Carnivore and kidney function
I'm going to move back into that direction. The morning meal was for the 'extra protein' to build muscle and the evening meal has been to eat dinner with my wife. I doubt I have been actually hungry on either of the occasions. I have more bloodwork in another month or so in late December. I am planning to eat more 'sensibly' between now and then. Scott

Carnivore and kidney function
Some of my bloodwork has been posted. The only thing out of the norm is my Urea-Nitrogen (BUN) number jumped from the 16-17 it has been for years to 24. One of the causes can be a high protein diet. I have had two panels ran since I started Carnivore and the previous two were 16 and then 17 about 3 months or so in. Today showed a significant jump. As of late I have been eating a lot more. I have been lifting a bit more and have also been eating more to have enough protein to build muscle. I6 does not feel excessive but I am not sure. I eat a couple three, sometimes four eggs in the morning. If we have leftover meat from the night before I eat that too. I then eat again at night with my wife. Still strictly carnivore, but I am eating more than I feel like eating (if that makes sense). I think I will ease back to eating when I am hungry which will be about OMAD and see if numbers track down. First time I seen those numbers go up ever, and the only thing changed is I purposely increased protein the last few weeks/month ago. Scott

Great visit with my Neurologist today
Today was my follow up appointment. I had traded emails over the past few months. In the emails she seemed genuinely interested in the Carnivore approach but that failed in comparison to the visit today. As i was walking in she and another Neurologist were talking and I heard 'animal based diet'. I didn't know they were talking about me. She came in and asked if the other Neurologist could sit in on the visit. The conversation covered my start in May til now. They both asked a number of questions about what I eat, how I feel and the correlation between the diet, the weight loss and the coming off the medicine for inflammation. I have read many non-doctor you-tubers say how doctors do not actually study nutrition and just go off what has been 'put out' by the fraternity. My Neurologist actually said it out loud. She told me she had become really interested in the carnivore approach in the MS community and its affects. So interested, she wants me to drop her emails every week or so documenting my progress/setbacks, whatever, just general information. It was a really good visit. Scott

Nice to meat you 🥩
Scott F. replied to Jamie Henry Brown's post in a topic in Introduce Yourself & Welcome to the Tribe!Welcome. I'm a little over six months in and looked at Carnivore as an 'easy for me' weight loss plan. I stumbled onto the bigger picture purely by accident. I didn't research nor read; I simply dove right in without any forethought. Turns out, this is a pretty good way to go. Scott

Eating when your only hungry, versus eating when you know you need to eat?
Ditto on the above. Carnivore, pardon the wording, can be 'apples and oranges' for the young and the older. For me, when I eat meat, especially red meat, I am totally full with what I see as a small portion. I don't feel like I get pulled into fasting but it just sort of happens. I'm not hungry all the time so I don't eat all the time. When I eat it is because I am trying to build some muscle at 55. Building muscle at 55 is difficult enough but not wanting to eat the protein/calories needed is another obstacle. For a young person who is still growing I would say eat what your body tells you and then maybe some more if you are active in your day-to-day life. I don't recommend fasting as I don't know all the affects as I am still experimenting with it myself. I would guess a younger person would need the nutrients more than the fasting. but again, no real experience/knowledge in this area. (I'm new to the carnivore and at 55, not exactly a young pup anymore) Good luck. Scott

The LMNT Controversy
I didn't read the article but there is a sports drink called PRIME that is in a similar boat. I have been straight water for a couple months now. The first three or four I used flavor packets that were probably similar to LMNT. The Food Lion brand Pink Lemonade hade a listing for zero sugar. I am sure the "SUGAR" was slid in with a different name and maybe the amounts were minuscule as well, but I am sure they are present. Scott

Eating when your only hungry, versus eating when you know you need to eat?
Seldom am I actually hungry since going Carnivore. Most days I could easily go 24-30 hours without issue. I think what you are experiencing is fairly normal. I started in May at 306 and this week I weighed in at 229. I still have some weight to go but at the same time I'm lifting in an attempt to build muscle. I eat a beef and egg meal in the mornings after lifting and I try to eat in the evening with my wife. On the lifting days, after the morning meal it is all, I can do to eat again that evening. Getting off the original topic but there is another post on here about protein shakes/keto chow type supplementation. I read that a few months ago and I can see how that would work for me. Whole foods are better by far, but it is going to be a struggle to eat enough protein to build muscle. (totally off topic, my apologies) One of the amazingly ironic things is just a few months ago I could eat my 16oz rib eye with a loaded baked potato, finish off my wife's steak, three to four glasses of sweet tea, and then eat dessert but now I am hard pressed to eat a whole rib-eye at dinner, especially if I had a couple eggs that morning. I never imagined the struggles of eating more. Scott

