed nothing. No gimmicks, no tricks. I just kept eating the same way every day. The thing is I understood the process and I didn’t see this as a diet. It’s my lifestyle and it didn’t matter when or how much weight I lost. I was going to eat this way no matter what. I knew that as my body healed that it would eventually get to its optimal weight. I didn’t really set any goals. In ten months I went from 225 to 170. That was with two one month stalls. Each time I stalled I wondered if I had reached my optimal level but in time it would kick back in. When I hit 170 I was pretty tickled because that was lighter than I had been when I joined the Army. I thought that’s it. I’ve hit my optimum weight. Well I was wrong. Once again I just kept eating the same way everyday and after about three months at 170 lbs my cardiologist took me off of my last heart medication and boom. I dropped five more pounds. So I know I got pretty windy here but I’m just trying to tell you to evaluate your diet and lifestyle to see if there is something you need to change whether it be a food, medicine or how often you eat and then be patient and let your body heal and do it’s thing.
