  1. The syrups are not part of the curing process but simply added for the flavor. As you know, we try to stay away from anything that contains sugar. But it’s all subjective to the individual. Will that tiny amount of sugar on the edge of that bacon harm you? Only you can tell. Will you be eating the whole pound at one sitting? It might, but three of four slices probably not. You could try it and if you see no difference then it is probably not that bad for you but if you find yourself experiencing inflammation, cravings or skin issues then that may be a problem. You can be your N of 1. Now me personally? I don’t want anything sweet in my life except my bride so I would avoid it.
  2. We store fat everywhere. Yes, I have absolutely noticed weight loss in my feet as well as my hands. I had forgotten that I had knuckles and veins in my hands. I’ve got a pair of cowboy boots that have been my favorites for over 40 years and when I bought them they were a little snug but for the last ten years they’ve been too tight to wear. In fact it got to the point I couldn’t even get them on. A couple of days ago I decided to see how they fit and boy was I pleasantly surprised. They not only slid right on but had room to spare. They fit better than they did when I first bought them.
  3. You can still have nachos. Just use pork rinds and cheese with some kind of meat. You don’t need the chili powder. Heck, I’ll even use jalapeños occasionally.
  4. I guess you’re looking at it on a PC? I can turn on dark mode on my phone.
  5. Been outta pocket for a few days so just coming across this. Cool thread. So today is starting out early. I was up by 0100 hrs to put a lamb quarter on the smoker. I’ve calculated this lamb to take 13 hours to get to fall apart tender doneness so it should be ready about 1400 hrs. My last meal was yesterday around 1230 hrs so by the time I eat today it will have been about 25 hours of fasting. When that lamb is ready you can bet I’m going to be stuffing myself.
  6. Sounds nice. I’ll have to give that a try. Thanks.
  7. Well that didn’t last long did it. Lol. Welcome Kayla and congratulations on a good comeback later that evening. If I can give you some advice, plan ahead. Have some bacon already precooked waiting in the fridge that you can grab right quick when one of those cravings hit you. It’s possible that it’s your cheese that is causing those cravings because cheese has sugar in it in the lactose. If you feel that you really need to eat cheese then make sure it’s made from full fat dairy and not skim or part skim milk. You are doing good so keep up the good work. Stay committed to kicking that sugar addiction.
  8. I start my morning with a half a cup of bone broth mixed with half a cup of water, heated up and blended with a tablespoon of butter. So I guess you could say that’s actually a first meal so technically not OMAD but I never count it as a meal. I will only eat again when I get hungry and that may be anytime between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm or 1300 hrs for those overseas. If I’m busy or not at home I find it real easy to ignore the hunger until I can get home or slow down enough to fix something. That’s the thing I love about carnivore is that hunger doesn’t control me like it used to. I don’t equate an empty belly with hunger. Hunger is that desire or urge to eat because my body needs fuel. When I do eat , I eat enough to completely satisfy me and it holds me till the next day. I can easily put away two pounds of meat.
  9. Congratulations on your one month anniversary. It only gets better from here. I have to concur with Scott. OMAD is one of those things that just come naturally. If it doesn’t with you then don’t force it. No reason to. Generally if we get hungry it’s our body telling us we need fuel. In that case eat. But is it really hunger or just an empty belly? I’ve discovered there is a difference. The conventional wisdom among the carnivore community is if you are getting hungry that soon then you aren’t eating enough. Now that could be fat, protein or both. You may need to experiment to find out. Who knows, you may be one of those that just needs a lot of fuel. A high metabolism can do that. It sounds like you are doing great so far so you might just keep doing what you’re doing as long as you’re getting good results.
  10. I don’t have much appetite today. I’ve got a cold that’s kickin my tail but I did manage to eat about a pound of venison steak with butter today.
