Guys, I need some advice. I've been following a carnivore diet for 1 year. (For the first 6 months, I ate red meat, usually chuck meat, and eggs. Nothing else. After the first 6 months, I would sometimes change. I would sometimes eat fish, for example. I even ate chicken (roasted or cooked) for more than 3 months. However, After my first 3-4 months, my fat loss plateaued. (I lost about 7 kg of body fat. +-15lbsg.) For most of my time as a Carnivore i did not lose much bodyfat. I also have not experience many of the famous carnivore benefits, such as better sleep, mental clarity or more energy.I was a healthy individual when i started this diet. With no chronic illness or any health problems.

Where i live (São Paulo, Brazil) The cost of meat has increased significantly and I had to reduce the amount of meat I consume daily.

Since the beginning of 2025, I've been following a more ketogenic diet.

I would like to ask if it is possible to follow a carnivore diet if all you can afford are burgers and eggs:

1- Is it possible to follow a carnivore diet if you have the financial means to only buy Bugger Patties and eggs?

2- How do you calculate the amount of food you should eat when you want to lose body fat? (Most people on a carnivore diet don't count calories. However, when I ate meat and eggs, without calorie control, I only lost body fat for the first 3-4 months. I plateaued pretty quickly.)

3- How do you know how much fat and protein you actually need, when trying to lose bodyfat on a Carnivore diet?

I'm 35 years old. I'm1 80 cms tall and weigh about 81kg(+- 180lbs) at 20%BF . My goal would be to lose about 6-7kgs(+-15lbs) of body fat (to get under 15%BF) without starving myself(Ideally until the end of 2025). I also go to the gym and do strength training 3 times a week. I eat two meals a day, in a 4-6 hour window (12:00-6:00 PM). I have no health problems. I did the diet for body recompositions goals and for the satiety.

Sorry for any grammar mistakes. English is not my first language.

Thank you for your attention.

  • Yes, beef and eggs is going to be your primary needs in fact. Count the amount of protein, that should be around 1 gram per 1 pound of your IDEAL body weight. Your goal weight. When wanting to lose

Count the amount of protein, that should be around 1 gram per 1 pound of your IDEAL body weight. Your goal weight.

When wanting to lose fat, don't even worry about protein intake, the carnivore diet will provide enough.

Counting calories will be a waste of time.

By starting off with the fattiest cuts of meat, focus on fat mostly, the amount of protein your body need will differ from mine.

Your stool/poop will tell you all you need to know. Make sure also you figure out your magnesium and pottasium intake if you feel you lack.

Weight training is definitely a plus, keep at it. I am 1.75m and about 61kg. Been lifting weights for 15 years and at 11% body fat. Your eating schedule also is perfect for your goals. But, the lower your body fat percentage, the more challenging it gets, stalling can accur. Again, at later age we fight against the eating of our past, we're talking years of eating contra indicated, and it may take years to get in shredded condition. The light is found at the end of the tunnel and it can be done.

Hope this helps.

I am confused as to what the importance body fat is. Extremely low body fat is actually not good for longevity. Dr Sean O'mara and Dr Ben Bikman speak on the health benefits of adiponectin which is something adipose tissue provides. Just keep doing what your doing and stop obsessing about your BF %

Sorry Orweller, I fumbled into quote mode and can't find undo button, please disregard the quote.

Orweller is spot.

You can actually thrive on burgers and eggs. Sort of combing an answer to several of your questions but with burgers, the fat content is there but more of the time it is cooked away. If you grill a lot of the fat is the drippings than land below. If you fry then you have the grease in the pan. That fat in the pan can be the different between making carnivore work and not. We had burgers last night off the grill. The best tasting part of the meal and the most important part to a carnivore landed in the fire. When eating burger I make it a point to eat three or for slices of butter-sometimes a 1/4 stick, maybe even more at times.

I can only speak for me, but I have found that my fat content is the absolute key for me one carnivore. I experimented with leaner meats in attempt to "be carnivore" yet be in line with 'traditional medicine' and its views on heart health and cholesterol. My numbers and my weight all went in the opposite direction of my goals. It took a me minute or two to figure that out. Then in an attempt to hit a protein goal for muscle growth I allowed the fat content to drop as I struggled to eat the amount required to get to 1 gram per pound of ideal body weight. When I choked down enough protein to hit the target the fat content got lost in the shuffle. I gained weight, maybe some muscle as I am lifting consistently with volume and intensity, but mostly body fat.

As strange as it sounds to most, on the carnivore diet you have to eat the fat in order to lose the fat. If you are stalling or not pulling down to your ideal weight (or relatively close) I would think the fat content is low. Your body is making the sugar it needs from your protein intake, and then without the fat, it is using the protein to make some more sugar, and the equals the stall and the weight gain.

Best of luck. I hadn't heard Sao Paulo in years. I served in the Navy with a guy from Sao Paulo in the 80's and then in the late 90's I imported a Fila Brasiliero from there. Not a name you hear everyday.

Good luck. Burger and eggs will do you just fine.

I do believe you need to know your energy intake and expenditure if you want to reach a weight goal without a lot of wasted time. The fact that you are limited to burger and eggs will make it easier. Keep your exercise routine the same. weight yourself on day one. Eat a measured amount of burger and eggs everyday for a week or two and reassess your weight/composition. then adjust your weekly intake according to your goals. good luck
