Hello everyone. Very happy to have found this site. I'm only 5 days into a carnivore diet and no alcohol having been a heavy drinker for most of my life and all of the things those youtube channels tell you seem to be true. Feel like a new man.

Thanks Geezy! I'm just blown away by how different I'm feeling after only a few days. I woke up happy and looking forward to the day this morning! I can't remember the last time that happened.

It is amazing what eating a proper human diet does to not only our bodies but our brains.
Being only five days in you may encounter a few issues in the near future as your body transforms but just stay the course and allow your body to adjust as it needs to.
So what brought you to carnivore?

I'd been Vegan for many years until a year ago when I went to visit a buddy in Cushing, Oklahoma. I was staying at his folks place. They weren't drinkers and it was clear that I could forget being vegan whilst i was there. I stayed for a month, lots of meat and eggs, no alcohol, sleeping like a baby and felt so good I thought "this means something" 🙂 A year later and falling off the wagon too many times I decided last week that something has to change before i get irreversibly sick. I'm totally convinced that I'm going to stick to this. It's clear to me that this is the right way to live. A few of my vegan/vege friends are going to be disappointed but hey, this just makes sense.

Sometimes stumbling upon the answer is better than a well thought out plan.

I'm ten months in and I had no idea the benefits that were just sitting out there waiting for me to make better decisions.

Welcome. And congrats on the first five days.

I like your enthusiasm.
Your body was telling you what you needed and you were smart to listen to it. As you continue to learn you’ll be even more convinced that this is the proper human diet.

It’s too bad that your friends might be disappointed but this isn’t about them it’s about you and your health. Who knows, you might even convert some of them to join our team after they see how good you are doing.

Welcome aboard Jesse! It's been about a week now. How are you fairing with the changes?

Hi Bob. I'm 16 days in now with the "diet" and no alcohol and I haven't felt this good in years. Apart from losing a few Kilograms already, my mood is consistently positive, lots of aches and pains that have plagued me for many years have pretty much gone, I'm convinced that my eyesight has improved a little and many other good changes. The only concerns I have if you can call them that is that going to the bathroom has become a rare and occasionally "interesting" experience and my sleep is a bit broken but I'm assuming that's more than likely my brain adjusting after years of heavy drinking. I think what I'd like to do next is understand the science behind this lifestyle a little better. One of the main reasons I'm doing this is to lose weight and I'd like to understand fat to protein ratios, what the best amount to eat is in a day and all of that sort of business.

Congrats on the 16 days.

Just chiming in with my personal experiences. Most of my bathroom issues have been caused and corrected by fat intake. If my fat intake drops, not really intentionally, but if I eat less fatty cuts of meat like pork and chicken my trips to the bathroom slow down and have had some constipation at times. When I increase the fat intake per meal I sometimes overcompensate. From there the trips get more frequent and sometimes feel downright violent. Like, I feel like I can go for distance. My biggest issue is that I eat a lot of fat as a norm, and I get adjusted to that, so a couple days fall off and things slow down. In the beginning there was no real pattern as I was adjusting to carnivore, Hydration and electrolytes were nowhere near correct so my frequency to the bathroom was all over the place, and a couple times I literally mean, "all over the place".

As far as the science and adjusting proteins to fats most of that will be based on you as an individual. With carnivore, the principles for me and you are pretty much the same, but after the principles there is not much that is 'cookie cutter' between individuals. If I eat X amount of fat to X amount of meat and do fine, that same ration may send you to the bathroom either hoping for a movement, or even hoping you get there in time for the movement. It is probably not that exaggerated but things will be different for each of us with actual amounts.

