Sugar diet, huh? Yeah,we humans used to eat whatever we had access to, whenever that was possible. No diet plans or choices. Just survival. We have completely different problems now, everything being available for us western, lucky folks at all times. I wonder how long all this luxury will last? We are using up all resources in such a manner that who knows when things are forced to change? Meanwhile I will enjoy very low carbs and high animal fat to stay in good condition.

If you drive a car you have a basic understanding of traffic. Take a motorbike riding course and see how it feels. I have a professional teacher friend, sometimes people in their 60's start riding motorbikes. I still go to courses every now and then to sharpen up. Track practise days, slow riding, all kinds of practise. I had a bike break from 20 to 30 years. Then another break from 40 to 50. 62 now and my bike goes 200+ mph. I still prefer sportsbikes, I have had Harley and Guzzi cruisers, Honda enduros, 20+ bikes altogether, sometimes three different at once. I recommend motorbikes to everyone. Riding clears your mind in a way nothing else does. And it is very good exercise.

Correlation does not equal causation. A lot of these associations between meat and these diseases are from studying people who indulged in major poor habits and eating choices. They overate, ate junk food, smoked, drank alcohol, had that meat on a big fat bun covered in sugary sauces or seed oil based dressings.... but it's the meat that was the problem? Yeah, right [sarcasm]. Some of it is so easily explainable it should be an embarrassment to the medical and scientific community.... Just eat meat and your bowel movements become less frequent. It must be that meat rots in your colon, lol. Just eat meat and your red blood cells live longer, slightly raising your a1c. Meat must cause diabetes, lol.

When he cooks chicken thighs he will spend 45 minutes to an hour, or more, pulling the kin off, trimming them to where all the exact same size and then putting the skin back on to be cooked. He practices at home before he goes into one of the competitions. I struggle to see the point all the pre-work. Again, get it up on the grill and let's eat. Scott

I don't think I ever posted one of these in the first place so here goes I am 51 and have been trying to be healthy most of my adult life. I have been overweight or obese that entire time 5'8" 200-215#. I have tried atkins in the early 2000's, food tracking, juice fasting, HIIT, whole thirty, and whole food plant based, and finally omad. The fasting helped me to break through to a new weight loss plateau. All of the previous methods lost and regained the same 15#. I was finally down to 185 ish. I watched a lot of carnivore content before trying it full time February of 24. I don't have any local support for fasting, but the attitude has softened a bit about the carnivore. My family wants to loose weight, but they won't give up carbs %100. I have gotten them to be low carb most days, but they still want pancakes on Sundays. This past fall, probably around Thanksgiving, I don't remember the particulars, I just threw in the towel. I know I weighed 178 the morning of my colonoscopy in late October. I guess I was feeling afraid of being orthorexic. I was also overwhelmed with being a short order cook trying to accommodate everyone's tastes So found my self stepping on the scale to the tune of 205# sometime around Easter. Two days later I decided to "Stop the insanity" as Susan powder used to scream from the boob tube in the 80s. Today I weigh 194# My why is that I want to grow old without being trapped in the malady maintenance system. I watched my grandma and my MIL linger in a confused state for over a decade. I don't want any part of that. I want to be useful and connected right to the end. Not sitting or laying in my own mess waiting to die. I also want to be optimized. I feel like the only way to get people to get on board is to fully succeed. I can't win anyone over if I am constantly jumping ship. So every moment I can get, I listen to testimonials. I learned about this forum, by watching @Geezy tell his story on YouTube. I don't have any major illnesses, I've never had boils, T2D or high blood pressure. I have never been diagnosed with IBS but Im sure I had it whenever I ate seed oils. I am feeling a bit frustrated in my body as I approach menopause, but I don't think there is anything my doctor can do about that. I don't accept this as the new normal, when I know there is work that I could be doing to correct course. I plan to hit an ideal weight not for vanity, but that I can be a poster child worthy of the title carnivore! Happy Mother's Day everyone!

