Sort of a funny but very real at the same time.

I posted earlier about using the protein drinks for the extra protein and found that they also boosted my hunger quite a bit. I have used that extra appetite to get in some more fat and protein a couple times per week. Maybe turning what could be a negative into a positive.

At first, I called it my affirmation that sugar can drive/signal hunger. I only used a little sugar but I think my body used it to signal for more which leads me to tonight's funny (very real but funny)

I have not had cravings since I started (got lucky) and I stepped away from carbs and sugars with relative ease (and I ate them by the buckets to get to well over 300lbs). Never had a craving as I walked thru the aisles at the grocery stores, even at the end caps that are designed to grab your attention. Zero cravings.

This afternoon it was over 100F when I got in the truck and night shift in the plant will not get below 100F til the early morning hours. I bought ice cream for my shift as a small gesture as they are performing well in this heat.

I walked by the freezer earlier and I now totally confused, as:

A: I have a sugar addiction I didn't see or realize, and the recent re-introduction has created this craving for that ice cream in the freezer, or...

B: I am so cheap it is killing me to know I paid $60 for ice cream and not eating any of it.

Things I ponder on night shift.

If I have a little refined sugar, I find myself wanting to look for ways to slip in a little more here and a little more there. I definitely think there is an addictive aspect to it.

This is in particular with glucose, as it goes straight to the cells. Something that's mostly fructose, like many fruits, do not trigger these impulses in me.

One, it made me hungrier and then that ice cram in the freezer was sort of calling me.

I ranked the effects.

Sugar in the diet can be more powerful that the satiety of meats. And the fact I am cheap as ell get out overpowers the both of them.

I think I wanted the ice cream because I chipped in $$$ and didn't have any.

Like most issues in our world the almighty dollar is the root cause. LOL

A couple weeks ago I added 1/4 scoop of equip caramel protein powder to an iced coffee, because I was exhausted and wanted the pick me up while watching a 2 hour class. The equip caramel has no sugar, but some stevia. I had cravings for sweets the rest of the day. I don't normally use anything with any sort of added "sweetener" and that little bit made a big difference for me. Definitely eye opening. Though, I can have a glass of champagne, and it doesn't cause me to crave sweets terribly.

The carnivore ice cream is definitely a go-to for me sometimes when I am craving a "treat".

Here in Finland we have a company that makes good keto ice cream. 2,9g carbs, 20 g fat. Erythritol does not bother me.

I had some canned herring last month, a few herring lunches with eggs. Hot days in the garden, nice.

But I noticed my BP got much higher for two weeks, only then I realised that there is lots of sugar hidden in all canned herring! My one and only sugar accident this year.

Blood ketones dropped for a while too.

I can not have any sugar, bread etc. I start slipping little by little, a croissant next week, then chocolate, french fries the following week... sugar is a drug for me.

I don't drink alcohol either because I get nothing out of a glass of wine or one beer. A case of beer is much better, or three bottles of red wine for cooking and dinner...

I can't decide if it sparked a sugar craving and I replaced it with steak or whether it simply made my hungry. Not sure.

Regardless, it sparked appetite and I have not had that in a while.

I never had like sugar cravings or withdrawals or any issue starting carnivore 'cold turkey' off the other foods. I guess looking back I didn't give sugar its just due. It is indeed a powerful substance.

This is good to know. I would have had no idea. I don't eat much canned herring. I do go through phases of sardine eating though.

I've vowed not to eat grains or refined sugar, except on a rare special occasion. I word it like that so I can still have a fruit once in a blue moon. Fruit doesn't send me on a bender like grains or candy will.

I am sure if I ate some bread or pasta or sweet cakes, I would turn into a fiend all over again. 11-12 grams of sugar over a couple days made me hungry. It feels like hunger but could possibly be a craving. Sugar requesting more sugar? I don't know.

When I first quit drinking, I had no issues being around others that were drinking or even going to bars/clubs. Then one night we were in a bar and as the waitress walked by there were long neck bottle of Budweiser on her tray. It would have been an excellent commercial. As she walked by, I could not only see the beads of condensation running down the bottle but I could just about read the label from distance. LOL It was calling me. I had to leave or I would have took a header right off the side of the 'proverbial wagon'.

This 11-12 grams of sugar over a couple days has shown me that sugar had a hold on me and maybe it still does (even though I made the switch with relative ease/no cravings).

Yeah, that's why I keep those off limits. Too easy to become addicted to them again.

Even if I do have some fruitage, I keep it to a bare minimum and only sporadically/occasionally. I don't want to flip the switch and lose my fat adaptation and have my body start preferring carbs by any mean.