As far as learning, I am still in the process of learning after ten months, but I feel like I'm studying for my Carnivore Degree from the University of Google and the You Tube School of Medicine. There are tons of information out there. And like anything you will have to weed thru the good and the bad. As of late I have been reading and watching videos from Dr. Tony Hampton. Dr. Chaffee and Dr. Shaun Baker are great resources. I am currently reading Dr. Baker's book as well. Dr. Berg and Dr. Ken Berry as well. ( I still watch but at times Dr. Berry is starting feel 'commercial'. But I can't fault anyone for finding a few $$$ that are floating out there)

After ten months I have yet to dial in on where my "diet" will change to a "lifestyle". I lost 92lbs in about 10 months. I went from 306 to 214 and the last month has been bouncing between 215 and 222. I'm off the prednisone and Neurontin for NMO/SD (autoimmune disease). I feel better than I have in years. I started off with the basic "eat when I am hungry and eat til I am full" approach and that morphed into eating once per day. Then I started trying to build muscle, so I am cramming in the protein to hit a target. As far as moving weights in the gym I am stronger now at 55 than I was at 25-35. I have coupled the mass eating with long fasting. I have done two 72 hour fasts and one 96-hour stretch. All three were great but how I felt from 72 hours to 96 hours was more than amazing.

Babbling on, but your journey will be your journey. Mine has been all over the place as I continue to dial in trying to get to the carnivore lifestyle and no longer consider myself on a carnivore diet.

Best of luck. Congrats on the 16 days. You will figure out the bathroom stuff in time. This is a great place to bounce ideas around and see what is working and not working for others. (Maybe the only place where POOP can be a large part of a conversation). LOL

Perfectly normal as a carnivore. Because what eat is so nutritious and bioavailable most of what we eat is absorbed or utilized by our body. The only reason we defecated so much when we ate the SAD was because most of what we ate, such as fiber, couldn’t be used by our bodies so it was just expelled.
If you experience loose bowels in the beginning it’s usually because your gut biome is trying to adapt to digesting a diet of only fat and protein. After a month or so it should straighten itself out. If you just aren’t going as frequently it doesn’t mean it’s constipation unless you have a strong urge to go but you just can’t get anything to come out and when it does it’s hard and gravely.

Bob just released an excellent video on this very thing.

Welcome Binny. You'll be OK. Give up drinking one day at a time. You don't need a drink today. Then tomorrow start by doing the same thing.

Also, one reason we are here is that we give things up. We get good at it. I started by giving up Drugs, then I gave up Smoking, next was Booze, then Carbs, Last thing I gave up was plants.

    • "Marching into March with Much Motivation"

For this months challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to get up and move. Spring is in the air. The weather is getting better. Get out there and MOVE! Go for walks, hike some trails if they aren't too muddy. Or just make a goal to get on the treadmill or lift some weights more than usual throughout the month. Get in the habit now, and we just might have beach bodies when summer officially hits, lol.

Just like before, we encourage you to check in daily, and share what you have eaten, perhaps a weigh-in if you're willing, and enjoy in some small talk.

The March drawing will be for a 4-pack of Carnivore Bars!

Every Reply in this topic will count as an entry for this month's prize drawing. Back-to-back posts count as 1 entry as a counter to spamming.

Attending Monday night zoom also counts as a bonus entry. Being a supporter of our YouTube channel also gives you an entry.

    • Today is February 1st and marks the first day of "National Fasting February" - and yes, this is a thing. Google it!

For this month's challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to practice various forms of fasting throughout the month. The type of fasting you wish to do is entirely up to you. We are going to encourage INTERMITTENT FASTING, that is to put it simply, skipping a meal so that you are only eating 2 meals a day instead of the traditional 3 meals a day. The goal is to enjoy these meals within an 8 hour "feasting window" and then no food in the remaining 16 hours "fasting window" (in which 8 of those hours you should be sleeping).

An example is waking up at 7am, but waiting until 11am-noon for your first meal, and then having dinner at 6-7pm for your 2nd meal. Other people prefer to eat a breakfast, then a mid-day lunch, and skip dinner.

If you want to throw in a 24, 48, or 72 hour fast just to show off by all mean do so, lol.
