No help here as I never take them but from what I’ve read from others you really need to pay attention to the ingredients.

yes, Im gonna make my own mostly raw eggs, whole milk or cream and probably some blueberries.  Started lifting today. I've been drinking milk now and my legs feel better when running. Ill do this for a few days then eliminate the dairy and see if I can shed a few more pounds.

whole milk

Would heavy whipping cream be better or half and half? Just thinking of the higher fat content and less lactose.

I use a protein powder when I do use the protein drinks.

Ingredients are key as some are loaded with carbs and sugars.

I don't really count calories but if protein is XX amount per gram and you get 30 grams per serving the total calories on the ingredients should be really close to that number for protein.

I use Bulk Supplement non-flavored protein powder. It is 30 grams per serving which works out to about 120 calories, but the total is 130 per serving. 10 extra calories from fillers and I am sure the stuff that makes it not taste like crap. Some of the powders will be 120 calories from protein but be 150-175 total. That is where they can sneak the carbs and sugars in on us. And since most of us believe carbs and sugars are an addiction, having them slipped in on us is not a good thing.

I have never made one from scratch, but it actually sounds good. I'm deep into this fast, and although I am not hungry, a homemade shake sounds good and is probably a good way to break the fast.

Between Google and Youtube I am sure there are some solid ideas. Thanks for prompting my brain.

I bought some decent powder but It has way to much sweetener for my taste, so I don't full dose it.  I won't be buying any more powders.  Im going with eggs and milk and just enough fruit to add some sweetness. Unless someone has a better option.  Im not a cream hater, just don't have it in the house.

Most of them do.

I use the plain. I am sure the flavored ones will taste like straight sugar.

I don't use them often just when I feel like I am going to fall way short of my protein target.

I hadn't thought about making my own and going that route sounds more appealing.

Thanks for sharing.

    • "Marching into March with Much Motivation"

For this months challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to get up and move. Spring is in the air. The weather is getting better. Get out there and MOVE! Go for walks, hike some trails if they aren't too muddy. Or just make a goal to get on the treadmill or lift some weights more than usual throughout the month. Get in the habit now, and we just might have beach bodies when summer officially hits, lol.

Just like before, we encourage you to check in daily, and share what you have eaten, perhaps a weigh-in if you're willing, and enjoy in some small talk.

The March drawing will be for a 4-pack of Carnivore Bars!

Every Reply in this topic will count as an entry for this month's prize drawing. Back-to-back posts count as 1 entry as a counter to spamming.

Attending Monday night zoom also counts as a bonus entry. Being a supporter of our YouTube channel also gives you an entry.

    • Today is February 1st and marks the first day of "National Fasting February" - and yes, this is a thing. Google it!

For this month's challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to practice various forms of fasting throughout the month. The type of fasting you wish to do is entirely up to you. We are going to encourage INTERMITTENT FASTING, that is to put it simply, skipping a meal so that you are only eating 2 meals a day instead of the traditional 3 meals a day. The goal is to enjoy these meals within an 8 hour "feasting window" and then no food in the remaining 16 hours "fasting window" (in which 8 of those hours you should be sleeping).

An example is waking up at 7am, but waiting until 11am-noon for your first meal, and then having dinner at 6-7pm for your 2nd meal. Other people prefer to eat a breakfast, then a mid-day lunch, and skip dinner.

If you want to throw in a 24, 48, or 72 hour fast just to show off by all mean do so, lol.