Bob and 3 others reacted to Scott F. for a post in a topic

Agreed. It is one thing to lead by example and an even better to share one's knowledge. I try not to make much about it when I get 'corrected' on my way of thinking/eating. I provide feedback when I can but if the wall has been built I don't spend an awful lot of time trying to break down barriers. I'm coming up on my semi-annual visit with my neurologist and our biggest conversation will be around my immunoglobulin numbers, my immune system and have I 'healed' enough to discontinue the infusions. My last bloodwork said I was really close to being 'normal'. I'm interested to see where we land. I have been lucky with the two Neurologists I see. Both are super-supportive of my carnivore efforts. My primary is pretty much 'if it is working for you, then it is working for me' approach. If you think the people in this group are anti-statins, you should listen to his spiel. If you didn't know him or have contact with him, you would think it was an all-out scare tactic. He is that much against them due to long term neurological and brain impact. I alternate visits between the two but my second is participating in research studies for MS at the Mayo clinic. The Mayo clinic is not onboard with the carnivore approach but the number of people in the MS community seeing positive results with carnivore is ever increasing. One of the interesting facts is that in the 50's one of the most successful treatments for MS was called the 'red meat diet'. It was basically the Lion diet before it got the catchy name. Dr. Chaffeee speaks to this in one of his carnivore-auto immune videos. My neurologist actually checks in on me and my progress in between visits. She asked if she could present my story to her colleagues even asking if another neurologist could sit in on my last appointment. I feel like I'm in a really good place with neurology. My primary family doctor is on board with the results and not totally against carnivore, but he is not a fan of my LDL. He is not a fan of the number of eggs I eat per day/per week. I also enjoy the board here. I am a much bigger fan of a person's personal story as I am 'study for this and study for that'. It is almost like there is a study to support whatever your persuasion is about just about any choice you make. I often chuckle at how two people from the same medical school, who received the same education/training on a 'scientific' subject can have such polar opposite opinions. And then can deliver 'scientific studies' to support whichever side of the fence they are standing. Like, 2=+2=4, regardless of what side of the fence one resides. I guess I amjust not smart like that. I can relate better to someone's personal experience. This type forum works well for me. Scott

Today marks one full year on carnivore. It has been quite the journey and more amazingly beneficial than anything I could have ever imagined. I started off with carnivore as being just a weight loss hack. I had no idea there would be benefits other than those associated with weight loss. I didn't bother with any of the research on carnivore, the best ways to go about things, I just plunged right in headfirst. It didn't take too long to start learning and figuring things out. (some even the hard way) I am extremely happy with the measurables. I started at 306lbs with my pant size 44-46. This morning, I weighed 213lbs, losing 93lbs in 12 months and a pant size of 38. If I hadn't started eating for grams of protein per pound the loss would have been well under 100 but I'm good with where and how I landed at 12 months. I have never had blood pressure or glucose issues and the only movement there is my blood sugar is now in the 80's most everyday whereas it was in the 90's before carnivore. My blood pressure has been a consistent 110/60. My cholesterol has improved some as my HDL is staying sort of constant, but my LDL dropped by 35 points on my last visit. The biggest benefit is that I have NMO/SD, an autoimmune disease that had me on pain and inflammation medicine for just over six years. The prednisone and Neurontin sort of got me thru some rough times when the pain/inflammation was slowing me down. After 4-6 weeks on a strict carnivore diet I found I didn't need the medicine anymore. By the end of that sixth week, I had stopped taking the pain and inflammation medicine altogether. Being pain free is an incredible thing to experience and to get there without a daily medication is really hard to describe. I could not have been any more surprised and could not have been any more pleased with the first six weeks of carnivore. I'm in the gym three to four times per week and the lifting is starting to grow both in weight and volume. It feels like I am performing better at 55 than 25. A big thanks to the members of the board and sharing their experiences and thoughts. I'm a bigger fan of hearing someone's personal experiences over a medical study where I have to wonder if the backer had a monetary interest in the outcome of the research or whether the control subjects were really controlled subjects. I can relate to another person's story more than that of a bunch of doctors and control subjects. I really appreciate the exchange of information as it has helped me get over some obstacles here and there. I'm still learning. After 12 months I think I am easing into carnivore becoming a life style vs. being a weight loss hack. Still, there is work to be done. Scott

