Hunger is different
I hit the 45-pound loss this week (since May 8th). There have been a number of things that have amazed me thus far and maybe hunger, or the lack of hunger, is one of the bigger surprises. I can say I have actually been hungry only two times since starting. Not that it has been forever, but looking back I can where I just ate to be eating. I also thin with the high carbs and the trash I was eating actually caused hunger. And from there I guess cravings can arise. For me, no cravings and no hunger. This also includes a couple 48-hour fasts and eating one meal a day for the most part. Scott

What Did You Eat Today?
This is me. I do this, then that, on the grill and afterwards remember I was going to take pics to post. Most of what I cook on the grill is with wood and on occasion charcoal. Every so often I use my son's Traegar pellet type smoker. Super nice grill. I put a rack full of wings on Friday night. They were coming along great and with maybe 20 minutes to go I seen a boat load of smoke. It had a grease fire in the bottom. I didn't check it prior to starting and my son had not cleaned it in quite some time. When I tried to open the lid the flames rolled out. I had to wait for it to die out. The tips of the wings went way passed done on to the land of the charred. Sort of glad I didn't take a picture of that hot mess (no pun intended). S

Hunger is different
A few weeks in I made some hamburger. By the time I finished they were at best 60/40, maybe even 50/50. They were awesome. I'm planning to make another batch this weekend along with another batch of the beef tallow. I'm going to lean toward the red meats a fat for a stretch maybe as my own little experiment. Tonight, it was honking salmon filet with a handful of shrimp in butter. Scott

The carnivore diet is a big experiment for me and now there are a lot of little experiments along the way. When I first started we did some heavy shopping to stock up. I bought a bunch of red meats and some fatty cuts to start. The weight peeled off like nothing I ever imagined. Then as time went along, I bought two huge packs of pork chops and leg quarters. I cooked them all and ate them over a three-four-day period as it was easy and convenient while doing shift work. On the chicken and pork with not a lot of fat with the pork chops my weight sort of planed off. This past weekend my son cooked a huge rib roast. I ate a 1+ inch slab on Sunday night and bathed it in butter. On Monday morning I got a really good workout in the gym for about 45 minutes and then walked just shy of 4 miles. When I got home, I ate another slab, maybe 3/4", lots of fat as well. I added a couple scrambled eggs cooked in butter. I was out and about during the day and the most strenuous thing I did was get the freon right in my wife's Tahoe. For supper, I had another 1+ inch prime rib roast 'slab'. This one had a nice tail piece of fat. I woke up Monday morning, stepped on the scale and had dropped over 5lbs from Sunday morning to Tuesday morning. The kicker is I felt like I ate like a horse. Crazy how that works. I have read that once fat adaptive the body uses the fat in our food for energy and then easily transitions to using body fat for energy. I wonder if I was bouncing around the 'fat adapted' line when I upped the fat content over the previous week or so. Not sure. Scott

Nuts and nut butters
I'm sure you want be kicked out of the club. LOL I'm brand new and thus far my approach has been 'you do you and I will do me'. I think whatever plan works for you is the best plan. I'm straight meats thus far (maybe 65 days or so) and have not really had any urges. I feel lucky with that. Scott

Sometimes the 'wobbly' is a sign to eat. For me, it was I found my electrolytes were not up to par. I didn't really read the instructions but pretty much dove right into carnivore. I tried some of the pre-made electrolyte drinks, but they tasted horrible to me. I made a homemade electrolyte solution that also tasted 'not so good'. Now, I use the electrolyte solution and slat my food to taste. Since then, I have been actually hungry only twice in just over 60 days. I basically eat 1 meal a day, occasionally two, but I have also done a couple 48-hour fasts. My 'wobblies' were more to do with electrolytes than eating. Scott

Welcome. I'm about 60 days in myself so pretty much really new to the community. As you add the meats and fats start ditching the carbs and sugars. I sort of went in head first without much of a plan. There can be a systematic approach and I am sure that can be just as successful. Good luck. This is a great place to stop by. Scott

Yep. I gave my spiel at work the other day as the weight loss is really noticeable. I started the conversation, "On May 8th.....and finished with 42lbs at about 60 days". Hs first response was. "So, you are saying I should do the carnivore diet and it will work for me?" I was like NO! NO! NO! You read and learn to see if it fits you and then you give it a try. I would never say 'my results will be your results'. I think some watch the youtube video and then drink the Kool-Aid. And sometimes that miracle is just not there. Scott

