I planned the fast for these three nights. I am not sure how long it will las this time. I have been eating like a horse as of late and I think my body was getting use to the 'extra'.

I had a pretty good lift this morning and skipped the breakfast meal I have had for the last several weeks. My meal at lunch today was six eggs.

8 hours in and my blood sugar is at 70. I started today at 222lbs which is up 8 in the last two weeks but still 84 down from last May.

Totally bummed that my ketone meter did not arrive in time. I went to several places in town and none were available.

Not knocking on the pharmacist but she assured me the strips provided me with all the information I needed. Sometimes we can choose our battles. Today I chose not to educate someone with more education than me. Maybe another day.

8 hours deep and I won't say I am hungry, but I will say I know I didn't eat three times today. (if that makes any sense at all).

The first 12 to 18 hours is always the hardest for me when I have gone from breakfast time.  I find it works best (for me) to eat a normal breakfast and lunch, then fast from there.  I barely notice that I skip dinner, and then go right to bed.  By 7am you're 19 hours in!  

I know RIGHT where you are and what you are feeling like.  You got this!!!

Right now I'm at hour 52 on my current fast. I'm trying for 72 hours, which will be no problem. I really tested myself today by cooking bacon for my wife and I smoked and then slow cooked a corned beef. I had no sample of either. I love day 2 because of all the energy I have.

The first time was easier than I thought, and all was well til the 71st hour of the 72 hours of the fast. My last meal had been just as I started night shift a couple nights before. I pulled into the parking lot and all felt well. I stepped out of the truck and hit a wall. I had barely enough energy to get across the parking lot. Completely and utterly zapped. I ate and then felt much better, but the energy levels just pretty much returned to normal. I am sure there were benefits but at the time I didn't feel them (if that makes any sense at all)

In Feb I did a 72 hour fast and it was way easier than I ever imagined. I didn't get hungry, and I felt pretty good all the way til the end. I even considered stretching it out to 96 hours. I read a couple of articles, not necessarily conflicting, but differing opinions on the benefits of fasting past 72 hours. Coming out of that fast I felt like I could have easily done another 24 hours for a 96 hour fast. 

I ate Friday night and Saturday started off with some stool issues. Almost constipated followed by really loose for most of the morning. I probably should have eased back into eating with a smaller meal, but I didn't, and I think I had to pay for it. I felt pretty good that Sunday and had a really energetic workout. 

On Monday I started dayshift and I had energy to burn all four days. I woke up at 3AM and went to the gym for a really good workout, followed that with a 12-13 hour shift and when I got home that evening, I fed up everything with gas still in the tank. Energy levels after the second fast were crazy high. Almost weird.

I am sure the ketones were bouncing around at a crazy rate, maybe even to a level I had not experienced. This is why I am bummed the ketone meter did not come in on time. I'm really interested in the ketones and depths of ketosis throughout the fast. (mostly 'just to know').

I don't think I am at a point to give out advice or recommend a fast to anyone but so far, I have one 71 hour fast that felt ho-hum afterwards and another that left me with energy to burn all week. It may have lasted five or six days before it planed back out to more normal.

For me, it sounds harder to do than actually do.

Yep. Both of the others I ate that night when I got to work and the fast started afterwards. I can't remember what I ate the day of prior to the last one. I think by eating a lot as of late, skipping breakfast and letting the last meal be lunch vs. dinner is a bit different.

My notes say and I don't remember being hungry during the fasts but I feel like I could eat tonight. I'm guessing most of it is the 'eating habits of late' and abruptly going to one meal day that leads into a fast. Probably not the best plan but I am about ten hours deep now.

Damn the torpedoes.....and all that inspirational jargon. LOL

Yes.

There was not a lot of weight drop over the course of the fast but it did stoke a 3-4-5lb fall the first three or four days afterwards.

This time I started at 222lbs.

During the night my blood sugar inched back up from 70 to 85. That was about 18 hours into the fast. 

I went to the gym this morning after work. I got in a pretty good hour. This morning the gym was packed and it is hard enough for me to sit idle to rest between sets and just about impossible to wait for someone to finish my next machine/station. I sped up what I was doing but cut the lift short a bit.

About to crash and sort of wondering how the fasting and the lifting are going to collide when I wake up this afternoon. Unchartered waters for me.

It’s interesting that you mention crashing and colliding.
I’ve only done two long term fasts. My last one a couple of weeks ago I had planned to go 72 hours but I cut it short at a little over 48. I was doing some heavy work with a lot of bending over and getting up and I started feeling really bad. I kept getting dizzy and felt really tired and weak. I had to get some food in me and take a break for a while. A couple of hours later I was able to go back to working with no other issues.

The crash at 71 hours I still don't understand. Then the next one just afterwards I had super levels of energy for four or five days afterwards. 

I still wish the ketone meter had come in this time. I'm sort of itching to know the "numbers" vs. just seeing excess with the strips.

8 hours in and my first glucose reading was 70 and then at 18 hours in it was 85. At about 32 hours in it was 82 and about 40 hours in I am down to 72.

