I touched a donut
We went to a Harri Teeter to do some meat shopping. My wife was in line at customer service and I pushed our basket to get out of the way of traffic. I landed right beside an end cap donut/sweet cake/muffin display. The marketing/strategy guy/gal was spot on because I think over half the carts that came thru the door hit that end cap. I'm not sure I was disgusted but I did think that use to be me. No craving or anything like that but I did think about how the placement helped make the sale. Which to me, means a lot of the bad things we ate are just habit and habit-forming. Scott

Congrats. I too eased out of the sugars easily as well. My Mountain Dew and Little Debbie cake every morning was somewhere between ritual and religion. LOL So far the only time similar to yours was some black beans and corn. I would have thought it would have been one of the sugars like the soft drinks or the sweet cakes or maybe even the ice cream. Nope. Black beans and corn. I have not tracked calories since I started. I might try it just to see where I'm at just to know. Again, congrats on the first two weeks. Scott

Quick recap. 90+ days in and I stopped pain and inflammation medicine in May. No issues. I lost 54lbs thus far. My daily/across the board energy levels are higher than they have been in a lot of years. I'm getting to the gym and walking on my days off. I noticed sort of early on I was sleeping much better but maybe the big difference is when I wake up it is like a switch. Bam, eyes open ready to go immediately. Which leads to some weirdness. I was in the military and one of the things learned in the military is to sleep when you can. I can remember a 15-minute power nap feeling like an 8-hour snooze fest. You also learned to tune a lot out. I slept in a torpedo room on a nuclear-powered sub and slept thru firing torpedoes. I slept thru Hurricane Fran and walked outside to a different planet. My wife can vacuum in the bedroom, and I won't be bothered. But with that said, since those military days all you have to do is say my name and I pop tall ready to go. Since my 20's I have been able to sleep thru anything except my name. Everything the same after carnivore except we had a dog emergency the other night and my wife was yelling my name from the living room, and I never heard it. She came to the door and did the same/ She said I never flinched. The next night she had to actually touch me to wake me up. I have been sleeping really well since the switch, but I didn't know I was a couple hairs away from a coma. LOL. I am not complaining but do find it weird. On the opposite end. I grew up where if it landed on your plate, you ate it. Period. And with that, I had an uncle that if he saw you eat fat off a steak he would just about heave. I remember saying, "Don't look at my plate". My Pops gave me a 'pops lesson' with a pop to the head. Not because I was wrong and he agreed I was not wrong. That is the plan. I read some studies from the 50's when carnivore was called 'a meat only' diet. (maybe the current name is a better catch phrase). The MS community saw a lot of improvements with red meat and water. No gimmes, and no cheats, only red meat and water. I do notice a difference between the red meat days and the non-red meat days. I have to think it lies along the lines of fat content a bit but not totally sure. Just for my own individual story I plan to go much heavier on the red meat but not totally abandoning the chicken and pork (especially the pork). But the first 90 days was more than amazing. So much so, if you posted it and I had yet to experience it, I would question your honesty. (nay-sayer by heart). The more I read and the more I watch I am starting to feel like one of the many. I had had some really loose stools the past few weeks and really couldn't pinpoint the cause. My best guess is I was over doing the butter a bit when cooking but not sure. Other than occasional shredded cheese I have not done any dairy. When I first started I drank some chocolate milk and the stool was bad enough and smelled bad enough to support the myths around red meat staying your system for months on end. Like, I had to be rotting from the inside out. That bad. Milk sort of fell off the menu. This past week I drank a glass of milk on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. I locked up like Fort Knox. I didn't go from Tuesday til Saturday. Even after 90 days I am still trying to figure things out. Scott- My leg and foot cramps have mysteriously disappeared
I have had cramps a couple times while sleeping this week (trying to sleep). I hit the mustard bottle and it relieves them rather quickly. I think mine came from lack of hydration. All three nights this week were rough. Equipment that has not failed in years and years failed all three nights. It was like getting to the plant, taking a deep breath and holding it for 13 hours. It was non-stop all three nights. Each day I struggled with cramps while trying to sleep. My best guess is I was simply to busy to hydrate. Bob, hopefully you figure out the cause because waking up with muscles in a know is no fun. Good luck. Scott- Calorie Counter? What’s Your Optimal Number?
Interesting read. Not being a computer guy I have no idea why this is being underlined as I type. I'm at that point that the weight is still falling off so I can only imagine I am in a calorie deficit of sorts. I'm not hungry at all so I feel like I should be in the ball park or maybe a little shy. At some point I think I will get to a weight where I need to 'count or watch' calories. I don't think I am anywhere near there now. I just eat once a day nd sometimes it feels like I am eating just to be eating. Definitely agree what you are eating plays the bigger role than how much or a certain amount. The donuts to ribeye comparison is spot on. Before I started carnivore every morning was a Mountain Dew, a Little Debbie double stack oatmeal cake, and a bacon, egg and cheese on a hamburger bun. I am sire I hit my daily calorie RDA before 6AM. At some point I will cross this bridge. Scott- What Did You Eat Today?