Welcome Lala. As Scott said we are all individuals so don’t judge yourself against anyone else who eats this way. Being female you have a disadvantage because of your hormones. Sorry but that’s just how it is. But persistence and determination will see you there eventually. I like to use Kelly Hogan as an example. She didn’t lose weight for six months. The thing is, she realized that this is not a weight loss diet. It’s a lifestyle way of eating to heal the metabolism. She was also willing to experiment to find what worked best for her. She does on line counseling that may be beneficial for you. From your description it sounds like you are eating ok but maybe not enough. I’d starve only eating a couple of eggs and three strips of bacon at one meal. That doesn’t even whet my appetite. I just finished eating my one meal for the day of 16 oz of smoked lamb with a half a stick of butter and I’m not satisfied yet. I’ll be getting some more lamb in just a minute and if that isn’t enough I’ll probably cook up 4-6 eggs. If you don’t eat enough your body can go into starvation mode and refuse to use any stored fat. If you aren’t eating enough fat and too much protein your body can create its own glucose and use it first for energy instead of stored fat. If you haven’t already I would get the book The Carnivore Diet by Dr. Shawn Baker in book form or Audible. He does a really good job of explaining everything you need to know to do this correctly and why we should eat this way. Good luck and good health
  26. 3 points
I agree with Geezy, Dr. Baker's book is a great resource. Another good book is Eat Bacon, Don't Jog. I am not sure of the author but it is on ebay for $5. It is a really good read. The formatting is almost more conversation like than book reading. Both are good examples. I have an autoimmune disease as well, and carnivore has worked wonders for me. And welcome. Hopefully you can find what you need for a smooth transition. Scott

  29. Around minute 40 the conversation about skin tags..... I have had skin tags for as long as I remember. I had a couple cut off some years back. I just never gave them much thought. This afternoon I had another "whoo-da thunk it" moment with carnivore. I don't have any skin tags at all. There were several in my arm pit and one or two at the base of my neck. I had no idea they were gone and would have never noticed it (I think) until the video. The carnivore way of eating continues to amaze. Scott

It happened once before and my proteins were mixed a little more whereas this time, it was straight red meat. I would have to do some more self-experimenting to see which proteins did what and I am sure there are differences. For me, I am leaning toward it being just the sheer amounts/total volume of food I was eating. The weight gain is not that big of a deal for me at this point, and I didn't really see or feel any changes, but I'm going to end up missing that target going forward. One of the rules of thumb is to eat til you are comfortably full. I hit that mark and kept on going trying to hit a 'target'. As I move forward with carnivore I am sure I will still experiment and try to figure out things that work for me, but at the same time I am not sure I will chase that protein per pound number. I am sure it helps in the gym but the chances of me being Mr. Olympia or Mr. Universe as sort of slim, and actualy, I think that ship has sailed. LOL But yes, I am sure dialing up different proteins will have different results. Scott

From time to time the wife will shape up and get on board just for a little while, lol. Over time though she has became a supporter, in that instead of trying to tempt me - she will actually stop me from cheating. She's seen the results and even heard the doctors comment on how well I am doing that she understands that my dietary choices are the key, indeed, and that my health depends on it. Someday her health will depend on it too, and then maybe we'll win her over completely, lol.

Yep. There are trade-offs on everything. Every person has to weight their options and work within the confines. My wife is supportive of this way of eating although she is not a participant. If it were up to me I would go straight Lion's diet and only eat red meat. I actually feel better and feel more energetic when I go on stretches of just red meat. I eat mostly red meat and a couple times per week I eat whatever she is having. Thus far, this has worked for us. I am sure if I factored in family time, and especially if my son still lived at home, we may have to change some things up. The fasting works rather easily for me because I work night shift. I'm gone by 5PM and my wife does not get home til just about 5. Those three nights we have not eaten together for 25+ years. I take advantage of that disadvantage and make it work for fasting. Good luck. Keep pushing and I am sure you come up with a plan that works for you. Scott

