If I were a world class athlete I think i could debate this a tad bit better.
I am getting to the above average mark for the average 56 year old. Meat and fat will serve me just fine and provide all the energy I need, both for the day to day as well as my lifting/walking/working out. I have not, nor do I anticipate taking things to that level.
However, since I have not gotten crazy-go-get'em energy from meats and fats I have developed a steady energy that lasts all day for me now.
I don't see crazy bounce off the wall energy just showing up anytime soon.
I am not saying fat can't be the answer but I am saying I see the theory and based on me, I can see where it could work. But also based on me I am not physically challenging the limitations of fat.
I know one person who uses a couple sweet potatoes on Thursdays before he does what I consider a long a pretty much grueling workout on Fridays and the rest of the week strict carnivore. As soon as this topic popped a few weeks ago I have looked for him in the gym for some insight.
Still a very interesting topic for me.

I have read it both ways, but I think that lands on the intensity and duration of the exercise more so than the different fuel sources.
A person pushing themselves to their maximum effort every session could answer that question better than me as my exercising, lifting and walking is effective but let's just say 'I don't leave it all on the field every time out'.
The paper and log analogy is spot on. The paper will always burn faster and possibly hotter for a brief moment and once the log is burning the steady burn and the hot coals remain constant unless a piece breaks off and there may be a spurt of burn/flame but nothing like the spike of the paper.
If I were a super-duper athlete doing super-duper work, I can see the need for that spurt of energy to get thru the workout. What I see as being the true advantage of the scenario is that when the paper flames up and is gone the steadiness of the fire from the log remains constant. it is not like the fire dims or goes out without the continual adding of the paper. If that makes any sense at all.
If at any point my workouts ramp to the point I am at an energy deficit I could see this as an option. The workouts and the loads are ever increasing but the "log" is holding me just fine right now. LOL
    Still a very interesting topic.

As expected. Carbs provide a lot of instantly available energy. Fat/ketones provide a steady stream of sustained energy. Consuming carbs is like throwing crumpled up newpaper into a fire. It instantly burns releasing energy. Eating fat is like throwing a log on that fire. The fire is going to keep burning for hours and is guaranteed not to go out.
What I have heard is that yes, you will see a performance hit in the gym. But over time, as you become more and more fat adapted, you will eventually get back to those performance markers you were hitting previously. But it won't happen overnight, and it might even take a year.

So let's start by describing your symptoms. Where is the rash? Is it all over or concentrated on certain parts of your body? Does it itch?
I can understand why you might not be sure which it is, a keto rash or a histamine intolerance, since symptoms of the two can be similar.
I wouldn't do this. Like @Geezy said, fat is your energy. I would still aim for 70% of your calories coming from fat and 30% coming from protein (this is acheived by basically eat 1g of fat for every 1g of protein). According to Dr. Boz, on variant of a Keto rash in an inflammation caused by little "critters" living in your skin that love glucose. If you are not eating enough fat, then your body will be working overtime to convert protein into glucose through a process called gluconeogenesis. It's as if you are eating carbs. They were initially starved when you started keto, but when you decided to lower the fat, your glucose production may have went up, and these little guys got excited and started multiplying. I'm not sure if I buy that, but she makes it make sense.

If you are actively losing weight and burning your body fat, these could actually have toxins or histamines stored in them, which are being released into your blood stream.
Again, where is the rash? Centrally located? Or all over?
Some thoughts on how to test this yourself include adding back in 50-100 carbs a day for the next 2 weeks by adding fruit. This is called an "animal-based" carnivore diet (for whatever reason, lol). But STILL EAT the eggs, steak, and whatever else you have been eating. If it's keto rash, symptoms should alleviate and you can then try again with cutting the plants out. If it's histamines I wouldn't expect any changes.
For keto rash, topical steroids will help for itching and oral antibiotics with help with inflammation.
To test for histamines, aim for the freshest meat possible, straight from the butcher. Grocery store meat will have been hung and aged for weeks before packaging. Avoid jerky, canned meats, etc.
For histamines, an antihistamine will help alleviate the itch.
So if antihistamines help, your problem leans towards histamine intolerance. If hydrocortisone cream and an antibiotic help, then it's more likely keto rash.