The LMNT Controversy
The amount would not bother me as much as thinking it was 'intentional' as just the word "maltodextrin" would hurt sales. When I am looking for something 'sugar free' I'm expecting 'sugar free' not sugar slipped in as 'flavor carrier'. I would have been one of the duped customers if I thought it tasted good when I first tried it as an electrolyte boost. For me, it simply didn't taste good. Maybe RFK Jr. will get all this corrected? LOL Scott

TTMA Rendering fat
I put my crispies in zip lock bags. They never last long enough to reach whatever their 'expiration date' would be. LOL I pour mine thru cheese cloth. It is somewhat slow but not the end of the world. Scott

New Guy from Oklahoma
Ditto on the above post. Welcome. Tons of support here. Heck, I probably need your support as well. I just hit six months last week. Nothing but positives for me thus far. Again, welcome. Scott

A year and a half of semi carnivore (not to strict) and gaining weight again
After years on the 2% I am just about sure I would have to chew the whole milk. LOL Scott

Just to let you know.
I'm using only salt and on occasion some black pepper. I was never a big 'seasonings guy' prior to so this one is a 'no biggie' for me. Baby back ribs are the only thing that I purposely used spices/rubs. I grew up where 'once you got past the "meat, the heat with salt and pepper, you were living above your raisings". A couple night ago I smoked some baby backs on my son's pellet grill. I put salt on my rack and for my wife I made the same basic rub I have made for years. Brown sugar, sugar, pepper, salt and paprika. I did lick my fingers after cutting them up and going without sugar for a stretch makes sugar 'way sweeter' than I remembered. The rub off the ribs was more like candy than anything. Sugar can be powerful (and addictive). Scott

A year and a half of semi carnivore (not to strict) and gaining weight again
Welcome. Ditto on the above posts. Especially the part about the dairy. When my weight was falling pretty fast, I was straight/strict carnivore. Just meat, salt and water. The WHY CARNIVORE? varies. For me, my son tried it for a month or so, and he lost 14-16lbs. The idea of "only meats" sounded doable so I gave it a whirl. The weight fell incredibly fast and after I got started (maybe three or so weeks in did I actually read about Carnivore. I learned some early lessons the hard way. I, for no better words, 'stumbled upon' the health benefits other than the weight loss. I had no idea. Three-four weeks in the pain/inflammation medicine I "needed" (taken for actual pain/not every day) I all of a sudden didn't need them. Again, no idea. Fast forward at about 4-5 months in I reintroduced milk. The steady fall in weight sort of stopped with milk and it didn't take a lot of milk. I have bounced around 70-75lbs lost for the last month to 6 weeks. This is maybe 3-4 glasses of 2% milk per week. I have not had a drink since the early 2000's so I can't speak to the effects of alcohol other than what I have read. I have not re-introduced veggies since I started so I can't really speak to which veggies or how much, again, only what I have read. I can speak to milk, and it will put the brakes on the weight loss (at least it did for me). I have not to start back on the medicine for pain/inflammation so I'm good with a glass here and there. I eat cheese every so often and when I do I make it a point to skip that next glass of milk. I'm not sure how well that is in approach, but it gives me the warm fuzzies. LOL Best of luck. The only advice I could give is the Carnivore diet/lifestyle is much more about what you eliminated than what you eat. Pick one of the three you mention, eliminate it, try that for a few weeks and see where you land. Then maybe the second one, go from there. You may find a successful version and it may be a tad bit different than mine. Scott

isn't it ironic....
Good crowd. It was several in the crowd that went KETO for a stretch and said they had pretty good success. Like most diets, they were not sustained. I told a couple of them that going from KETO to CARNIVORE is not as big a leap as it seems, but the results can be really amazing. My buddy sent me a meme that basically said no one cared when I was eating McDonald's and Mountain Dews and Little Debbie Cakes by the handfuls but as soon as I went on Carnivore everyone became a doctor...or in so many words. LOL It was a good time and some good conversation, but with a bit of irony. Scott

