Did you scare her to death? Looks unharmed.

Interestingly, here in Finland a 223 does not kill whitetail. It has to be at least 243.

I don´t know why I have not hunted much lately. Just did not feel like it.

Got one tag left and 27 days to fill it.

Can't hunt with a 30 round magazine? What round do you hunt with? I've got a S&W Sport II 5.56, but that is my post-alarm system rather than a hunting rifle. Maybe one of these days I'll go hunting. Amazing catch and congratulations. I like your hunting updates. I've bagged a handful of groundhogs over the summer but merely because they were a pest and were digging under the foundation of my shed. Did not eat them.

Lol, no, it was a clean entry and no exit. Bullet dumped all of its energy into her. She dropped in her tracks. I also try to take clean pictures when I can.
The 5.56 or .223 are quite capable of taking whitetail. It all comes down to shot placement and the type of bullet you use.
Nothing survives this heart shot with a 5.56.

I’ve taken a lot of deer and hogs with 5.56 but  the deer in my post was taken with a 6.5 Grendel. It’s a great deer cartridge to use in the AR platform.

Yes I can hunt with any size magazine I want. We still have our freedom here in Texas. I just choose to use a ten round mag. The big magazines just get in the way.
As I said in the previous post this particular gun is a 6.5 Grendel. It’s shooting a 123 gn Hornady ELDM bullet. I have both factory and hand loads.
When I use my 5.56 I’m feeding it a soft nose bullet in anywhere from 62 to 77 grains. I have a fast twist barrel and it does well at stabilizing the heavier bullets and the get good penetration and fast kills.

6.5 in various forms has been getting popular here, too. Good bullets are available from several manufacturers.

I don´t have a 6.5 but I reload for 14 calibers, 22-250 to 470 NE. I have also been casting bullets (mostly for larger, slower calibers) since the 90´s.

I should have known this. You can hop in a helicopter, wrapped in the American flag, using that as a parachute, as you shoot a critter with a minigun.

Absolutely true but man, it’s expensive.

Hog hunting as we speak.

The animals find it very assaulting. 😁

As soon as we got constitutional carry here in Ohio, that is when I got one. A Glock 42 for IWB carry, and a little Walther PPK for the fun.

A Glock 27 for my everyday carry and a Ruger LCP for when the Glock is too big.
My bride carries a Ruger LC9.

    • "Marching into March with Much Motivation"

For this months challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to get up and move. Spring is in the air. The weather is getting better. Get out there and MOVE! Go for walks, hike some trails if they aren't too muddy. Or just make a goal to get on the treadmill or lift some weights more than usual throughout the month. Get in the habit now, and we just might have beach bodies when summer officially hits, lol.

Just like before, we encourage you to check in daily, and share what you have eaten, perhaps a weigh-in if you're willing, and enjoy in some small talk.

The March drawing will be for a 4-pack of Carnivore Bars!

Every Reply in this topic will count as an entry for this month's prize drawing. Back-to-back posts count as 1 entry as a counter to spamming.

Attending Monday night zoom also counts as a bonus entry. Being a supporter of our YouTube channel also gives you an entry.

Let's keep our resolutions going strong!

    • Today is February 1st and marks the first day of "National Fasting February" - and yes, this is a thing. Google it!

For this month's challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to practice various forms of fasting throughout the month. The type of fasting you wish to do is entirely up to you. We are going to encourage INTERMITTENT FASTING, that is to put it simply, skipping a meal so that you are only eating 2 meals a day instead of the traditional 3 meals a day. The goal is to enjoy these meals within an 8 hour "feasting window" and then no food in the remaining 16 hours "fasting window" (in which 8 of those hours you should be sleeping).

An example is waking up at 7am, but waiting until 11am-noon for your first meal, and then having dinner at 6-7pm for your 2nd meal. Other people prefer to eat a breakfast, then a mid-day lunch, and skip dinner.

If you want to throw in a 24, 48, or 72 hour fast just to show off by all mean do so, lol.
