  1. Did you get a loading dose of iodine BEFORE you started your 24 hour urine collection? The idea is to give you a loading dose, and then see how much is excreted over the next 24 hours. If very little is excreted, then this indicates most of it was absorbed which may signal iodine deficiency. But if you never received the loading dose, the urine collection tells us nothing. The next question then becomes 'How much iodine are you taking? What kind? Brand? and concentration?'. And also "How much salt are you loading up with? What kind? What brand?" You could be overdoing/overdosing both.
  2. How do you know you need to supplement iodine? What is your reason for salt loading? Are you aware that salt loading is should only be done over a short period of time and not something you maintain at length? Before anyone starts supplementing iodine, I recommend you get some lab work to see if you even need to. BOTH iodine deficiency AND excess iodine can cause high blood pressure. That salt/sodium also increases blood pressure is pretty well known also. As carnivores we don't usually care because 1) we're getting a lot less sodium now that we have abandoned fast food and dining out for the most part, so we are actually getting less even if we salt to taste, and 2) the rise in blood pressure is temporary and comes back down. But if you are constantly salt loading you might night be giving your body and kidneys enough time to excrete the excess.
  3. From the article.... That's it? 🤣 I am waaaay above average, lol.

  5. Probably a combination of factors going on here. #1 on the list is simple sugars/carbs. Yes, those get prioritized first by the body. Depending on the sugar, it can get taken directly into the cells and fat burning ceases. Over consumption and it starts turning into fat cells for storage. Then when the sugar runs out the body signals that it's hungry because the fuel is gone and fat burning was shut off. You have to suffer through it until fat burning turns back on. #2 on the list could be fat:protein ratios. Does the protein drink have any significant fat content? Not likely, since it's a *protein" drink. Excess protein will convert to glucose via gluconeogenesis. Bascially the protein drink is like eating a lean chicken breast - with almost no fat you're hungry again an hour later. #3 on the list would be that it's a liquid. It's already digested for you at the factory. So it doesn't stick around long in your stomach. It's like squirting lighter fluid on a fire. It burns up super fast and then the flame goes back out, lol.
  6. So I enjoy seeing some of the recent news and having people with accurate knowledge making changes. But I do have to wonder will the next administration swing back to the left and undo everything. This is kinda the way it happens with everything else in politics, lol.
  7. My thoughts are in agreement with what has been said above already. Electrolytes are something that is very much needed in the beginning, especially when transitioning to a carnivore diet. But as time goes on the need for electrolytes decreases. Try reducing your LMNT to once a day instead and then if you still feel fine with the reduced consumption then reduce it again to one every other day, etc. Remember you can get an electrolyte panel and see what your electrolyte needs are. You may need to reduce one, and maybe raise another, and if that is the case you will have to resort to individual supplements instead of a product that blends them altogether. Coffee is a known culprit. Coffee stimulates colon contractions, and caffeine can give some people a slippery slope in their insides, lol. But even decaf can have a laxative effect. It could be that after 2 years-ish of healing, now you're becoming sensitive to the toxins in coffee. Many of us who are strict carnivore notice that they become more sensitive to various plant products over time.
  8. I fixed the link and embedded it in the post above. So while I am on board with high fructose corn syrup being worse then sugar, in reality it won't change much. If people keep consuming the same amount of high carbohydrate sodas they were before, this switch to can sugar will not make much of a differnce to them, if any.
  9. Let's smoke.... some meats, lol. Dr. Berry makes great content with his down to earth common sense explanations.
  10. Sounds delicious! Welcome aboard @Karen s
  11. Welcome @Carnivore Chef and @Kat7 to Carnivore Talk! :) That's where I currently sit. While most days I am beef, butter, sausage, and eggs, with salt, I am not averse to seasonings and I still drink diet beverages. A couple times a month the family will go out and I might choose to "cheat" with keto. I'm not anti-plant, but I keep them at a distance and don't let them become my buddies anymore, lol. Here we're friendly towards anyone who is into a carnivore-centric (i.e. meat-based) diet, whether that's keto, ketovore, animal-based, or strictly flesh only.
  12. And here's a belated welcome from me. I am self-employed with a construction business that has to keep 4 people busy, and its peak season for me so I am a little behind on the interwebs and social media lately. I'll put your interview in my playlist and give it a listen.
  13. Welcome to Carnivore Talk :) My adaptation period lasted about 6+ weeks, during which time I didn't know if I was going to sit down and drop a few constipated gravel pellets or if I was going to explode with enough pressure to levitate off the seat. It was very unpredictable. But eventually, things returned to my new normal, which is going every 2-3 days on average with normal consistency. There is occasionally a loose stool situation which could be too much fat, meat that's gone bad, or a virus: I never really know. The fatigue could be a sign that you're not eating enough. You admitted to having a low appetite. It could also be that you could benefit from some Keto Choe Daily Minerals or a couple LMNT packets mixed with water throughout the day to replenish your electrolytes. It's common for folks to need these in the beginning, and then as time goes on you're able to get along without them.
  14. No. At least I don't do that intentionally. An average day for me is eggs and sausage for breakfast, then in the afternoon nibbling on beef jerky, and then a new york strip for dinner. I wouldn't think that "splitting my protein" or intermittent fasting would have any effect. The toxins that build up in the blood, creatinine, Cystatin C, prosperous, BUN, etc, are going to be pretty consistent because my filtration rate remains constant. From what I understand, BUN and creatinine are pretty harmless even in my concentrations. My phosphorous is a little higher than I would like, but it's much lower than it was at the end of last year.
  15. Nick requested his account to be deactivated several weeks back. On a PC, you can see it say "Deactivated Account" under his avatar. On mobile I think you would have to click on his profile.
  16. Last night the wife and I went to Red Lobster. We hadn't been there in ages. For an appetizer, I had 4 giant sea scallops wrapped in bacon. My main course was one of their new seafood boils. It was pretty tasty and definitely a valiant effort on the part of Red Lobster, but I still must give the edge to another local place we frequent called A+ Crab.

  18. The video clip is like 1/2 a second and almost impossible to see or read, so I managed to pause it and it looks like the brand is "Pro Iron"
  19. I hope you find that article. Your recap was very interesting. I even saved a copy of it for later reference.
  20. Oxtail - I've never tried it. Sounds unique. I hit up the NY Strips last night. Was even still eating it when the live stream started, lol.

  22. Here's an interesting quote from an MSN article... This reminded me of a scene in the movie Little Women in 1994. The mother and her 3 daughters become destitute after the man of the house dies. In one scene, someone brings them food and among what he brings is a giant load/roll of bread, and one of the girls is like "Oh my God! It's actually real bread" implying they haven't had bread in a long time because it was a luxury. It took a lot of investment and time to grow it, harvest it, mill it, separate the wheat from the chaff, make a flour, bake it, etc. Yes, we may have at bread, but it wasn't nearly as common as it is today, and was far more valuable than 99 cents a loaf, lol.
  23. Ha! How awesome is that? :)
  24. I'd eat it And that sounds like a good book too. I've seen a few of his vids over the last couple years. Good stuff!