I guess I find it hard to "just drink the Kool-Aid" regardless of the topic and totally regardless of my personal views. I am learning to be pro-carnivore from personal experience. Do I still doubt some of the claims I read and especially the videos I watch? Absolutely. As posted in another thread I have bloodwork coming that will tell me a lot of things about my personal path down the carnivore trail. I have a twofold expectation plan. One, if the numbers are much better than the last 6 years than I might have to sip the Kool-Aid. If they are not, or only minimally better, then I have only been on the diet for 90 days (at that point). I can't expect 90 days of one thing to completely cleanse the last 35 years of a dumpster diet and a trash lifestyle. I get more bloodwork 90 days later. As most things we do, time will tell. Scott

Cholesterol
There is a lot of research (as new as 2023/204) where the "Bad" cholesterol number is not as "bad" as once thought. The newest information suggests it is the ratio between the "good and the bad" that carry the health risks. An example would be a good number of "100" and a bad number of "400" would be 4:1 and that is a concern. But if the bad number is "300" and the good number is "100" there is less of a concern and the 200:100 ration (2:1) even better. I'm interested in this as well. I started a little over 60 days ago and have some bloodwork scheduled for later in the month (shooting for 90 days in) and then normal blood work in another 90 days when my infusion is due. My interests are peaked because.......back in 2018 I was put on a statin for cholesterol. After a week I started developing odd symptoms/medical issues. The odds/ coincidence was the four biggest complaints I was having were four of the top five 'known side effects" of that particular statin. I stopped the statin but a few days later they had not passed nor worked themselves out or, so I thought. They actually worsened and then on Labor Day morning I woke up as blind as a bat. Everything was dark gray. Freaked me out. It took some four months of blood work, MRI's, spinal taps. visual evoke testing, and then all of that all over again to determine I had an auto-immune disease called NMOSD (neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder or Devic's). I'm not a medical professional by any means, nor any stretch, but I was fine one week, took some new medicine and was almost knocked in the head. As the Neuroscience Center at Duke University figured me out and got me on medicines/infusions all has been better. Each time the cholesterol conversation comes up I feel like the treatment for one thing was the trigger for another and the 'another' was life threatening. I am eager to see if my immuno-panel changes with the 90 days of carnivore, but I am also interested to see where the cholesterol numbers land. Thus far I have lost 42lbs. with carnivore, a moderate workout plan, walking as much as 12-hour shift work allows and occasional fasting. I can't see one thing being the factor but a combination of things, maybe even a sequence of events. Started carnivore-started walking and working out-lost 42lbs-energy level up and overall, feel better/more energetic than before. May even be considered better life choices, but again, I am not a medical professional. LOL Scott

I always wonder how controlled these types of studies are conducted. Without 'true control' there are other factors that could sway the numbers to say just about anything. Did one of these guys exercise more than the other? Did one start off fifty pounds overweight? Maybe one was 30 and the other was 50? Too many variables. As said before, I am a doubter by nature. I would rather be on a board similar to this or engage with an individual vs. 'studies'. I always fear there is the hidden agenda. I am just getting into the carnivore community, and I am reading and seeing/experience things that are amazing. The kicker for me is that two doctors from the same school, who read the same books, can have totally different opinions, with both having studies that proof their views. And usually it ends with, "Sponsored by...." which is the hidden agendas that fuel my doubt. Scott

Hello everyone! New here. Terrible Anxiety
I went over 60 days this week. So far, I'm only seeing the positives. Weight loss, off pain/anti-inflammation medicines for NMOSD (Devic's) and energy I have not seen in years. I do feel like when I wake up I'm immediately fully alert and ready to go. I don't have the drag myself out of bed and make my way to the bathroom feel, it is like eyes open and go. I do sleep better now. However, I don't feel the 'mental clarity' and 'laser focus' that I read others have experienced. Zero expertise on the subject but from what I read the "mental' type benefits take longer for a lot of people. Best of luck and hopefully you find your plan. Scott

so... when do benefits appear?
Yep, I had some benefits within the first few days and first few weeks. So it was a bit easier to keep going. My point was all my benefits were physical and easily seen. The one thing I have read about is the mental clarity and I have not seen that at all, other than when I wake up. But I'm sleeping better as well. I would think the mental type benefits would take longer and maybe even need to be coupled with other medical stuff. As I read about anything it is a huge turn-off for me when this one thing is the 'end all-be all, miracle cure'. If you take this one pill you will have big muscles, a flat stomach, a longer wee-wee that is as big around as a soup can by tomorrow morning. I doubt there is no one thing that fixes everything. Hopefully you find some benefits soon and can stick it out for a stretch to see if it works for you. I'm a 60 days. I might wake up tomorrow and decide I have travelled as far down this road as I wanted and move on.....but going in I didn't have miracle cures in mind. Best of luck and hope you find your plan.

