Exact same boat. I started the diet as nothing more than a weight loss hack and it worked amazingly fast. I dropped 30-31 pounds in the first 31-32 days and down 85 pound by year one. I'm currently around 15 months or so at 95lbs lost I looked frail and some even thought I was sick again. I had been lifting regularly about a month or so into carnivore and walking around 3.5 miles three to four times per week. I tried to up the protein content to 1 gram of protein for every pound of lean muscle mass. I'm guessing my number is around 200lbs but I can't eat 200 grams of protein in a day. I'm just not hungry and in order to get to 160-180 grams of protein I feel like I am force feeding myself. I went the route of protein shakes to get in some extra grams of protein. I ran out and bought one of the store-bought pre-mixed protein drinks. It had 50 grams of protein, but it had 11-12 grams of sugar. As soon as I started those drinks my appetite went crazy. I was able to eat really close and sometimes over 190-200 grams of protein. This month I switched to an all-red meat diet (Lion Diet) and without the sugar the appetite is starting to fall off again. But the couple months I used the protein drinks my progress in the gym made big strides. As the young people say, "the plates don't lie". At 56 I'm stronger now than I was 20-25 years. Welcome. I'm sort of the same with the internet as well. I use this board and it took me forever to figure out how to participate in the Monday night round table discussions. Good luck. Scott

But since people (except my wife, also a carnivore) act like it's the craziest thing in the world, I figure I better get connected. We came to this nutrition approach via keto after listening to the podcast The Sacred Cow. Until going carnivore, I was like that woman on the commercial where she said that anywhere she went, she always makes sure to know where the bathroom is (sorry, can't recall the product they were selling). Digestion was better on keto but completely transformed doing carnivore. My wife and I both lost significant weight even though we were both already very healthy. I recently realized after seeing pictures of myself from a recent trip that I was so into being lean that I had lost a lot of muscle. Listening to an interview with Dr Chaffe opened my eyes to the change in hunger signals that is possible on carnivore and realized I needed to up my protein and get busy in the gym! Looking forward to learning from you all and contributing where I can.

There is no “perfectly” in this way of eating. There is only what works for you. We aren’t dogmatic all different and as such have different needs so you must fit this way of eating into what works best for you. We do start out with a foundation of just eating 70% fats to 30% protein in relationship to calories and just drink water but from there we build out diet to suit our needs. We are here to help you any way we can. My first suggestion would be to get Dr. Shawn Bakers book The Carnivore Diet. It will help you understand how to get started.

This group is a great place to get assistance and ask any questions you may have about getting your nutrition as being a carnivore. Doing it "perfectly" would be great but is not really necessary IMO. if you are just starting out you may want to approach it slowly over a few weeks or months to let your system adjust to this different way of eating. I jumped right in and had 3 or 4 weeks of digestion issues and a few "disaster pants" events, and then one day it all clicked into place and I have been eating this way ever since and as long as I'm in control of my own life I will continue being a carnivore until someone shows me a better way. There are many members of this group who have some serious health issues and most of us have had rapid and substantial turn arounds in our health. Ask any questions that you have and you WILL get some answers here. analyze those answers and test out what feels right to you. If that doesn't work then test out another route. Some people may find a KETO or even KETOvore diet works better for themselves especially with just starting out. some people may even need a lion diet for more serious health issues. I myself am a carnivore 95% of the time along with my wife, but we will still at times go get a pizza or once or twice a year eat some ice cream. Eat whole foods and eat them well BUT don't beat yourself up if you eat something horrible one day. Just face facts that you ate the wrong thing and then immediately jump right back on the carnivore train. This train has a seat for everybody who cares about their own health. All aboard! 🚂

About month three with the weight loss I started seeing health problems that had been hidden by the excess body weight previously. I guess I was becoming so sick on my old diet that I was past being able to tell what was normal anymore. Months four to five has been about discovering the damage and healing. I am 29 lbs lighter and have about 20 lbs to go for my frame. I look forward to increasing activities as it comes off. I can actually take deep breaths with clear lungs now, less body pain and can visibly see muscle coming back.
