Today is February 1st and marks the first day of "National Fasting February" - and yes, this is a thing. Google it!

For this months challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to practice various forms of fasting throughout the month. The type of fasting you wish to do is entirely up to you. We are going to encourage INTERMITTENT FASTING, that is to put it simply, skipping a meal so that you are only eating 2 meals a day instead of the traditional 3 meals a day. The goal is to enjoy these meals within an 8 hour "feasting window" and then no food in the remaining 16 hours "fasting window" (in which 8 of those hours you should be sleeping).

An example is waking up at 7am, but waiting until 11am-noon for your first meal, and then having dinner at 6-7pm for your 2nd meal. Other people prefer to eat a breakfast, then a mid-day lunch, and skip dinner.

If you want to throw in a 24, 48, or 72 hour fast just to show off by all mean do so, lol.

Just like before, we encourage you to check in daily, and share what you have eaten, perhaps a weigh-in if you're willing, and enjoy in some small talk. Every Reply in this topic will count as an entry for this month's prize drawing. Attending Monday night zoom also counts as a bonus entry. Back-to-back posts count as 1 entry as a counter to spamming.

Let's keep our resolutions going strong!

Toward the end of the month but I am going to fast again next week when I am off work. I want to see how it affects me when I am up and about, working out, working in the shop, etc. etc.
The other fasts I did at night. It is easy to stay busy and not eat at work then come home a sleep the day away.
Looking back over the last one, it did go really easily. I just finished my 4-day work week (12-13 and one 14-hour shift). Normally this week beats me down quite a bit. My Saturday last week was OK but on Sunday I felt like I was more energetic all day.
These four days I felt like I had energy throughout the shift and tonight after 50+ hours I still feel like I have gas in the tank. This morning I was in the gym at 4AM and lifted an hour or so before going to work.
My best guess is ketosis and ketones factored in but I am not sure why I had energy all week. Even at other times on carnivore this week has been more than a handful.
I might start doing the fasts a little more frequently but maybe not 72 hours.
Scott

It’s the ketones. It’s the only energy source you have now.

I’m on the back end of a 48 hour fast. I haven’t decided if I want to go 72 hours yet or not. I’ll just play it by ear and see how I feel tomorrow.

Today is the last day of "Fasting February" and we will add up the entries and have another drawing.

We need a theme for March. Carnivore Bar has jumped in to participate in the March giveaway.

I want to get the meter next time vs. the strips for ketones. I think it will give bit more information.

This week is normally rough (dayshift is a constant go all the time). It's Friday night and I have had 'high energy' all week. I'm not sure if it is directly linked to the fast and the re-set I have read about.

I'm reading now on the benefit differences between 48 and 72 hours or possibly going past 72 hours. If I have the same energy level next time and I feel the energy is a direct result from the fast it will become a more regular thing for me.

Not prying, just curious, @Geezy "interested in whether you see an difference in energy levels after the 48 hour fast you mentioned". Sort of like another data point.

Had not heard of these folks until just now.  They have some fantastic articles on their website!

Just this one here would answer so many questions for those just starting this diet!

Yeah the strips are not very accurate because they can only measure excess ketones that are being expelled not what’s in your system or what’s being used.
The meters are better but they are only measuring what’s in your blood stream at that particular time. Useful but only to a degree.

My energy levels were very good. In fact my energy levels help me want to do more and when doing more I didn’t get hungry so it worked well for me.
I had to break my fast today though. I was getting light headed and almost passed out a couple of times. I was doing some work that required a bunch of bending over and getting back up it really hot to me. The blood just wasn’t getting to my head quick enough when I straightened up. Actually hit my knees one time.  I figured it was time to eat something.

No doubts. Smart move.

Interested to see how your energy levels are after the break. My work week didn't change from times past. The four days on dayshift is affectionately referred to as 'hell week' for us rotators. The only part that really changed was fasting from the previous Tuesday night to Friday night. I broke it Friday night, had some stool issues Saturday morning and by Saturday night felt recharged, maybe even rejuvenated. I don't remember it being to this extent when I made it 71 hours and crashed.

This one was especially energetic for me. So much so, I woke up at 3AM'ish on Thursday morning (went to be at 9PM) and felt fully charged and ready to go and went to the gym from a little before three til 5AM, then pulled the 12 hour shift which was especially hectic. I came home, fed animals, and still had what felt like gas in the tank.

If I feel there is a direct link between the two, one leads to the other, then that has to be my plan going forward.

Thanks for the reply.

Well I can’t say that I feel any different today. In fact I’m a little tired.
After I broke my fast yesterday I had plenty of energy and felt good. I worked hard in my barn most of the day and then worked on my Harley until late in the evening. It felt really good.
I slept longer than I normally do but I woke up tired and have felt tired all day so far. I don’t have any idea why unless it’s just because I just did too much yesterday and my body just haven’t caught up yet.

I can never figure out why I'm tired or why I have energy! Sometimes I think, for me, it's all emotional. Sounds like you accomplished a lot yesterday! That's a good feeling, huh!

Brainstorming some potential themes for March: 1) Something you want to give up for the month of March, and how it's going.  2) Something you want to try adding in, and how it's going.   3) Working toward goals, like lowering A1C or some other type of blood marker changes, or longer/better sleep or working out or some other health goal

Or - maybe you already thought of something and posted it and I missed it!

I could actually use a workout challenge. It's so hard to get motivated for me!!

I'm on a permanent "lower my A1C challenge" 🤔😅

Has going carnivore helped with that?

Brilliantly!

I went from 8.9 down to 6.1 currently, and it keeps trending down lower.  Shooting for the fives at my next appointment.

Wow! That's great!!

That is a huge improvement. Not often can we celebrate a 'downward spiral'. Nice work.

I'm in the process of learning my glucose levels based on my day to day. I have always had relatively low blood sugar so it is not a huge health concern for me, but a large percentage of my family on my mom's side is Type I and II diabetics. For that reason alone I have always kept tabs on it somewhat regularly.

Babbling on. Congrats on the progress and good luck as you spiral downward. LOL
