I eat butter. I also take sips from olive oil.

I´s been a habit to get a better fat/protein ratio. Our meat is so lean here in Finland, average beef has 3% of fat. Some pork may have 10%. And that comes with lots of protein, too much for me. I like about 80% energy from fat to lose weight.

Anyway,I eat a spoonful every now and then, maybe five spoonfuls /day to get about 35 grams extra fat. I do that especially on meaty days,I eat cheese too and for example our Feta cheese has EIGHT times more fat and much less protein than beef.

On OMAD I only eat butter in the evening, during the two eating hours. I consider a spoonful of butter a meal...

I don’t eat butter as a snack or meal but I do use it as a condiment. I go through about a stick a day or more. A lot of the meats I eat are venison so it’s very lean so I use it on the meat like a jam or spread. Same with burger, since most of the fat is rendered out in cooking.
I also like my eggs cooked in it.
I did eat about a tablespoon one time when I was experiencing a craving that just wouldn’t subside but haven’t since.
A lot of people make brown butter bites to snack on.
I don’t choose my butter by flavor. I’ve never tried different kinds to see if there’s a difference. I just buy the cheapest thing in the store that’s pure.

dang a stick a day ,  i tried some salted butter yesterday it was to salty for my tasted.  I ate about 7/8's of a lb. of hamburger and its renderings yesterday for dinner but didn't feel all that full after a couple of hours.  I think Ill try some unsalted butter as a snack.

I do the same butter condiment thing. And because I eat some salads,I pour the rendered fat on the salad as dressing, say, bacon and egg salad.

I don understand how people are eating 80% fat diets without adding tons of butter. It requires a stock of butter per day to make those ratios?

According to videos online carnivore diet is 80% fats. It makes no sense?

Hopefully we can get some feedback from others on that.  If left to myself I'd go with one gram per pound of ideal body weight per day and fill in the rest with butter and dairy carbs. If anyone thinks thats a bad plan I'm all ears.

I don’t think you quite understand the 80% fat  idea.
The foundation of the carnivore plan is to start with a 70/30 fat to protein ratio but that’s measured in the calories. Now I’m not a calorie guy but that’s averaged is how the ratio is calculated. So that means you should be getting 70% of your calories from fat and 30% from your protein.
There are more calories in one gram of fat than there is protein. So that breaks down to fat has 9 calories per gram and protein has 4 calories per gram. Do you aren’t eating as much fat physically as you think.
So to get an idea of how that might look in a piece of meat let’s look at the ribeye. A 16 oz ribeye with a good amount of fat on it will have about a 69-31% fat to protein ratio. That’s one of the reasons we love ribeye so much is because it’s already the perfect ratio for us.
The only time you need to add butter is if your meat is lean. I go through a lot of butter because I eat a lot of venison and venison is very lean.  Burgers will often render out most of their fat regardless of the fat to meat ratio so I add butter to my burgers.
Quite often if you just eat fatty meat, cooked in animal fats you will get plenty of fat.

I eat 1/2 stick or more per day.

usually Kerrygold unsalted. I think cheap butter is noticeably not as good as Kerrygold

for me butter is a flavoring

The first book I read about carnivore diet said to eat a good amount of butter first, then the portion of meat. This way the butter fills you up with calories and you eat less meat to feel full.

There’s some truth to that because butter is fat and fat is what satiates us.

    • "Marching into March with Much Motivation"

For this months challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to get up and move. Spring is in the air. The weather is getting better. Get out there and MOVE! Go for walks, hike some trails if they aren't too muddy. Or just make a goal to get on the treadmill or lift some weights more than usual throughout the month. Get in the habit now, and we just might have beach bodies when summer officially hits, lol.

Just like before, we encourage you to check in daily, and share what you have eaten, perhaps a weigh-in if you're willing, and enjoy in some small talk.

The March drawing will be for a 4-pack of Carnivore Bars!

Every Reply in this topic will count as an entry for this month's prize drawing. Back-to-back posts count as 1 entry as a counter to spamming.

Attending Monday night zoom also counts as a bonus entry. Being a supporter of our YouTube channel also gives you an entry.

    • Today is February 1st and marks the first day of "National Fasting February" - and yes, this is a thing. Google it!

For this month's challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to practice various forms of fasting throughout the month. The type of fasting you wish to do is entirely up to you. We are going to encourage INTERMITTENT FASTING, that is to put it simply, skipping a meal so that you are only eating 2 meals a day instead of the traditional 3 meals a day. The goal is to enjoy these meals within an 8 hour "feasting window" and then no food in the remaining 16 hours "fasting window" (in which 8 of those hours you should be sleeping).

An example is waking up at 7am, but waiting until 11am-noon for your first meal, and then having dinner at 6-7pm for your 2nd meal. Other people prefer to eat a breakfast, then a mid-day lunch, and skip dinner.

If you want to throw in a 24, 48, or 72 hour fast just to show off by all mean do so, lol.
