  1. I had sausage patties earlier, and then later after I got home I had some sugar free beef jerky that I had ordered from Amazon. Tonight is Open Mic Night, so I will have my usually beef patties, bacon, and cheese, with a single shot of Angel's & Envy Kentucky bourbon.
  2. Seafood will win me over also, lol 😄
  3. Today I successfully intermittently fasted for the first time since November (I think). I ate at noon while at work, leftover burger patty with mozzarella, a sausage link, a couple hard boiled eggs, and some sugar free beef jerky. And then I didn't eat again until my 20oz NY Strip at dinner time about 8pm.
  4. Breakfast was sausage. Lunch I had some beef bologna in an egg life wrap, and for dinner I just had 2 half pound burgers with some shredded cheese. The shredded cheese is "carolina reaper and ghost pepper" cheese. My gut has been bothering me all week since I opened it and I am starting to think this is the reason. Thank goodness it's almost all used up. Well since we're sitting at the confessional, I did have an apple to hold me over till dinner. I fixed my rear brakes today, and then took the dog to the dog park because she was restless. I was a little hungry but wanted to get the park out of the way first before cooking.
  5. I started falling apart in my mid 30's and it accelerated in my 40's. But I had ulcerative colitis really bad. I was told there was nothing I could do about it, no dietary changes required because diet had nothing to do with it. It was an auto-immune condition with an "unknown" cause - maybe it's genetic. After nearly a decade of suffering, I started looking into diet. I was drinking a pot of coffee in the morning, snacking on nuts and almonds throughout the day, and gorging on spinach-rich salads for lunch and sometimes dinner. Basically, I was a 24/7 oxalate imbiber. I quit coffee and my condition improved tremendously, and a couple years later I discovered carnivore and this summer I might legitimately be declared *cured* by my gastroenterologist. Needless to say, I have no respect for Big Food anymore and almost no faith in the healthcare system at present.

  7. There's a feature in this software where I can 'expand' acronyms. It will underline them and then when you mouse over them you can see a pop up with the full meaning of the term. I should start adding some of the more popular ones 🙂
  8. Last night I had some beef bologna in an Egg Life Wrap with pepperjack cheese and some avocado mayo. It was late, so I didn't want a big meal. Today so far has been a repeat of yesterday. Eggs and sausage in the morning and then quarter pound beef patties for lunch. Dinner is still a few hours away yet.
  9. On my labs, it says the range for "healthy LDL" is capped at 99, lol. Back in the day it used to be 300, then it has been gradually lowered with subsequent "studies" funded by the statin manufactures, from 250, to 200, to 150, etc. Basically, it's just a way to get more people as "subscribers" so they keep getting that residual income, because when you start a statin, you're on it for life. Same with blood pressure. Hypertension stage 1 used to start at 140/90. In 2017 several health organizations lowered it to 130/80 being the start of stage 1.
  10. Excellent. All those results look fantastic! Maybe. Mine is always 137 like clockwork. Over the last 5 years, it has never changed. I would agree with stopping your potassium supplementation. I have a topic on here called "Hyperkalemia" which is what you now have. My potassium levels were high due to a presription drug I take in combination with my CKD. I did Lion Diet for 30 days to get my potassium levels down because chicken breast and especially pork is high in potassium. You probably just need to cut back on the supplement. Over 6.0 and you might start noticing symptoms. A level over 7.0 can stop your heart. So, take this one a bit seriously. The theory here is that when you eat a carnivore-centric diet, your red blood cells live longer than the average 3 months, giving you this elevated reading. If you got the blood test in the morning, this could be the dawn phenomenon. Alternatively, since you fasted for 19 hours, you may have started gluconeogenesis (converting proteins into glucose). All in all, outside of the potassium, you're in good shape. I would gladly trade labs with you, lol 😄
  11. You don't want to overdo it with liver. Not only is Vitamin A toxicity an issue, but I have heard that copper toxicity can also be an issue. One resouce suggests the following... Beef liver: from 18g to 59g for men and from 14g to 59g for women Lamb liver: from 12g to 41g for men and from 9g to 41g for women Pork liver: from 14g to 46g for men and from 11g to 46g for women Chicken liver: from 27g to 90g for men and from 21g to 90g for women
  12. I don't notice any effects. I have cheese at my leisure. But if I have too much the stools will become like rocks. I don't drink milk. Occasionally, I will buy heavy whipping cream and make ice cream, but even that was like 6 months ago.
  13. I've never made brown butter bites. It's another thing on my to-do list. I would like to bump my fat and lower my protein to ensure ketosis as I embark on my effort to lose my last 10 pounds - the most stubborn 10 pounds to try to lose, lol. Breakfast was 4 sausage patties and 4 eggs, and for lunch I went through McDonald's and got 4 quarter pound beef patties. It came to $6, which is pretty good for a pound of beef.
  14. I am currently listening to The Carnivore Code by Paul Saladino. It's VERY science-based, deep research kind of material. I think you would like it. Shawn Baker has a book called The Carnivore Diet. It's sitting next to me at my desk but I haven't got to it yet. But he's one of the leading doctors in this way of eating.
