How I Cured My Ulcerative Colitis!

I was an ulcerative colitis sufferer for around 10 years. I was always told by my medical professionals that the cause of ulcerative colitis is unknown, and that there is no cure, and that one must manage the disease with prescription medications for the rest of their life. It was even suggested that I have my colon removed surgically. I was told "diet has nothing to do with it" and that I can continue eating anything I want. Now I know that sentence should have continued with "...as long as you keep taking these pills that I'm prescribing to you." Things finally came to a head, and I had to do my own research, and now I am 5 years off my meds and there is no longer any trace of the disease. I cured ulcerative colitis! Here's how.

This is actually the accomplishment that I am most proud of. The one thing that was destroying my life that I did completely resolve. Cured the "incurable". And then the views are "meh", lol.

My deteriorating health all goes back to coffee.

Coffee -> Colitis -> Mesalamine (prescription drug) -> Mesalamine destroys kidneys -> Stage 4CKD -> High triglycerides -> Niacin (for trigs) -> Rhabdomyolisis (from Niacin)-> inching closer to stage 5 CKD.

    Kinda sucks.

Bob, thank you for posting this. This is something that I have been dealing with for years. They put me on medication, and I noticed within 24 hrs. of the first meds I had severe heart palpitations. I did not have this before, I immediately took myself off of them, and actually through the bottle away. Two days later I was watching the news, and they had a recall of the medication Nationwide because people were having heart attacks from this medication. I was also told like you, that diet did not affect it, but when I went away from certain foods, I got better. I tested it and when I went back, even lightly to those foods, it came back. Other foods also were a contributor, I slowly started to eliminate certain foods in my diet and have gotten much better. I have been one, I don't just listen and do as much of our society does, just because certain people in our government say it is so, does not mean it is so. People need to be diligent and check and research thing's out. For me that Is what I have done. This lifestyle makes a lot of sense. I have always had low blood sugar, fast metabolism and people have always told me keep candy or something in your pocket or with you if it goes down, I always thought was stupid to be honest. I would run and get something that had the quickest protein I could find to bring it back up, like a hamburger or steak, something like that. It would work, every time. It always made me wonder, because of my own experience with this issue. So, eating more meat products, I feel much better, and have felt clearer and more focused than I have before, and lighter too...lol   Since starting this, I have noticed that tummy issues are much calmer, though I am having one issue that I know will subside in time.

Isn't it frustrating? There's so many of us UC sufferers that either calmed our symptoms, cured them, or put them into remission with changes to our diet, and they will still insist that diet has nothing to do with it.

I used to mock those that though the food and pharmaceutical industries wanted to keep you fat and sick and called them conspiracy theorists. But after years and years of being let down by the medical system and having to do my own research and be my own advocate, I'm now proudly one of these outspoken "conspiracy theorists" myself, lol 😄

    • We always try and find any clearance meat deals and either cook it up right away or freeze it. Never had an issue. Sometimes we can get up to 60% off @ Wally World, And YES, There is nothing wrong with meat from Walmart, other than their high original pricing, because That is not a bargain in our area.  Our best find ever was an 11 1/2 pound brisket for $6.63 total. That's what they tagged it at, so we bought it and it was one of the best tasting briskets ever. Now i always check all the briskets looking for another "once in a lifetime" find 🤣
    • I do not have a gallbladder either. Removed in 1983 at the age of 22. My doctor at the time thought it was strange for someone so young. After the removal I dealt with diarrhea after eating greasy foods. That lasted for several years and then slowly went away. now my digestion seems to work just fine. Never constipated on Carnivore. Make sure you are getting plenty of animal fat, plus magnesium. Magnesium citrate will work for sure. I will say I was a little backed up about 3 weeks ago BUT that was do to my consumption of some cough syrup and about a dozen sugar free cough drops over a 3 day period. After I dropped the meds everything went back to normal. I found that strange how cough meds affected my system now being a carnivore.
    • Thank you so much for your thorough and thoughtful responses! I really appreciate the time you took to explain everything in such detail. The higher LDL levels don’t concern me as much anymore, especially after reading your insights, but I do agree that focusing on improving triglycerides is a good next step. Regarding the triglycerides, I don’t think I’ve been overeating. My diet has been pretty strict and consistent: I usually stick to a simple menu of 4 eggs, 60 grams of bacon, and about 300 grams of ground beef with some cheese most days, with measured butter to hit around 1700 to 1800 kcal. So, I think the idea that the higher triglycerides might be related to weight loss makes a lot of sense to me as well + missing the other healthy foods. I’ve tried various organ meats, but unfortunately, I really dislike the taste, so that's been a bit of a challenge. I also don't particularly care for fish, so that’s not ideal either for a carnivore diet. That being said, I’ve bought omega supplements for the omega oils and looking for the others, and I'll start incorporating a bit more fiber and mix up my meat choices — less beef every day (against inflammation) and more fatty chicken, as you suggested and more fish. I’ll get my blood work done in 1 or 2 months to see where things stand. Thanks again for all your advice, it’s been really helpful!
    • Thanks for vote of confidence.
    • Geezy, that is some good eating, I am waiting for a sale as well on them.🥰