@Terry Geezy was spot on with us being individuals. I upped my protein to build muscle and although it did not totally zap my energy I did gain some weight. What I have found that I do better with a higher fat content. I don't measure or track but if I make a concerted effort for fat intake I feel like my overall energy level is higher and I get in and out of fasting much better. That is a pretty good price on the suet. Around here is averages close to $2/lb. I buy a ten pound bag every week. I get some and the dogs get the rest. Me and the dogs get excited on that day. Scott

Agreed. I came to carnivore with zero health expectations other than losing weight and maybe the benefits from losing weight. I went from 'having no idea' to life changing results out of the blue. Talking about a pleasant surprise. When someone seems genuinely interested my spiel starts off with, "If you had told me this same story 12 months ago, I would be thinking you are full of it". Then lead into what it did for me in relative short order. I also direct them to the influencers and videos. Most continue on their path and in turn, I continue on mine. Scott

I feel that - "no one really cares about their health until it's too late" and then they will try anything to resolve it. Fortunately for most carnivores it can be turned around. When I first started out, It worked so well I was telling everyone about it ands QUICKLY found that NO ONE wanted to hear it, so "screw'em" is my route I go now. It is my secret answer to life. If someone asks and I can sense that they are truly interested in changing their life then I will suggest a few influencers videos to them and see how it goes from there. It's not my job to save the world! My wife and I now like to glance at other people's shopping carts when we go food shopping just to see the poor choices being made.

I went what I thought was cold turkey. My food selections were 'cold turkey' but I was using water flavoring packets as I was not a big water drinker prior to carnivore. In time I stopped using the water packets. I think I weaned myself into carnivore via the sugar in the packets. I didn't have a lot of issues with withdrawals/cravings. Muy issues were around the lack of salt/electrolytes. Once I got the salt/electrolytes in check, then adjusted the fat content up, it was a rather easy transition. Goodluck Carnovorenewbie. Hopefully today is better than yesterday. Take small steps and celebrate those smaller steps. The little accomplishments add up to big accomplishments. Best of luck. hang in there. Scott

We had two in town and both have since closed. One was the Oak Grove Market. They butchered in one part of the building and another part those same meats were cooked and served. We shopped there a couple times per week and ate lunch there at least once per week. The second was called "Supply Line". Their meat selection was tremendous and if they didn't have what you were looking for they would track it down and it would be there the next time. Even for a local, family-owned business they kept their prices down and relied on service and quality to offset the big box stores. They were able to do that for years and years. I miss both those places. We now have one 20+ miles away that is 'from the field to your table' and their meats are incredible. Expensive over time, but incredible. Everything is high, and if they bought high and sold low, they would be out of business in short order. In some slight mental justification, I shop there because I have saved money just eating meats and secondly, they are local, and family owned. Maybe the third, the young man that opened it is maybe 26-27 years old and when he interacts with customers you would think he was the 75 year old farmer from down the road that watched everyone grow up. An old soul. Our pork is from out back to inside, only a few hundred feet from the door. Eggs the same. Scott

My mom Worked for many years at a local diner and also had a few scary stories about food prep and that was back in the 70's when people were good and still dependable. I would NEVER trust a modern younger person to prepare my food under any circumstance. Most of them can't even cook their own food, much less somebody else's who they don't even care about. My first food service job was as a dishwasher at our local country club. We served all the elite members of our society and if they knew what they were sometimes eating, I'm not sure how that would have turned out. Most of them were liquor'd up (with a Monthly bar bill minimum) before they ate so it they probably had no concerns anyways 😂. Several times after a state health inspection I got the job of taking a putty knife and scraping the floor of the walk-in cooler. You would be surprised what you can scrape up from where your raw food is stored! Funny side story - That same kitchen had a microwave with the safety shield in the front door that was always falling out! It was placed just about testicle level and whenever they used it, I would leave the area. I said something to the food service manager and I was told to "not worry about that"

Kept you around to take more drugs, to fill the coffers of the drug dealers. And you were grateful to do so. You were poisoned, then saved, and you were thankful. They gave you poison to treat the first poison. What they never did was educate about the first poison, offer a cure, they stood by and took your money. They probably had a good laugh to the bank. We've been had, fool us once.... we've been had my friend.
