What about Calcium and Potassium?
Orweller replied to 5 Smooth Stones's topic in Greetings and Introductions
That's because I grew up by the North Sea. Fish markets galore. I make do with the resources I have. 40 days into carnivore and still going strong. Salmon from the store but I make sure it is Alaskan. -
What about Calcium and Potassium?
Orweller replied to 5 Smooth Stones's topic in Greetings and Introductions
It's the sea food that I find lacking here in (north west) Ohio, where is the mackerel, herring, eel, where are the fish markets other than getting my fish in a box? It would mean going to a restaurant or eat salmon once again. I was spoiled all those years in a coast town by the sea. I did find a good braunschweiger for my liver needs. Also plenty of venison from my hunting friends. I try not to consume too much cheese or yoghurt at the same time. Thanks for the reply. -
What about Calcium and Potassium?
Orweller replied to 5 Smooth Stones's topic in Greetings and Introductions
It's for me vitamins and protein shakes over the years I fear have done their damage. No only target supplementation for me. My remaining concerns on this diet are calcium, vitamin E, vitamin A. Not highly concerned, but watching it. -

First of, avocado is amazing. I think both macadamia nuts and avocado can be useful as a supplement. So long as your body responds favorably to it. For some nuts still antagonizes or encourages inflammation. The question really is, whether you have an auto-immune condition, etc. If you don't, a "dirty" carnivore diet can do no harm, it still beats the standard American diet, or average western diet by miles. Only be a purist if you have to, if you indeed have an extreme auto-immune response to plant based foods.

I think the rules for supplement is, don't take multi-vitamins. Target your needs with specific vitamins that you lack in your diet, no more. Some vitamins can turn toxic. And then we have to consider the quality of such vitamins, bio-availability, etc. Food tends to do the thinking for you. -

Government in health has never showed any improvement. And yes, slippery slope. -
What Did You Eat Today?
Orweller replied to Geezy's topic in Carnivore, Meat-based Keto, & Ketovore Support
Agreed. But I am a moron when it comes to cooking. I have spend more time in the kitchen than ever. But you know what? I don't mind it. It feels better, more satisfying to prepare your own food. And I do meal prepping, but then I leave a mess that goes with it haha. I am going to learn how to grill when the summer comes. Don't have that Texas blood in me, nor American for that matter lol.- 1,369 replies

Japanese culture for ya. They've always had harsh guidelines for employment, insurance etc. I think they don't want the crisis we have here in the US. Healthcare that financially ruins you, and preys on you, and lies on you, while over saturated with the sickest people in the world, the US. -

I'm gonna do this egg and butter thing, so simple yet I didn't think of it. Carnivore forces one to get creative because all the food you eat is prepared in the kitchen. Normally that would be a pop tart on the way out.- 1,369 replies

What Did You Eat Today?
Orweller replied to Geezy's topic in Carnivore, Meat-based Keto, & Ketovore Support
Moderation it is then. My wife made me a keto soup with several greens in it. I couldn't refuse because it was a token of support. And though delicious, a fatty and meaty soup, the bloat and gas came back in the morning. I felt a clear response, even though it was low carb.- 1,369 replies

I'll stick with stevia, since it is actually cheaper and you can actually taste it. All the other natural sweeteners were expensive, and quite frankly, you couldn't really taste them. It's only for my coffee that I use it. 1 packet of stevia per cup, dash of salt, tbsp of butter, and tbsp of heavy cream. Heaven in a cup I tell ya!- 1,369 replies

I am sure they both can cause an insulin raise, spike? depends on whether you have insulin resistance, etc. Stevia does have more flavor, is also sweeter, and is actually carb free, while allulose not entirely. I see no harm in either, in small amounts.- 1,369 replies

I have my coffee. We need that one vice. Makes no sense to worry about it. Carnivore is restrictive enough. Think of all the junk you're not eating. I do limit my intake no more than 3 cups. And I think that's well within the range of health guidelines.

Yes, the two different perspectives of the two doctors do not contradict one another. I think 80 percent meat, 10 percent egg or dairy, and 10%: eat a carrot, or a stem of broccoli, half an apple, some garlic, etc as they are really good foods. Unless of course we're dealing with auto immune response, or unless we're attempting to roll back that insulin resistance; that would be for each of us, specific. I do still use myfitnesspal as it gives me a lot of insight. Not only for my eight, but also my macros.

Exactly a month into carnivore diet. Went from 148lbs to 142lbs. Leaned out a bit. Learned so much about my habits and processed foods and life without them. I will continue this another month, though I like the idea of dirty carnivore/ketovore/paleovore. But for now I'll add another 30 days of carnivore and see where I land. Have a good 2024.

I'm gaining weight!

It's alright if you're goals continuously change so long they are in the same direction. And as long we don't sell ourselves short. -

Orweller replied to Steven2023's topic in Carnivore, Meat-based Keto, & Ketovore Support
You won't know until you get there. You never know what you're capable of when you get there. 10 pounds lighter already makes you a different person. Having a weight-loss goal is not a burden, it's a challenge, and an opportunity. Imagine being 185. But somehow you are 205, wouldn't that still be wonderful? -
I'm gaining weight!
Orweller replied to Steven2023's topic in Carnivore, Meat-based Keto, & Ketovore Support
I hear a lot of people mentioning their high school weight. At that age we also had healthy muscle development, and it's likely that we had still a quite active life and somewhat normal diet. I often mention muscle, but it's aan absolute must to keep training muscles with weights. They control your blood sugar, they help retain bone density, impacts sleep quality, improve mood, increase mobility, etc. If one eats for health one must also act for health. Losing weight is just a minor consequence of going to the gym, it's all those invisible things that help a diet such as keto or carnivore. I say this as somebody who once walked with a cane. Take care of your muscles and thus your bones, especially after 40. I cannot stress this enough. It's been a life long battle for me, since I have Ankylosing Spondylitis, a quite debilitating form of Arthritis. I am in the good shape that I am by 30 years of experimenting and being health focused, I had no other choice. I have been on so many different diets, etc. It's why I am so impressed with carnivore. I do not come form an unhealthy lifestyle, always disciplined, and on healthy weight. Even then, I am also approaching my army weight. -

High school weight is in most cases an excellent place to be. As we mostly gain the weight after high school. -