so... when do benefits appear?
I was fat when I started on May 8th and have lost 40lbs but still fat. The physical change can be fairly evident from the beginning. My first big surprise was that having NMO/Devic's (just about like MS) I have taken some pain medication and somewhat regular anti-inflammatory medicine. As I was reading about the anti-inflammatory effects of the diet I remembered I hadn't taken my medicine that week nor did I need it. The following week the same. Now it has been 6+ weeks without medication. I didn't follow directions very well (actually didn't bother to find out) and I missed with the electrolytes early on and felt sort of run down but not completely dragging, but slow. Once I adjusted the electrolyte/salt intake my energy level is far better than before May 8th. The above three are physical and can be seen and felt. For me, I have not found the 'brain clearing/super focused' clarity I have read about. For me that is one in the same as before. The closest thing is that I sleep better now and when I wake up I wake up and am ready to go. I don't have the slow-roll out of bed and drag to the start of the day. Not being a medical professional, actually nowhere near, I would say to give it some time. Best of luck. Scott

A Safe Harbor
I'm only 60 days into the diet and less than that on this forum. Thus far I have enjoyed the content and people tremendously. For me it has been a great exchange of information. Mostly because everyone is different and can get different results from doing the same thing and then seem to merge on the same path later. For the most part I have "t-totalled" the carnivore approach but have had a couple slips. And so far they haven't kicked me off the board for a dab oh Heinz 57. LOL Scott

What Did You Eat Today?
Boring day. Cooked up a mixed pan of chicken, shrimp and sausages and finished it off with three boiled eggs. I can be very boring with my meals, and especially when I am at work. I'm looking for basic sustenance and to push a turd (pardon the French). Burgers do look good. And bacon is the best. My Pops use to say if you put three slices of bacon on a cardboard sandwich.....someone would ask for another. LOL Scott

This was a youtube video not an actual movie. The gist was the heating of plastics to serve food. The 'microwave and tupper-ware' were examples/analogies/spoof he was using. He was listing the toxins released and their ill-effects to testosterone as well as the immune system. It may have been removed because I can't seem to find it. Scott

I'm looking for this video I watched on youtube but can't find it. It basically says the end of 'man' started with the invention of Tupper Ware and the Microwave. It was about the toxins that are released from plastics when heated. This video showed studies of the toxins having an adverse effect on male testosterone, thus the 'end of man'. Really interesting. Weak and no stamina
I hit a lull in energy around the second week (maybe 55 days in now). As said before, there are any number of things that factor, from past eating habits/lifestyle all the way to final adjustment/change in lifestyle. Everyone is different. I would suggest adjusting your electrolytes. I didn't read the directions and just jumped right in the carnivore fire. I tried some of the pre-made packets such as LMNT. I'm sure they worked but I didn't like the taste. I ended up making a homemade 'electrolyte mix' (youtube/google) and it made my drinks taste way salty. I then switched to using that same mix as my "salt" when seasoning my food. A couple days after I started adding the 'salt' my energy level picked up and since has been exceeding prior to starting the diet. I was on the 'trash and dumpster diet' for a long time. Since it is only 55 or so days, I am still calling in the carnivore diet and at some point, it will morph into a lifestyle. The process takes time, and I would also suggest 'just give it some time' as my results are not necessarily your results and vice-versa. Good luck. Scott

Nope didn't eat the onions but I am sure it was cooked in one of the cheaper seed/vegetable oils. I'm sure there was some language barrier stuff mixed in as well. I hadn't had spices (other than salt and pepper) in awhile so I was expecting an explosion soon after. It didn't seem to bother me at all. I'm rolling with 'no harm/no foul' on this one. However, I did tag on an extra mile this morning as an offering up...... Hope all have a great day and a Super Hoilday weekend. Scott

So today might be considered a cheat day. Maybe/Maybe not. My God-son just turned 16 and since he was a young guy his birthday has been at his favorite Mexican restaurant. I felt like I asked all the right questions and thought I ordered this meat platter the best way for me. It showed up and it was amazing. It tasted great and as I moved some of it around I thought I tasted onion and then the meat was piled on top of a pile of fried onions. I had started eating, was not going to return it and for sure was not going to waste it. I think I will tack on a mile tomorrow morning. LOL Scott

96 mile hike.
Where is the hike? I'm brand new to the diet so I am not sire after less than 2 months I could call it a lifestyle. But, I do feel like I am heading in that direction. The benefits keep piling up for me as well. Enjoy the benefits of others as well. Scott
