  1. Because you are now fat adapted that fat is your fuel hence the rush would be my guess.
  2. Interesting video. I find it interesting that his first charts looked like his lower numbers were falling within the recommended fasting window but his final chart it seemed that they were outside that window. I can’t see the charts very well on my phone but they were still very close to the recommended fasting window. It’s still very interesting though and definitely needs further study. I’d love to see more people trying this to see if they can correlate his findings. In fact it would be great if you could try this and report back your findings. Of course we have to remember that he was an N of 1 and just because this worked in his body doesn’t mean it works the same for everyone. The thing about fasting blood test is that they are not just centered around test cholesterol. There are other things being tested as well that a longer fast may affect negatively as was in my case. I should have clarified when I said that fasting took long and I believe it was over 24 hours, messed up my numbers it wasn’t my cholesterol, those numbers are great, but it was my A1b and glucose numbers that were off. If his test can prove significant among a greater population then it would definitely be a good idea to make a blood test for cholesterol totally separate from any other with a different fasting window. Good video, thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I am nearly in the same boat as you. I haven’t been one of the carnivores that get a great nights sleep. I only get 4-5 hours sleep a night. I will wake up multiple times throughout the night. If I go to bed at 10 I will wake up by 2. If I go to bed around 11 or 12 I’ll wake up around 3 or 4. I’ll go back to sleep if I can but sometimes it’s just impossible. It’s pretty much guaranteed I’m going to get up a 5 am. I like getting up at 5 because it gives me about 2 hours alone time before anyone gets up to do my devotionals, Bible study and reading. I’m retired but it doesn’t seem to matter how hard I work that day or how little it’s always the same. I’ve spend pretty much all my life getting up between 3 and 5 in the morning so I just figured it’s a habit for me. I also start getting tired around 9 pm myself but I don’t dare go to bed too early. I’m I eat pretty strict carnivore and while I used to take a magnesium complex I haven’t taken any in over a month now. There’s been no change either way. I emphasize with you but I have no idea how to change it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Fasting prior to a blood test should only be 8-12 hours. I’ve made the mistake of fasting for 24 hours and it screwed up my results. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Welcome Merlin. I personally have no experience with kidney disease but Bob the owner of this forum does. He has stage 4 kidney disease and is doing well as a carnivore. I’m sure he will be along shortly to answer any questions you have. I have never heard anyone express the fat to protein ratio by volume versus weight. It is generally a weight to weight ratio. There are no set rules to how we do carnivore because it’s subjective to the individual. We are all different so we have to adjust the diet to what our bodies require. We generally start of with a baseline or foundation as I like to call it of a 70% fat to 30% protein ratio. Some do better with less fat while others do well with more fat. Equal amounts of protein and fat by weight are 31% protein and 69% fat by caloric content. (Protein contains roughly 4 (k)cal/g, whereas fats average around 9 (k)cal/g.) The general consensus is, If your goal is weight loss, aim for 1g of protein per pound of your goal body weight and then add high quality animal fat to this until satiety. This will usually end up being about 1:1 fat to protein ratio in terms of gram. This ratio translates to about 70% of calories from fat and 30% of calories from protein You may find that some recommend 1.5 grams of protein while others recommend 2 grams but 1 gram is a good place to start. I personally have never measured any of my food. If you eat fatty meat, cook it in fat and if it’s lean use the fat drippings as a gravy or dip it in butter you should meet the ratio requirements. If you are the analytical type then you might enjoy measuring your food.

  7. That’s fantastic! You’ve got nothing to worry about. You are at less than 1. Keep rockin on man.
  8. Not a problem Scott. This is an open forum and we can only help each other when we are open and honest. Anyways, I never had a moment when I “felt” like I didn’t need my medicine although I did wonder if I didn’t need it anymore. It was actually my cardiologist that made the decisions based solely on my what my body was doing. In the first three or four months he took me off of the Metropol because it was taking my blood pressure too low. When it hit 75/54 he said get off of that NOW. My diet had brought my BP down to normal levels and the medication was bringing it down too low artificially. After that my cardiologist made the decision to cut my second medication (Flecinide) in half at about the 6th or 8th month because I was doing so well with losing weight and getting healthy. My EEG’s were coming out perfect. My heart palpitations and PVC’s were down from 8-12 a day to maybe once a day. After another six months he took me off of the medication completely because after a year I was still improving and it looked like I could maintain my eating lifestyle. My palpitations are reduced to maybe one or two a week and they are so mild I barely notice them. My cardiologist said that I have done more to heal myself than anything he could have done for me. He has also put me on a once a year schedule now. He also knows that I’m carnivore and is just thrilled with my progress and results. None of this was my decision but his because of the results he was seeing. Your cholesterol numbers are just fine, in fact your HDL to Triglycerides ratio is good at a 2 and shows no indication of cardiovascular risk. It would be better if it were less than 1.5 but 2 is still good. Give your diet more time and it souls get there. I can’t tell you what to do as it’s all your decision but your numbers are similar to mine and there is no way that I would be willing to take any kind of medication for my cholesterol when it’s just fine the way it is. Every study I’ve seen on the subject showed that those with low cholesterol were at a greater risk for all cause mortality and those with higher cholesterol, especially in my age range tend to live longer. I’m not a gambler but I’ll take those odds.
  9. I have seen this in other people and it’s not common but from what I’ve read it’s not completely uncommon for our numbers to go up especially in the beginning. Remember that your cells are using fat for energy instead of glucose. Fat needs to be transported in the blood inside lipoproteins (because fat can't mix with water/blood). So it is only natural that your cholesterols would increase when you are fat adapted. I would definitely give it more time before I got too concerned about it. It may level out more after you become fully fat adapted.
  10. Wow! That video is still circulating? That’s cool. I appreciate the advice on vitamin C. It’s been awhile since that video interview and in that time my system seems to have started to straighten out on its own. Taking a magnesium complex was helping but in the last month I haven’t need it. So I’m hoping I may finally be normal. But I will definitely keep your recommendation on file incase things turn back the other way.