I had not had one since I started in May. Last weekend they did a cookout for us at work. I ate me chuck steak while the shift enjoyed the hotdogs off the grill. At the end of the shift there were a ton of leftovers and I ate a couple of the 'red hot dogs'. I had forgotten how good they tasted. it would not be a go to for me at this point but if 'out and about' it would not be the worst choice. Scott- most recent bloodwork/NMOSD-Devic's syndrome
I had read about waiting for a year. I have two infusions per year and blood work a few weeks out and a few weeks after. When I first started reading and watching videos on the positive affects of carnivore in the MS community I was absolutely blown away. Another 'who woulda thunk it?' for me. I read so many stories that were somewhere between miraculous and too good to be true. I'm somewhere between 'gotta give it time' and 'hopes at a higher level'. Probably more 'it has only been 90 days. I think 52 pounds and no pain medicine is way more than I would have ever expected and my story would be the one I read and said, "Really?". LOL As of late I am shifting a little more toward red meat but not totally abandoning other proteins. (Tonight was leg quarters on the smoker) Tomorrow night is rib eyes and shrimp for a little get together in the cabin. Babbling a bit, but the first 90 days was maybe a tad more red meat but all in all maybe half in half. I have been on the diet 90 days as of today. I had some immunoglobulin blood work done earlier in the week and the results just posted. My Immunoglobulin A numbers were still high at 388 (signs of infection and inflammation from an underlying illness) and my IM m numbers were low (51) which is actually improved from May. I have had nothing but the positives of the carnivore diet the first 90 days so there are zero complaints. I thought i would see a better number on the 'infections and inflammation' IMG a because I have not had to use any pain nor anti-inflammatory medicines since May. (Knocking on wood) I have not been sick since way early in the year. The IMG m number showed improvement, but I guess part of me was swinging for the fences. LOL My Vitamin D numbers jumped considerably to normal. I have been taking Vitamin D supplements for the longest and the numbers just lulled around really low. That is a plus. I think I am going to go with 'it has only been 90 days' and go from there. 52lbs and pain free within the first 90 days is not too shabby. There will be another set in November. Like with everything, time will tell. Scott- Cast iron
I'd season the pan again. You can do it with oil and your oven (youtube). I do mine in a firepit. Then it is important that the pans get 'gently' washed and dried. And never leave them soaking. Cast iron is very porous and will 'absorb'. After absorption there is flaking. I'm not sure on the affects of the flaking but I do know if we soaked one of my Grandma's cast pans we would most definitely have some health problems coming. Scott- Just started and going extreme
Yepper. I had to stumble upon this with the 70% grinds and then with the 60/40 and 50/50 I did myself there is enough, so it does not all cook out. I still add some bacon/butter to the grease and make a 'gravy of sorts'. Lots of fats but more importantly it tastes amazing. I'm going to try to add the bacon to the burger and check that out. It has to be good. My Pops use to say you could put three slices of bacon between two pieces of cardboard and at least one person would ask for seconds. Bacon has the power. I'm the same about the pork. I would not be happy giving that up. LOL When I eat bacon, it is with eggs and butter so I may be hiding the pork effect. But if we have pork chops or cook butts/shoulders I can feel the difference. It has been a while since we did a pork belly so maybe that would tell me if it's the actual pork or the lack of fat with certain pork. When we do thighs or quarters, I'm already a big fan of the skin, but can feel the difference from chicken to the red meats. On Monday there were a lot of chuck steaks/Dever steaks that were passed over at the grocery store. Most all of them were marked down. These seemed particularly fatty and I am guessing that is why they were passed over. I'm thinking 'lucky me'. I'm all red meat for the next few days.
