Hi everyone! My name is Ashley and I am a newbie to both the forum and the keto diet. My good friend @Cedric told me about this forum and encouraged me to join to help me with my keto diet journey so a huge thanks to him for guiding me to this amazing place.

My boyfriend and I decided to start the keto diet as he has done it before and he really enjoyed the outcome of it. I am new to the diet (and dieting in general) I have always been a pretty petit person who was a picky eater to begin with so I never really thought of a diet. However, a few years ago I've gained a lot of weight from both medications and poor diet and I am ready to shed some weight and go back to my 120lb weight. We've decided to do things a little differently though as we are not consuming any cheese, pasta or rice.

I am excited to be a part of this community and get to know others who are also dieting and learn the ways of the diet.

See you around,

If you don't mind, what are the medications you are taking and what conditions were they prescribed for?

Good choice with the pasta and the rice. They have got to go.

Cheese on the other hand is a toss up. It's generally considered safe and healthy on a keto, ketovore, or carnivore lifestyle. However, there are individuals who are addicted to cheese and can easily overeat cheese. Cheese is a dairy product - that is, made from milk, and milk is designed to fatten up a young mammal during it's formative years. So basically, if you can't control your dairy consumption due to addiction, it could be a roadblock to weight loss. Many of us though enjoy cheese just fine, we just treat it as a condiment and not the main course.

Generally speaking, you want to fill half your plate or more with fatty meat, and the other half or less with low carb veggies. Eat 2-3 meals a day with no snacking. Avoid all grains and refined sugar, which completely axes processed food. And then avoid or minimize seed oils as much as possible - the biggest obstacles being mayo and dressings, which are soybean oil based. You don't have to obsess over this, as a little here and there won't kill you, especially since you cut out all the seed oils from processed foods. But if you can, look for avocado oil based mayo and if you are a salad gal, find some true pure olive oil and vinegar.

Start there, and we will help you along the way.

I honestly can't remember the medications name but it was for insomnia. I found they did help me sleep but while I was awake all I wanted to do was stuff my face with anything and everything sweet and I never felt like I could get enough of it.

As for the cheese, I am French so for me there is no such thing as too much cheese or dairy products and I am lactose sensitive, so it really doesn't do me any good. I bloat A LOT and get constipated easily so it really was something that needed to go as sad as that is. For me it was almost an addiction where daily I would have dairy products and cheese and not just a bit of it so it would make me bloat immensely.

The tricky thing is, I'm not a huge meat person either. I don't really like most meat. I like pork and chicken that's about it, rarely I will eat beef but for the most part it's chicken and ham. I am however a huge veggie lover so there is no lacking in that.

The only refined sugar I allow myself to have is 1 Pepsi a day and usually it takes me 2 days to drink a Pepsi so I'm not really worried. As far as mayo and dressings which are soybean oil based I've never really been big on anyways so that hasn't been an issue to cut out. For now I do use a raspberry vinaigrette which isn't the best but isn't the worst and I only allow myself a small amount.

All together I haven't found it a struggle to stick to this diet (except for when I get my period, I tend to want more fatty/greasy things)

I appreciate your feedback and help with this diet as it is new to me and I'm still trying to find recipes and meals that fit our diet.

Cheers!

Welcome and congrats on your choices.

The carnivore and keto as well is more about what you are not eating and the focus should be on eliminating the sugars and carbs (or greatly lessening their amounts).

I'm 9 months in or Carnivore and have had a ton of positives.

I have learned and continue to learn a ton off this board. it is a great place to bounce around experiences and ideas and questions.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the warm welcome,

If you don't mind me asking, what was the reason behind wanting to start the carnivore diet? What is one thing you've learned from this board that you find would be helpful to know as a person who is new into this diet?

I look forward to reading your reply,

Thank again for the warm welcome!

Hopefully you'll realize trading for a little more sleep (which many have said a carni diet fixed) for the side effects you mentioned was a not so great trade.  welcome to the forum!!

My son introduced me to carnivore. He lost around 14-15 pounds in a couple three weeks or so. just eating eat sounded easy and I gave it a go with the sole purpose of losing weight. I didn't do any research. I just dove straight in and it took me a bit to start figuring out there was more to the diet than just eating meat and then, and more importantly, it can help with health issues that far outweigh the weight loss.

Once I stumbled onto this board the very first things I learned was the importance of salt and electrolytes. I was just eating meat and not doing anything to ensure hydration and electrolytes were adequate. Correcting these two helped with my adjustment to the diet. Maybe the next thing (after a few months and adjusting to meat, salt and water) I learned I can use fat to drive my stool from loose to normal with a decrease in fat and an increase will help me go a bit more regular if mu movements slow down.

As I type I am remembering different things I learned and one that pops out is having patience. I trashed myself for thirty-plus years but at times expect the magic pill/miracle cure and correct those thirty years in a couple weeks.

On a lighter note, I learned that eating once per day was a thing. I was eating once per day and did not know it had an actual name. I read it a couple times and had to look it up. I didn't even know it was a thing. And secondly, I lost weight/size in my feet. My $200 boots no longer fit as they should. My foot just rolls around on the inside when they are cinched up tight. I didn't know that was a possibility.

Hi ketomonster,

I would definitely be happy if I slept better once my body gets used to this diet 😃

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Oh wow! Well I'm happy for your son and I'm happy you decided to give the carni diet a try, seems like it is really working for you 😃

I have read a lot of health benefits from the keto diet and I'm glad my boyfriend & I decided to do the diet. I've been noticing a little less flab in the mid-section which is nice. I bloat very easily and haven't bloated since starting this diet.

Thank you for the heads up on the salt and electrolytes, I'll make sure to get plenty.

I can imagine having patience is a HUGE thing because you won't see results right away or even in the first few weeks. With any diet or exercise you can't expect change right away. It takes patience and persistence to get great results.

Ahh yes, eating once per day, I usually do that and that was even before the diet. I've never been one who eats a lot (other than when I mentioned I took meds that made me feel like the hungry hungry hippo.). I rarely eat 2 or even 3 meals a day as for me I just don't have the appetite for it.

Sorry to hear about your boots, it must be a little sad and disappointing that you paid so much for boots that no longer fit though it does mean that the diet is working. I'm hoping after a few months I can fit into my older clothes again. I haven't gotten rid of them in the hopes that I would fit in them again one day and I'm hoping this year it'll happen.

Thank you for all of the advice and being open about everything, I truly do appreciate it!

I hope to see you around the forum 😄

Cheers!
