Hi. This bacon is pasture raised but is cured with salt, sugar, maple syrup, corn syrup solids. Stay away from it? Any thoughts?

The syrups are not part of the curing process but simply added for the flavor.

As you know, we try to stay away from anything that contains sugar. But it’s all subjective to the individual. Will that tiny amount of sugar on the edge of that bacon harm you? Only you can tell. Will you be eating the whole pound at one sitting? It might, but three of four slices probably not.
You could try it and if you see no difference then it is probably not that bad for you but if you find yourself experiencing inflammation, cravings or skin issues then that may be a problem. You can be your N of 1.
Now me personally? I don’t want anything sweet in my life except my bride so I would avoid it.

We had a brand we used for years and in the beginning, I didn't see much difference. As I have progressed with carnivore there are some sugars that trigger the loose stools.

On occasion I drink a glass of milk. It does not really do anything to my stomach but during the weight loss I felt like it played a part in a stall. The sugar in the milk does not bother me that much.

The bacon was sugar cured and added the maple syrup for taste, like said earlier. This minor amount of sugar would send me running. I have also gotten to the point where 'me and seed oils' no longer work well together.

I have not had sugar or carb cravings (been lucky) but if you are still craving that little bit of sugar on the bacon with the syrup might be your gateway drug. hard to say.

I think it will be based on you as an individual. If it works for you then it is a non-issue. If itis , then the most effective part about carnivore is that it is an elimination diet.

Thanks guys. That’s helpful. I was asking for my daughter who got it delivered along with her regular order of wonderful cuts. I’ll pass on the information to her. Much appreciated.

I was concerned when I read the macros on Wright's bacon, which is the thick cut, smoked awesomeness.  Ingredients read, "Sugar"..... but when I read the Carbs, it started "0", zero.  I assume "0" because it is less than 1 gram.

I'm not going to loose sleep over it and continuing buying Wright's wonderfulness.

There's no such thing as bad bacon! Bacon is law! Bacon is supreme! All hail bacon! End of discussion. I'll pretend this blasphemy has never occurred!

I generally don't worry about the word "sugar" in bacon ingredients if the carb count still reads "zero" on the nutrition label. They add a little bit to the solution that the bacon soaks/cures in. Most of it rinses off. Whatever amount of sugar or sugar residue that might remain is probably trivial, thus "zero" on the label.

I was just thinking that yesterday. Thanks for confirming that Bob.

    • "Marching into March with Much Motivation"

For this months challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to get up and move. Spring is in the air. The weather is getting better. Get out there and MOVE! Go for walks, hike some trails if they aren't too muddy. Or just make a goal to get on the treadmill or lift some weights more than usual throughout the month. Get in the habit now, and we just might have beach bodies when summer officially hits, lol.

Just like before, we encourage you to check in daily, and share what you have eaten, perhaps a weigh-in if you're willing, and enjoy in some small talk.

The March drawing will be for a 4-pack of Carnivore Bars!

Every Reply in this topic will count as an entry for this month's prize drawing. Back-to-back posts count as 1 entry as a counter to spamming.

Attending Monday night zoom also counts as a bonus entry. Being a supporter of our YouTube channel also gives you an entry.

    • Today is February 1st and marks the first day of "National Fasting February" - and yes, this is a thing. Google it!

For this month's challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to practice various forms of fasting throughout the month. The type of fasting you wish to do is entirely up to you. We are going to encourage INTERMITTENT FASTING, that is to put it simply, skipping a meal so that you are only eating 2 meals a day instead of the traditional 3 meals a day. The goal is to enjoy these meals within an 8 hour "feasting window" and then no food in the remaining 16 hours "fasting window" (in which 8 of those hours you should be sleeping).

An example is waking up at 7am, but waiting until 11am-noon for your first meal, and then having dinner at 6-7pm for your 2nd meal. Other people prefer to eat a breakfast, then a mid-day lunch, and skip dinner.

If you want to throw in a 24, 48, or 72 hour fast just to show off by all mean do so, lol.