  15. In the tab at the top of the screen (or menu on mobile) under Activity, there is "Content I Started" which will also display your own posts. The Activity Stream is pretty popular and where a lot of users participate from. I'm old school and still use the index page with the list of Forums. You can filter, adjust, and set the parameters of the Activity Stream, and then access it under Activity -> My Content Streams
  16. Welcome aboard Carol! Good choices! Sounds delicious 🙂
  17. Welcome back. If you trip, just get back up. You can do this! 🙂 Back when I was keto, there was sooo many things you could make with almond flour. If I recall I posted a fathead's pizza crust recipe in here last summer that had almond flour in the recipe.
  18. You can visit your own profile and there is a button that says "All activity" or something like that. On mobile it looks like a newspaper icon.
  19. Cheese is not usually a problem, especially if it's a little. But sometimes what we think is a little is actually a little more than we think. Check to make sure it's straight up fat and protein with zero/trace carbs in it. I've also heard a ton of testimony from several individuals that report that cheese tends to stall them, and when they eliminate it they see better results. I know that's a drag but it might be worth cutting out for a couple weeks just to see if it makes a difference. You can always add it back at your leisure. But one of the intents of the carnivore diet is to be an elimination diet so you can try to learn and isolate what your body does or doesn't get along with. So this will stop you from burning any other fuel source, whether that's glucose/carbs/sugar OR fat/ketones until it gets metabolized. How long that takes depends on how much you are drinking. This is another thing that usually isn't a problem, and in our minds we think isn't a problem, but sometimes can still be a problem. Some of the artificial sweeteners are still cut with sugar, but if it's less than 0.5g they can round that down to zero on the label legally. Some people still experience a cephalic phase insulin response when tasting the sweetness of artificial sweeteners - that is, just the taste of something sweet causes the pancreas to squirt out some insulin in anticipation of carbs coming down the gullet. If you are one who's body does this and you are sipping them all day long, then you have a constant insulin response going on, and this will work against your fat loss efforts. Besides those small observations here is something else to consider: How often are you eating? Do you snack between meals? Even when you are eating carnivore, anytime you eat something, there will be either a glucose or insulin response. I can eat strict carnivore, but if I am nibbling on beef jerky, pork rinds, cheese, or leftovers every hour or two throughout the day, I will be up on the scale the next day. Ideally, you want to have a satisfying meal, and then give your body a break until the next meal, whether that's 1, 2, or 3 meals a day. Women do tend to lose it slower than men. Sometimes there are other issues at play that you can get bloodwork done for, such as testing your thyroid function or your sex hormone levels. Some people need medication/supplementation/therapy to address these issues, and then the weight starts coming off easier. Hope this helps! And welcome aboard!
  20. Out of curiosity what do you use to get it to mix, because in my mind fat and water is going to want to separate.
  21. So I did some tile work for a friend and to pay me back they took us out to eat today to a place called Silver Lake Country Club. It's a members only establishment. It was pretty tasty. I had a filet mignon with a salad wedge and I added a blackened salmon filet to dish as well for the extra meat/protein. This did mean I ingested some ranch (seed oil) today. I've had a little more plants lately than I prefer to deal with. I think the month of May is going to be either a personal lion diet or BBBE challenge for myself. I still want to lose 10 pounds and the pool opens Memorial Day, lol.
  22. Awesome! I smoked from summer 1993 to October 7th, 2000 and haven't touched one since. I quit a month before I turned 25. Social ME-dia. Me, me, me, me, look at me! 😄
  23. From the article.... "It didn’t take long before I started to come upon terms like “the hypertriglyceridemia of infection”, which gave a hint to the answer. Why would high triglycerides be important? Because these triglycerides are, by necessity, carried by lipoproteins! During infection, more fat is coming from fat tissue to the liver, and there is an increase in new fat being made in the liver, as well as an increase in production of cholesterol – all materials necessary for making lipoproteins like VLDL." It would be interesting to see if my trigs would shoot up when I get a cold or covid or something. I would probably have to go off my Fenofibrates and Niacin for a while though to establish a baseline.
  24. Welcome aboard. I did lose a bunch of weight, but the scale has remained idle since November. I have to credit it to a combination of carnivore, intermittent fasting, and an actual need to lose weight. In November, I had some blood work that scared me (you'll find the discussion about my triglycerides in the private area) and so I added back a third meal and some occasional snacking to stop the weight loss. Now I want to take off another 10+ but struggling to get back into my old pattern/habit. But I feel like a million dollars now, compared to a year ago when I felt like death, so I'm here to say 🙂 I've heard that women lose weight slower than men and it can discourage you. Don't be disparaged. Stick with it. We can toy with macros and fasting schedules and for some they need to get some labs done and see if there is an underlying health condition making it difficult for you to lose weight.
  25. Yes, it is new. We went live last September, so we're only 7 months old. I've been a forum junkie since the 90's and like you I prefer communities centered around topical based discussions. Social media really doesn't provide that. I can relate. When I first discovered low carb and keto, soy was revered as a wonderful substitute. I consumed lots of it back in the day. Awesome! These individuals that go carnivore cold turkey (that is, abruptly) - power to them. I couldn't have done it like that. I had to build on what I had learned in the low carb space and gradually adopt carnivore. And like you, I am in this for the long-haul, and I swear I will never go back to my former way of eating. Hi! 👋 My name is Bob, and I am from Northeast Ohio, USA.