The newest improvements Ive just noted is the ability easily bend over and pick stuff up, squat down and easily get up, and to balance on one leg. Balance is not 100% quite yet but huge improvements when I think back to January of this year.

Hi Geezy. it is very nice to meet you and thank you for sharing. I never though of hunting animal by myself but it does sound really cool though.
Yes, coordinating with local butcher sounds like the best option for me. I think the most important thing to be a good neighbor with local butcher and ask them if they can spare and sell organs like liver, kidneys, and hearts for me and visiting them as often as possible so they can keep their refrigerator out of products that other customers usually not get.

Welcome to Carnivore Talk Kuro. I’m glad you joined us.
I eat organ meats but you are right, many in America don’t and will consider you weird for doing so. We do have some cultures in the US that indulge in eating organs, such as our Hispanic culture, but most don’t.
If you can find a good Mexican meat market or Cariceria you might be able to get some of what you’re looking for.
I raise most of my own meat and I hunt a lot so I get my organ meats from those animals that I raise and hunt. You might go to a butcher shop and ask them to save some organs for you from the next animal they process.

Depending on what your diet was before carnivore it could be oxalate dumping. If you were a big vegetable eater in the past your body could be trying to get the oxalates out of your body. Then again it may be histamine reaction. It’s hard to say. The way to find out would be to change your source of beef. Find a butcher or store that sources its beef from local farmers if you can. While you can’t always trust the labeling, try to find beef that is labeled as organic, grass finished. Histamine intolerance comes from beef that has been aged so in your case the fresher the better. while most people don’t have any issues with eating beef from Wally World is best to remember that much of their beef is imported from other countries, especially the ground beef found in tubes. In one package of ground beef there may be a mixture of ten different cows in it. Thats not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself but it may contribute to histamine intolerance.
I wish I had better advice for you but not having any real experience with it I can only go by what I’ve read. Give it time and good luck.
Btw, be careful about reducing your fat intake as that is your only source of energy.

I’ve been seeing many of those click bait posts on Utube here lately but it’s just that…click bait. Many people don’t really understand carnivore. Carnivore is not a true zero carb diet. There is no such thing as even eating all fat and protein you will still get some carbs. Even if you intentionally eat a few carby items now and then it doesn’t mean you aren’t carnivore. Even the lion and the wolf will eat grass occasionally.
Carnivore is about providing your body with the optimal food to get the optimal nutrition that it runs best on and that’s animal fats and proteins. If one is eating a diet that consists primarily of those two items I think they could still be considered carnivore. Some purists might disagree and that’s their prerogative to do so but that wouldn’t make them right, only dogmatic.

That’s the beauty of this lifestyle, we can mold it into what works best for each of us as individuals.
For me and my addictive tendencies I had to go cold turkey but for those with more discipline it’s probably best if they ease into it. Congratulations on your success so far and good luck on the rest of your journey.

So I guess I am going more a ketovore route for the first 3 weeks to a month to first kick my sugar addiction. I for sure want to do carnivore, but I want to make sure I succeed and I actually have been craving veggies more than sugar this first week and I have been giving in to them. Green beans, cabbage and mushrooms are the extent of it but I ate them a lot more then I had planned. I decided I would go ahead and do ketovore for a few weeks, as keto is more what I have done in the past and it seems like my body has no issues dropping the sugar. I feel very fortunate that I don't get the horrible withdraw symptoms a lot of people get when starting low carb diets.
I did carnivore for about 6 weeks almost a year ago and I lost a lot of weight fast and felt good, but I gave in too fast and fell off the wagon very badly. I have been eating so much sugary processed crap I am surprised I didn't have serious issues as I am a type 2 diabetic. I think what saved me is I went from 420 lbs to 240 lbs over a couple years and I was actually down to 15% body fat, probably my lowest body fat since I was 10 years old. Over those couple of years I exercised a lot (you have a lot of free time in prison) and my diabetes completely went away. This last year my A1C peaked at 7.8 which is not good, but not near as bad as it should have been for my weight and what I was consuming.
I dropped 5lbs this first week and my legs are already no longer swollen and the muscle definition has come back in my calves. Down to 317, my first goal is to get below 300 and start jogging again. I hate running with a passion, but man it felt so good when you were done with a jog and knew you actually did something.