  11. Feeding your inner rabbit? lol. Brother that still way healthier than 90% of what Americans eat on a daily basis.
  12. Welcome to carnivore talk. You are correct, carnivore is the best. So tell us what it’s done for you.
  13. Welcome to carnivore talk LoFo. as Bob said you are just in the beginning and yes, the majority of us, those that just go in cold turkey, experience these things. Your gut biome has had a lifetime of eating bad foods and now must switch over from digesting and utilizing crap food to digesting real nutrient dense food. It’s a transition that takes time. In some animals it can kill them but fortunately humans are more resilient. Your fatigue is due to your transition as well. Your body has been running on glucose for its whole existence and now it must change over to burning fat for fuel. For some people that switch turns on very quickly and for others, myself included, it can take some time. There’s no magic tricks to this. We all have different physiologies so this affects us all differently. Just keep eating a high fat, moderate protein diet with plenty of salt and water. Just make sure you are eating enough. I personally don’t eat by the clock. I eat when I’m hungry. That may be once a day or on some occasions twice a day but never three times a day. I eat until I’m comfortably full. One meal will generally hold me for 24 hours. My last bit of advice would be to stop eating dairy as a meal. While dairy is considered carnivore in that it’s an animal product it does contain carbs and sugars. If it’s made from skim or low fat then it’s nothing but sugar. Read your labels on everything, it’s very important. If you must eat dairy then the conventional wisdom from the popular carnivore doctors is to only use it as a condiment, such as a slice of cheese on your burger or some butter in your coffee. I know this is something that I struggle with as I love dairy but I love it because it’s addictive. I’m in the process of breaking that addiction. I hope this helps and know that you are not alone. We’ve been there, done that and we are here to help you through this.
  14. We like to refer to that as weight optimization. When eating a proper diet our bodies will put us where we need to be. We just need to give it time to do its thing.
  15. I can’t do the pepper as it’s too inflammatory but the bleu cheese in butter is the bomb on steaks.
  16. With this being winter we don’t normally encounter allergy symptoms around here. That more of a springtime thing. Prior to starting carnivore my eyes watered all the time. My nose ran constantly and in the spring my eyes would itch really bad. I kept medicine on hand for that. After being in carnivore for a while my eyes dried up. They stopped itching. My nose dried up about 80%. Now it only runs when it’s cold. Your recent illness could very well be what’s happening but it could also have something to do with oxalate dumping.
  17. No. I sometimes don’t have a BM for 10-14 days. If you are eating zero carb then you have very little waste to move through your system. Get out of that old mindset that I have to take a dump everyday. That world is over. If you just aren’t experiencing an urge to go then there’s just nothing there. If on the other hand you are feeling like you have to go but you’re stopped up or you are trying to push gravel then you are constipated. In that case you could start taking a magnesium citrate supplement. That will soften your stool. You could take a laxative but i hate the chemical stuff. I have an herbal tea I keep on hand called Smooth Move. It work really well. I felt with true constipation for about a year on carnivore. I think it was due to the fact that I don’t have a gallbladder but it eventually worked itself out as my body adjusted.
  18. I can understand where someone can see it that way. I don’t agree with everything he says but when he states something as fact he can usually back up his claims. I personally think that Chaffee and Baker and some of the others can be a little wishy washy in what they say because they don’t want to offend some people. I appreciate his being resolute in his approach. I just have to go by my experience in following Dr. Barry’s advice because it’s been 95% spot on for me.
  19. Seriously? Dr. Barry is one of the most liberal people on the internet when it comes to carnivore. He is very understanding and not the least bit dogmatic. Even his wife is not carnivore. He’s definitely a live and let live kind of guy. The point he was trying to make is to simply eat what you can afford to eat and if that’s your only meat source then it’s better than the alternatives. You can’t get any less black and white than that , lol. If you can only afford to eat burger or mince then maybe you could get a meat grinder and make your own mince. That might be the cheapest way and you’d know exactly what’s in it.
  20. Not to worry. As Dr. Ken Barry says, eat what you can afford to eat as long as it’s meat. If all you can afford is hotdogs and lunchmeat it’s still better than highly processed junk and vegetables.