isn't it ironic....
We went to West Virginia this weekend riding side by sides up and down the mountains. Had a blast. Several of the people on the trip I had not seen since pre-carnivore. As we discussed the Carnivore approach it was almost 'fun' listening to the "question and answer session". There were a husband/wife couple who were both in the medical field, one a nurse and the other in the lab. As I described the things I cut out and the now it is only meat, salt and water adding that I try to eat red, fatty cuts of meat the majority of time, I actually got a lecture on the things I was missing in my diet. What about Vitamin C? What about fiber? Where are you getting your greens from and what are you doing for anti-oxidants? I explained each the best I could. For me the irony was standing there with about an 8 ounce rib-eye out of a napkin with a bottle of water I brought from home while they covered the shortcomings of a carnivore diet whilst eating bags of Doritos/Hot Fries, cold Pizza and drinking beer (copious amounts of beer). Another part of the irony was that was me just a few months ago and I don't feel like I have done near the research I probably need to do as I slowly transition from this being a Carnivore Diet to being a "Carnivore Lifestyle". Ignorance is bliss but it is also fattening and detrimental to one's health. With that said, a great group of people and we had a blast up and down the mountains. Some flat out racing, some cruising and some sketch hill climbs, but a blast all the same. It is a great part of the country to vacation/do a weekend ride. Plus, this weekend was six months on the diet. No medicines since late May and down 75lbs. I feel as good as I have in a really, really long time. I was the 55 year (old guy in the group) old guy walking down the side of the mountain to find out if the path was blocked then walking back up. These 25–28-year-old (kids) stopping half-way back up to catch their breath/grab a second wind. Maybe there is some irony there as well. LOL Scott

Hello New from Gulf Breeze FL
Welcome. You started off much better than me. I didn't research nor did I read instructions. I just dove in head-first. I just hit six months this weekend. Again, welcome. Scott

New to the tribe
This is my favorite saying, I think. Except, in the Navy my Dive School Instructor use to say, "There is no such thing as a stupid question only stupid people that ask questions". Brings back memories. Scott

New to the tribe
@geezy Spot on. I sort of dove right in and ate non-carnivore stuff because I had just bought it and didn't waste it (LOL) Most start on Carnivore as a diet. Just remember it is an elimination diet. Some of the things you listed can be eliminated to get you closer to carnivore. Over time it becomes a lifestyle change and the idea of it as a diet is a thing of the past. Welcome. And best of luck. This is a really good place to learn, voice your experiences and engage with others' experiences. Again, welcome and good luck. Scott

6 weeks in on carnivore diet. Potential weird side effects
Going on the bare minimal of information (and only 6 months experience) I would lean toward fat content and hydration along with total amounts eaten. I have only been truly hungry a couple three times, twice really early and one the last hour of a 72 hour fast. None of the edginess or stress but hungry as all get out. Once I got my fat content and electrolytes up it has been smooth sailing. (I didn't read the directions. I just ate meat, salt and water and waited for the magic to happen. After some adjustments the magic started to happen, LOL) Good luck. Scott

2-year Postpartum with a Love for Powdered Milk and Chocolate
Welcome. There is a lot of good information here. As far as the gym membership, save your money and us youtube. There are millions of at-home workouts that will get you to where you want to be. Bodyweight exercises are amazing. And most don't believe it, but simply walking for30-60 minutes several times a week will do wonders. Then build from there. As far as the sugars, I finished up the Mountain Dews I had purchased earlier in the week when I started. (I also finished off a tub of ice cream that first week as well) I had never been much of a water drinker so getting started i used the drink mixers to stay hydrated. Now it is strictly water. Carnivore is addition by subtraction. it is more about what you removed from your diet that what you are eating. Good luck, and welcome. Scott

Bacon for Strict Carnivores
Scott F. replied to Carnivore Konner's post in a topic in Carnivore, Ketovore, Keto, & Low-Carb SupportThey turned out pretty good. I turned the heat down and was tending to a sick dog. It took a few more minutes than needed and I dried the first ones out. They still tasted good but not like a juicy hamburger should be. The rest I froze and will eat tomorrow night at work. Growing up bacon was a staple. My Pops use to say if you made a sandwich out of three pieces of bacon between two pieces of cardboard, at least one person would ask for seconds. This is a pretty good topic, but I doubt I ever get to that level of discretion. Scott

Bacon for Strict Carnivores
Scott F. replied to Carnivore Konner's post in a topic in Carnivore, Ketovore, Keto, & Low-Carb SupportA chunk of ours is homemade but the biggest part is store bought. I'm not all that strict on the bacon. I don't eat a ton of it regularly but every so often I eat a pound pack over a couple three days. Earlier in the week I ground a pound into some burger. I will get that over three to four meals. I'm sure some of the bacon I buy has sugar but I'm not sure I could ever reach total perfection with carnivore buy reading every label and researching every brand. Interesting topic. Scott

Cooking eggs wrong.
He has a couple good videos I have watched. Week after next when I am off work for 6 or 7 days I am going to give this a try. I feel like I can eat eggs by the five-gallon bucket anyway. Scott
