I came out of the service in the 90's and I felt like I could not only lift the world but run around it a couple times if needed. I traded lean and fit for drunk and stupid. I quit drinking many years ago but ate a trash/dumpster diet my entire life. Babbling on to get to the point.

I think the gym is all about habits and addictions. When I first started going to the gym about 8 months ago, I definitely felt old and most definitely felt out of shape. As the weight peeled off and the workouts picked up in volume and intensity, I felt sore but not old (if that makes any sense at all).

Believe it or not at 55 I am stronger than I was when I was 25 or 35. I have more energy now than I have had in a really long time.

Now some 8 months later I have changed my diet to hit a protein target and morphed off the 'only full body workout' and now targeting muscles in a split. The gym is my new 'habit' and I doubt I am addicted but it does bother me if I miss a scheduled day to workout.

I am not sure if I feel better and younger, or just better.

Great question. I have answered it ten different ways in my head as I type. I'm going to think on it a bit and re-visit the thread later.

That’s an interesting question. I haven’t heard anyone ask that one before.
I’ve been slacking off all winter and have started walking and lifting weights again. I hate to admit it but I notice too much weakness and muscle loss.
It’s been difficult to get started but I am encouraged by how I feel afterwards.
I guess it’s hard for me to say if it makes me feel old because I am old. I definitely feel weak so that kinda makes me feel my age but I feel much better after a good walk or workout, especially the next day.
Maybe it’s just that it’s new to me again.
Could it be that you are just in a rut? Maybe you need to change things up. I don’t know what kind of workout routine you do but maybe a different type of exercise might get you motivated again. Maybe even take a little break from exercising for a while.
Are your energy levels good?
Could there be something in your diet that could be affecting your energy, motivation or mood?
Just throwing some things out there.

Those were some of the things going thru my head. After a hard workout am I sore because I worked out hard or I am older. it is hard to go back in time and say I could have lifted or did this much and not be sore, so maybe I feel older. Then, my brain flips and I think back then it would have taken more to get to the sore/worn out point and I would have been much younger, so it is the load not the age.

The it flips again and I am I feeling older after the gym or did I just not eat right or drink right leading up to the gym to make me 'feel older'?

I was doing hamstring work last week and cramped so bad it felt like my hamstrings and claves were lifting the weight without me helping, just by contracting. it was all I could do to get off the machine. I walked like Tim Conway golfing' all the way to the water fountain. One of the gym guys says, "you are not as young as you use to be". That is very true, but if I had drank water and ate slat like I should have I would have not cramped at all so in my mind age didn't factor (except maybe I am old enough to know better which is an entirely different problem, LOL).

Again, great question.

I'm still undecided. LOL

Im not sure, compared to what.  what i do know is when i jog shortly after i start my legs feel like they're full on concrete.  Maybe Im expecting to much to soon.  Im eating more now than ever since starting carni, Im going to continue that for a few more days then drop the calories and see if that breaks the stall im in. but I vote for exercise makes me feel older.

Yeah it sounds like you may need to experiment around with your diet.
I hope you get it figured out. It’s no fun having to force yourself to work out but kudos to you for powering on through and getting it done.

Not that I am a pro nor a personal trainer.

I would look into stretching and using bands vs. lifting weights or even machines. If it is a joint and bone issue that normally comes from current impact activity or the results of previous impact. Even swimming would be a good option.

I'd still move some things around in the diet and move the needle with fats and electrolytes for the energy concerns. It has only been ten months for me and I have made a number of adjustments, some intentional and some not so much. Dialing the fats and the electrolytes up and down seem to be my triggers. At some point I hope I can be smart enough to settle down into a more consistent approach. I'm experimenting and learning so that might be a few months down the road.

Good luck and I hope you find out what works best for you.

I slept most of the day and woke up sort of thinking on how I felt due to the current fast. That changed into the younger or better question.

I think I sort of landed on mentally I feel younger with all the positive benefits from Carnivore and the working out and physically I feel better with all the benefits from eating Carnivore and working out.

I am not sure I could have 'not answered the question' and straddle the proverbial fence any better than that. LOL

    • "Marching into March with Much Motivation"

For this months challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to get up and move. Spring is in the air. The weather is getting better. Get out there and MOVE! Go for walks, hike some trails if they aren't too muddy. Or just make a goal to get on the treadmill or lift some weights more than usual throughout the month. Get in the habit now, and we just might have beach bodies when summer officially hits, lol.

Just like before, we encourage you to check in daily, and share what you have eaten, perhaps a weigh-in if you're willing, and enjoy in some small talk.

The March drawing will be for a 4-pack of Carnivore Bars!

Every Reply in this topic will count as an entry for this month's prize drawing. Back-to-back posts count as 1 entry as a counter to spamming.

Attending Monday night zoom also counts as a bonus entry. Being a supporter of our YouTube channel also gives you an entry.

    • Today is February 1st and marks the first day of "National Fasting February" - and yes, this is a thing. Google it!

For this month's challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to practice various forms of fasting throughout the month. The type of fasting you wish to do is entirely up to you. We are going to encourage INTERMITTENT FASTING, that is to put it simply, skipping a meal so that you are only eating 2 meals a day instead of the traditional 3 meals a day. The goal is to enjoy these meals within an 8 hour "feasting window" and then no food in the remaining 16 hours "fasting window" (in which 8 of those hours you should be sleeping).

An example is waking up at 7am, but waiting until 11am-noon for your first meal, and then having dinner at 6-7pm for your 2nd meal. Other people prefer to eat a breakfast, then a mid-day lunch, and skip dinner.

If you want to throw in a 24, 48, or 72 hour fast just to show off by all mean do so, lol.
