PeterT got a reaction from Bob in Derailed But LearningI can relate.
I've been addicted to and then quit the following, tobacco, cannabis, cocaine, alcohol and carbs ... probably more on my list too.
What works for me may not be what works for you but I'd say cheat for one meal only, not one entire day. And if you are going to binge then binge on Carnivore food.

Yeah, very hard question to anwser. One way is to experiment on yourself. Do you sleep OK? Try eating more, no result try using more electrolyes. Then try eating more fat and less protein etc etc etc.
Everything is within a range but we are all slightly different with our nutrient requirements

PeterT reacted to Beefbelly in Derailed But LearningOkay, I just wanted to share a bit of my personal journey so far. What I'm discovering and coming to terms with is that, for me personally, my diet and eating habits fall much more into the category of addiction. I'm realizing that I can make the transition, be disciplined, and do really well, and honestly, it’s not even that hard to stay on track.
But all it takes is one meal to completely derail me. It’s wild. I’ve tested this a few times, and the results are always the same. I can do great on my carnivore diet, eating clean, and then get lured into having some junk food. Every time I do, it throws me off for a week.
Then I get back on track, start eating healthy again, things are going great, and I decide to have just one meal of junk. Boom. Derailed again.
So here we go... no more “cheating.” Or maybe I don’t even need to call it cheating. Just be "strict" because its actually so much easier than the journey back from falling off.
I'm happy to learn and figure it out. It’s better than beating myself up and getting depressed about it. When I take that perspective, the learning perspective, maybe even a more scientific, objective approach to my diet, it really helps. I can compare what life is like when I’m eating well versus when I’m on a junk food binge, and the difference is huge.
My mental health is so much better. My physical health is so much better.
So, here I go again, getting back on track, going through that transition process once more. Let’s see how it goes. Hopefully, I can make the right choices and not let my addiction take over my mental and physical health this time around.
Ultimately, the big takeaway from all this, for me, is that staying on track is so much easier than recovering from a week of binge eating.

PeterT got a reaction from Bob in Hello all. Newbie here.Welcome Binny. You'll be OK. Give up drinking one day at a time. You don't need a drink today. Then tomorrow start by doing the same thing.
Also, one reason we are here is that we give things up. We get good at it. I started by giving up Drugs, then I gave up Smoking, next was Booze, then Carbs, Last thing I gave up was plants.

PeterT got a reaction from Bob in My Health Got Worse - Is My Carnivore Diet to Blame? [Video/Podcast]Amazing step by step logical approach. We are the best doctors we've got. In my case that's a worrying thought because I'm not that smart!

PeterT reacted to Outdoorstom in 90 days today! Thanks for the response. I’ve actually changed my mind on going Ketovore for the time being. Last night I was given what I believe was some solid advice on sticking with carnivore until my weight goals are met. I’m pretty close.

PeterT got a reaction from Geezy in Geoff’s Brisket, Texas StyleYeah, who'd have thought the science writers would could be so deceitful. We do suffer plenty of opposition but of course 'real life' experience is on our side.
Hey Old Marine, do you have Raynaud's phenomenon? also know as 'white finger'. I had this nerve damage (now reversed) from years of chain saw vibration.

PeterT got a reaction from Geezy in started another fast todayHere's one thought on IF.
Recently I was diagnosed with IBD, I was in a bad way, 16 really unpleasant, rushed visits to the smallest room. This was something I'd had on and off for many years. Anyway, I had to do something and refused the meds, so I thought I'd give my guts a rest, let them heal was my thought, seemed logical.
I did a 3 day fast, that was 2 months ago, I've just had my results back from a calprotectin test (the marker for IBD) and my doctor can find zero evidence of IBD, she's in shock! my calprotectin score was 6 mg/g, she said that's about the best score she's seen in anyone. I'll be doing this 3 day fast once every month.

PeterT got a reaction from Geezy in Cast Iron Pan VS Stainless Steel PanI use one, it suits the cooking style I like for steaks. I give the steak a good sear then pop the lid on for a few minutes rest. I find it gives predictable results. And a bonus feature is the fat doesn't fly around quite so bad.

PeterT reacted to Geezy in Cast Iron Pan VS Stainless Steel PanThat’s odd because most people I’ve come across prefer the taste of their eggs in cast iron.
Just shows you that taste is subjective.

PeterT reacted to Terry in started another fast todayI always say fasting is like magic. I normally sleep 8-9 hours but when in a fasted state 6 hours sleep is about all I need and then it's time to wakey-wakey. I would agree on the mental clarity also. if let's say I lose 5 lbs on a fast I will put back on 3 maybe 4 lbs over the next several days, But that is still a win. On the one I just ended I'm going to try for a bigger gain this time by really watching food intake. It would be so cool to lose 5 or 6 lbs and then keep that off forever
