Hey folks,

I've noticed that I have been feeling a little constipated at times lately and it got me wondering if different types of fat are better or worse when it comes to avoiding constipation.

I've been wondering about Butter, Lard, Tallow, Ghee.

Sure, I can address my issue in some way with better hydration, but I'm still curious about whether the fats mentioned all have the same effect

Anyone got any opinions? Literature?

I'm going to guess it comes down to the individual.

For me it is butter. If the butter intake eases up some I start getting a bit loose.

The other fats are usually with their respective meat and it does not bother me as much, if any at all.

I made some beef tallow to use with cooking and it does not affect me the same as butter.

Just me, no literature or data to support.

I’ve never heard one way or the other.
The general consensus is just add fat in any form. On a daily basis my fats will range from butter to tallow to bacon grease and MCT oil. I would have to experiment to find if one is better that the other. I just make sure that I have plenty of fat with everything I eat.

Have you tried drinking hot water? I vote for butter as fat of choice.

Does caffinate tea count?

I drink about 2-4 cups per day

I've been meaning to get me some tallow! Never cooked with it before.

So you're saying if you eat LESS fat your BM get looser?

It's the opposite for me. Not enough fats and I get backed up

Actually, talking of MCT!

I have some of that but haven't used it in a while. I really should add some to any tea and coffee I have.

Professor google say "tea leaves also contain tannins and a chemical called theophylline, which are said to have dehydrating effects on stools as they pass through the intestinal tracts. This can hinder the passing of stools."

But mom!
I like tea! It's good for my soul...

Haha.
Yeah, I feel it's just a weaker coffee in terms of the dehydrating effects.
I'll try adding MCT to it and any coffee's I have to see it that helps, but if not then I will reluctantly scale back on those beautiful beverages 😅

If hooking myself up to a saline IV while I slept was cost effective then I'd probably rather that over giving up tea/coffee!
THAT'S how much I love it 🤣

Nowler you have the right attitude. I’m proud of you that you are willing to do what needs to be done to become metabolically healthy. So many aren’t willing to give up things that give them pleasure. With that mindset you cannot fail.

Thanks for the kind words Bud!

For too long I WAS one of those not willing to do what was needed!
Thankfully I seem to have found great motivation in the past few months and the results are encouraging me to continue.

People just need to avoid giving up...
What's that saying?... if you throw enough mud at the wall, eventually some will stick.
Gotta keep trying man!

Butter works for me.
