  1. Aldi lets me try cuts we don't have locally. The little store I part time at still has $3.49 lb bacon. And their burger just went up to $4.50. I got a bone in ham yesterday for $1.49 lb. I don't usually need to go anywhere else.
  2. I had my first ever pound of Wagu burger. Aldi's brand. Was cheaper than the regular burger at the butcher shop. Wasn't bad, but I dunno if I'll do it again any time soon. Wasn't that special. I like when they have their specials on 70/30 in a five pound tube.
  3. I've ate hamburger raw back when I was young and had all my chompers. Seems like I ate a rabbit that didn't rotisserie quite long enough. And raw eggs were common. But then we drank out of the creek. I probably wouldn't do that now without filtering. I spect we all ate raw meat back before Mr. Zippo invented fire.
  4. They look like hush puppies. However a lot of them "powders" are not readily available around here. Me personally, will probably just experiment with fish balls and call it good. 😀
  5. I never was much on hush puppies. Everyone had them at fish-frys. I just liked the fish and slaw. But thinking modified fish balls. Maybe shredded or pounded fish with garlic, finely chopped onions, whatever spices you want, Thickened with pork panko, then dipped in egg and maybe more panko, then fried in tallow or bacon grease.
  6. I had a six egg pizza at work. Work mate fixed herself some sausage patties and something? And left me the grease which I added butter to. Then added pepperoni and Colby jack cheese. Then stuffed more butter in random places when it was done. Pretty well filled me for the day.
  7. Dill pickles are good for grease splatter burns. I keep a jar in my kitchen for first aid. 😀 Mustard works good too. I know people that love dill pickle anything. I am not one of those people. 🙂 I do share your likeness for blue cheese tho. 😃
  8. I've been cooking for most of my life as well. Twenty years of it, I actually got paid for it. At home since it's just me, I like one pot meals. And sometimes even eat out of the pot. I read or watch tons of recipes, then condense them to suit my liking. As a great cook once said; A recipe is but a road map. Shows you where you are and where you want to go, but it's up to you to choose the scenic route or the shortcut, as long as you get there.
  9. I probably would have never tried it if not for a neighbor getting a beef butchered. Lots of bone broth jello left over. Mmm. I also can score organ meats this way. Probably a rural thing, like being in the right place at the right time.
  10. Most of this video is all bout the history of Spam. While also including an old recipe of cream cheese and spam. The video creator wasn't too impressed. But did his homework on where Spam came from. I thought interesting. The history of Spam
  11. Yesterday I had a slab of ribs slow on the grill. This evening, Had a pound of ground beef with blue cheese and a home grown mater. I like ox tail. Luckily not everyone else likes it. So when one of my neighbors butcher, I sometimes get the tail. and other parts.
  12. I get a cat scan every evening. Sometimes I get multiple scans when they all try to get on my lap at the same time. 🫣 🤪
  13. Worked today and they had some ribs that hadn't sold yet. So that's what I had. Another slab.
  14. Yesterday I had a slab of ribs for lunch, since work smoked meats the night before. I'm thinking tonight I may clean out the fridge. Some burger, some polish sausages and the leftover chicken from the other night.
  15. Grilled 4.59 lbs of chicken leg quarters. Ate all but one. Had a cup of almost decaf. What I mean by almost. I buy cheap decaf and add a teeny amount of Folgers reg. Sometimes I have decaf, sometimes I have almost decaf. Just enough caf to keep the caffeine monsters at bay. .... Then sometimes I grind some beans and get the full effect.
  16. For lunch at work, I had a five egg pizza. ie, omelet with pepperoni and a few slices of mild cheddar. Usually I find a knob of butter in the kitchen but not today. And I wasn't gonna open a box so I opted for coconut oil. Musta used a lil much as a couple hours later I could've threaded a screen door and not touched a wire. That'll teach me. Brought home some baby back ribs that's thawing out.
  17. Ya, my last bout of it when I ate the kippered beef only lasted about a half day. I was thankful for that. Back when I was eating the SAD, it would last a week or so. Noooo, I'd tell folks that didn't understand that it was like having a kidney stone in your toe.
  18. When I have a flair up, that's where I get it also. In the left big toe. The last flair up I had, I had ate about a quarter pound of kippered beef sticks. I'm gonna go with maybe it was all the black pepper in it. ? I don't know for sure. Maybe it was some other chemical in it? I haven't had it since and have stayed away from kippered beef as well as black pepper. I know black pepper is high in oxalates . Have since switched to white pepper on occasion. ... Us people that are susceptible to gout and/or kidney stones need to lower the oxalate count as much as possible.
  19. The store owner smoked meats this weekend. So I was sitting on lunch eating a slab of ribs and the owner just looked at me and called me a Carnivore. The nerve of him. 😀 So that's what I've had today, a slab of ribs.
  20. I get my eggs from two batches of chickens. One friend, his wife spoils the hens and the yolks are a dark orange. The other friend, I don't think his wife does anything except feed them. they're pale compared to the other friend. They have darkened up somewhat since I been taking them old produce from the store. But they're eggs and they do eat. I haven't paid for an egg for a couple years, except for the delivery of produce scraps.
  21. A lady came in the store today and bought a bag of oats. I asked, Gonna make cookies? She said No, gonna put it in my smoothie. And she had all the confidence she was doing the right thing. I've never had a smoothie. Had a slushy once. And looking back, the slushy was probably better for me than a smoothie.
  22. Last year I put one of my Magnesium complex tabs and a Potassium tab and some sea salt in a mortar and pestled it to dust then dumped it in my water jug. I only did that on really hot days that I was outside for an extended period. .... I had read up on all the recipes for DIY electrolyte mixes and figured I already had measured doses in tablet form. Is it the right way? Did it work? Who knows. But it didn't hurt and was way cheaper.
  23. On days I work, they urge me to have lunch or I will surely starve to death. 😀 So I usually have a four egg omelet cooked in butter with pepperoni and added butter and sometimes cheese. I call it my egg pizza. On most of the rest of the days, I eat Omad. I've done a four day fast three times over the years. Usually it's a 48 give-er take hour fast when the urge strikes me. And I too wish I had skipped the years of Dumpster diet. I blame Mom. She always said to Clean your plate. And I did, no matter how high I piled it. 🤪