The 70 and 72 numbers are mid-shift and tonight it was mid-shift replacing a 2" valve up in the overhead. Sort of strenuous.

At 40 hours I feel good, have plenty of energy and all seems well.

Hopefully it continues.

I've had extended fasts that end at 40 hours or less and others that just won't quit. Not sure why this happens but I'll take whatever I can out of the experience. To me fasting is like magic making your body do things that you wouldn't think are even possible.  I just ended my latest at 87 hours and could have went till 96 but was feeling it a little so I ate a hard boiled egg with smoked salt just to get system working again. 8 lbs down this morning. Now at least 5 of those will go back on over the next week, but i'm still winning the race, LOL.

During the first two fasts my weight didn't drop all that much but once I started eating I had a fall of 4-6lbs over the next few days. This time at around 32 hours I was down 4lbs and I just went over 50 hours and I am down six. 

I just woke up from working last night. I got 4-5 hours of good sleep and I feel pretty good.

One of the things that has happened since early on with carnivore is that when I wake up, I wake up. No dragging, or lagging around trying to get going. When my eyes open I am ready to go. Most days after night shift I sleep 6-7 hours. I am not sure if the fasting altered that or I just happened to wake up a tad early today.

With the fasting I am seeming to pay attention to everything, all the details.

I fast 1st 2nd and 3rd of every month. For me the 1st day is the hardest. We burn ketones so energy levels are no problem.  I  used to have  stubborn 3kg I couldn't get rid of ..... but that when with fasting.

I feel 3 days gives your gut a break. I feel great for it. My advice, keep the salts and water up and make that 1st meal a small one.

I always say fasting is like magic. I normally sleep 8-9 hours but when in a fasted state 6 hours sleep is about all I need and then it's time to wakey-wakey. I would agree on the mental clarity also. if let's say I lose 5 lbs on a fast I will put back on 3 maybe 4 lbs over the next several days, But that is still a win. On the one I just ended I'm going to try for a bigger gain this time by really watching food intake. It would be so cool to lose 5 or 6 lbs and then keep that off forever

I drink water, Black decaf coffee (trying to quit all coffee), Herbal teas and maybe a flavored seltzer if we have any in the house.

I will sometimes add a powdered collagen supp to the coffee.

I'm drinking just water but eating some salt here and there. 

I have never been much on coffee and I'm from the south, we "thicken" our teas with sugar. Close to syrup in some places. LOL

About 69 hours deep in the fast and I feel really good. Night shift went off with plenty of energy and this morning I hit the gym on the way home. I started feeling the work earlier than usual and sort of cut it short for today. I think maybe a combination of 69 hours into the fast, the 12-13 hour night shift and I didn't sleep my normal amount yesterday. I am sure any one of the them could have drained my tank a bit but I'm thinking the combination of the three.

This time around my blood sugar didn't get as high as last time. After 8 hours I was at 70 then 85 afterwards. which has been the highest reading on this fast. This morning after work it was 78.

This time around I'm at 6 pounds lost since I ate at lunch time on Tuesday. My last meal was six eggs vs. the red meat I did the last two times. If I hit a fall next week like I did the last two times I will be pushing the 100lb lost mark.

Straight craziness as with carnivore I don't feel like I am trying all that hard. There are a lot of days I have energy to burn and could walk a bit further, increase the amount I run during the walk, increase the amount of pushups along the walk or even ramp it up in the gym. Again, straight craziness.

I'm about to crash for the day and have to work tonight. When I wake up I will decide if this is my first 96 hour fast or maybe eat at work tonight. I haven't decided.

If the energy level is there next week like the last time a 72-96 hour fast on my three nightshifts each month will become my new norm.

I always say I don't preach or teach the diet, nor do I get up on the pedestal, but sometimes I feel like other people just need to know.

The real crazy is this is how mankind should be eating all of the time for optimal health but instead we are constantly being poisoned both in body and mind.

      For this months challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to get up and move. Spring is in the air. The weather is getting better. Get out there and MOVE! Go for walks, hike some trails if they aren't too muddy. Or just make a goal to get on the treadmill or lift some weights more than usual throughout the month. Get in the habit now, and we just might have beach bodies when summer officially hits, lol.

    • Today is February 1st and marks the first day of "National Fasting February" - and yes, this is a thing. Google it!

      For this month's challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to practice various forms of fasting throughout the month. The type of fasting you wish to do is entirely up to you. We are going to encourage INTERMITTENT FASTING, that is to put it simply, skipping a meal so that you are only eating 2 meals a day instead of the traditional 3 meals a day. The goal is to enjoy these meals within an 8 hour "feasting window" and then no food in the remaining 16 hours "fasting window" (in which 8 of those hours you should be sleeping).

      An example is waking up at 7am, but waiting until 11am-noon for your first meal, and then having dinner at 6-7pm for your 2nd meal. Other people prefer to eat a breakfast, then a mid-day lunch, and skip dinner. 

      If you want to throw in a 24, 48, or 72 hour fast just to show off by all mean do so, lol.