  12. I was on the road yesterday and talking with my wife about this video and it dawned on me that I could take this up another notch. I was coming back from Louisiana and I love Cajun food and especially crawfish and it hit me, don’t just boil the catfish but use crawfish boil seasoned water just like you would with crawfish. My next mess of cars I’m gonna try this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I’ve been I Louisiana for a couple of days visiting family. I got home last night. In those two days I just never found the time to eat much. I just had a ribeye each day. When I weighed this morning I had lost 3 pounds. [emoji15] Dang!!! I was already at the minimum weight for my height and age. I don’t need to go any lower than that so I ate two meals today. Chorizo and egg tacos for brunch, and this evening a pound of Diezmillo steak. Sorry no pic of the steaks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. On my last blood test my total cholesterol count was 269. LDL (which is technically not a cholesterol) was 190. Triglycerides were 66. HDL was 66. Like Scott, my doctor is thrilled with my progress but also preaches low fat. He just doesn’t understand the significance of eating a high fat diet when you don’t eat carbohydrates. He also wants me on a statin but here’s why I will not go on a statin. They don’t do anything for your health. Absolutely nothing. If you have had a heart attack they may provide some benefit according to a carnivore cardiologist I listened to but they can only extend your life by 3-5 days. Sorry but that’s just not worth the side affects of that drug. Now let’s look at LDL. High LDL does not cause or contribute to cardiovascular disease. There has never been any evidence to prove otherwise. Now you didn’t post up your HDL and triglycerides. Those are the real indicators of cardiovascular risk. Ideally we want our Triglycerides to be less than 100 our HDL greater than 50. We then divide the triglycerides by the HDL to get our relative risk. We are looking for a number less than 2 and preferably less than 1.5. When you do the math on my ratio it comes out to a 1. I’ll take that all day long. I’m not the least bit concerned about my cholesterol because it’s normal on a carnivore diet because as we are using fat for fuel there is naturally going to be more cholesterol running around in the blood stream and that’s a good thing. I have a heart condition that appears to have been reversed by eating carnivore and my cardiologist whole heartedly supports my diet. He has taken me off of all my medications and says I’ve done more to heal myself than anything he could have done for me. He has also put me on a once a year visit just to see how I’m doing. You can do what you want Gary it’s totally up to you but I would like to encourage you to not fear the the fat. It’s what our lifestyle is all about. I will also add, do not let your doctor pressure you into doing something that you don’t want to do. This is your life and your health and you are in charge. Make informed decisions. Good luck Gary and welcome to Carnivore Talk.

  16. I was listening to a video from Dr. Chaffee today about cholesterol and he was saying that it was perfectly natural for the LDL to go up because when we became fat adapted and our bodies start using fat (ketones) for fuel there will have to be more LDL circulating in our blood to provide that energy source. 17. Ok brother you’re gonna have to tell me more about this. I fish mainly for catfish but I never heard of boiling it and dipping it in butter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I’m a firm believer that everyone has a different physiology so I don’t really care for the blanket statements that say something is definitive for each and every one of us. Something like this video is more of a guideline on what could happen for some people in my opinion and I wish that would be emphasized in these kinds of videos. The cautionary message I get from this is that if a person is struggling with their diet, if they are still experiencing metabolic problems or struggling with weight loss this is one area they should look at that may be the problem. It sounds like you’ve got a really good handle on your diet and goals. I think you’re doing great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Ate twice today. Fixed chorizo and eggs this morning and smoked a forequarter of a lamb all day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. We eat egg salad, deviled eggs, chicken salad and tuna salad quite frequently. You can make a clean Mayo made with butter. Look up Chris Cooking Nashville in utube. He has a good butter Mayo recipe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Calf fries are a staple for us during round ups. I’m one of the castraters. Uterus I have not tried. I haven’t eaten fish eyes but I my mother would. She learned to eat the whole fish head including the eyes when the family was stationed in Japan. Before my time though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Again, your energy is low because you are still adapting and you may need to increase your fat intake essentially after just having a baby and breast feeding. That’s a big hit on a woman. Your skin issue can be healed by carnivore. As with all healing it takes time. From everything I’ve learned about skin issues they are an autoimmune disorder that is a direct result of inflammation. How long do you need to eat carnivore??? For the rest of your life. This is not a diet but a lifestyle. It’s not something that just treats the symptoms like a pill but it cures the issue through nutrition by making the body metabolically heathy and therefore able to defend itself against disease. To keep that body metabolically healthy you have to keep it properly nourished. If you go back to eating the way you did that caused your illness before then you’ll revert back to it again. Now that doesn’t mean that you really need to be as strict as carnivore forever but you will need to find the food that was causing the inflammation to begin with and abstain from it forever. Check out Mikala Peterson and what she had to go through to discover what was literally killing her. It really shows how this is an elimination diet. We as carnivores do not believe that eating is all about balance unless you are talking about balancing fat to protein ratios and the different kinds of meats we eat. Don’t be surprised if you find out that your autoimmune issues are due to your sweets that you love. More than likely though it’s possibly due to seed oils in your diet.
