  1. It's now February 1st, and any further comments on this post do not count as entries. I will tally up all entries and share them shortly.
  2. Thanks Geoff. This was actually a lot of fun to record and edit. It wasn't gonna be my next video, but I had to react when I saw this in the news, lol.
  3. The news media is blaming the Carnivore Diet for a man from Tampa, Florida, who developed xanthelasma, a condition where yellowish, fatty deposits form under the skin. His alleged diet was admittedly extreme, which involved consuming 6-9 pounds of cheese on a daily basis, as well as multiple sticks of butter, and hamburgers with extra fat mixed in the minced meat. Apparently his cholesterol levels skyrocketed to over 1000 mg/dL, significantly higher than the normal level of less than 200 mg/dL2. Is this story true? Could other underlying conditions be at the root of his xanthelasma? Was he REALLY following a true carnivore diet? Is the carnivore diet safe and beneficial. We touch on all these questions and issues in this video. JOIN OUR FREE KETO/CARNIVORE COMMUNITY! https://www.CarnivoreTalk.com WE DO GIVEAWAYS AND PRIZES EVERY MONTH! LET"S DO A VIDEO TOGETHER! 5. Welcome to the tribe!
  6. Welcome aboard Lauren. Your still relatively new to the way of eating, even after 3 weeks. The adaptation/transition period, characterized by the unpredictable back and forth between feelings of constipation and diarrhea, and lethargy is typically 3-6 weeks. It was almost 2 months for me. Even then, fat adaptation takes time. When I started the carnivore diet I had a broken ankle, so I was sitting around and napping often anyway, so I can't say if I experienced the same thing. Carb Manager is a handy app and it is free to download and use on a smart phone (at least on Andriod). You can track your calories (not so important) and macros with it to be sure. You want to aim for 30% calories from protein, 70% calories from fat, and 0% (-ish) calories from carbs. This can be accomplished with a 1g of fat per 1g of protein ratio. Your menu looks alright but I would double check the cottage cheese, cream cheese and homemade buffalo sauce for any hidden carbs or sugars. Congrats on your first 10 lbs. Is it your aim to lose weight?
  7. Welcome aboard Manuel! This is good. Glad to hear it! If you're in a northern climate like me, it could be the cold. January is being brutal to us this year where I live. My lipped are chapped. My legs itch from dry skin, etc. Also remember that you initially lose a lot of water and water weight, because you are not consuming carboHYDRATEs. This is why a lot of us drink a little extra water and take an electrolyte supplement in the beginning of our carnivore journey. You might want to consider doing the same to ensure that you are not dehydrated or mineral deficient. This could be. When I was obese I had smooth skin because of the fat in my face. When I lost the weight, I got wrinkles, lol.
  8. Yes, Dr. Berry's comments need to be taken in their context. He is saying that you can do a carnivore diet even with cheap cuts of meat, including hot dogs, and still see the beneficial effects. Meat is meat, and some hot dogs actually contain nutritious bits of meats that often get tossed out or overlooked, such as organ meats. At the same time, you have to look at the ingredients lists, and many cheap hotdogs contain fillers, seed oils, cornstarch, etc. And yes, he is contrasting a "hot dog and bologna" diet with that of a standard American diet of cookies, cakes, pasta, pies, chips, snacks, etc. The cheap meat-based diet is the better alternative and might improve your health. BUT... he's not a strict carnivore. He advocates what he has coined as "The Proper Human Diet" which is a spectrum of carnivore on the one end, and up to 100g of all-natural carbohydrate on the other end, depending on your personal physiology. That's why I talk about a "carnivore-centric" diet here, because I am willing to acknowledge that while human physiology definitely favors that of a carnivore, we still designed and equipped to handle some vegetation, and have been eating plants just as long as we've been eating meat and breathing air.
  9. I believe this is a massive factor - removing the processed junk food - those that contain the unholy trinity of grains, seed oils, and refined sugar. I've heard it said that if you just shop the perimeter of the grocery store, where there only natural meats, cheeses, fruits, and vegetables, and avoid the center of the store, where there is pasta, cakes, cookies, pies, chips, bread, etc, then you will fair well. In general, I agree with this, while at the same time acknowledging that certain individuals may have unique needs and circumstances that require them to be even more strict.
  10. That's the next thing I am going to learn about. I heard you can make perfect steaks every time.
  11. Yes, @Orweller is correct in that we do Zoom every Monday at 8pm Eastern Time. There are several ways to get in... 1) I've put an announcement message at the top of the page and in the sidebar, which takes you to the post with the link. 2) The post with the link is pinned in the Private Chat, Meetups, Hangouts, and Livestreams forum. 3) You can find it in our Community Calendar under the Events menu option. 4) If you save the Meeting ID and Password in your Zoom client, you can just open Zoom and connect straight from there. Remember, attendees for the Zoom meeting (more like informal friendly discussion) get bonus entries for the monthly giveaway. @Geezy @Qapla @Orweller @setsuko @Lina @mauricette @Meathead @Marilda Tuomala

  13. Hello jsmith! You can be successful on the carnivore diet without a gallbladder. Some individuals have no problem whatsoever. Others may employ some strategy, such as.... 1) It smaller meals more frequently - so your body can keep up with bile production. 2) Eat leaner cuts (you still need fat, you just have to space it out). 2) Take ox bile supplements with your meals. This does not put too much stress on the liver. Your liver will adapt to the increase in fat consumption, and will ramp up bile production accordingly. This adaptation will take a little time, but you will get there. And then kidney cysts are usually harmless. They only need addressed if they are infected, bleeding, or getting larger.
  14. Welcome aboard @Scott A Plateaus happen. Sometimes, your body is focusing on body recomposition or healing instead of losing weight. I've had times where my weight loss was stalled and yet I was still dropping notches on my belt. And then of course, we need to take a closer look at your diet. How many meals are you eating? Do you snack between meals? Do you eat late and then go to sleep on it? What are you eating? How strict is your carnivore or carnivore-centric diet when it comes to spices, sauces, dips, dairy, artificially sweetened beverages, or plant matter?
  15. Welcome aboard Joel! For me it was about 6 weeks. I would go for DAYS without having to go. Sometimes I would even think I have to go, sit down, and nothing would happen (Phantom poopie, lol). The longest stretch was 9 days without a bowel movement. When I did have bowel movements, it was unpredictable whether it was going to be diarrhea or if it was going to have the consitency of driveway gravel. But eventually everything returned to my *new* normal, which is having a normal movement typically 3 times a week - ish.
  16. This is accurate. On very rare occasions, I might have fruit or honey. If I overdo it, I start to get depressed and think strange thoughts. The more I avoid carbs, the more sane in the brain I am, lol.
  17. Nick Norwitz. He's worth subscribing to. He has great information. 16*31 = 496. I'm certain you've been awarded 2nd place
  18. Ah, good point. I didn't think about that - a strategy to try and claim all the Tiktok users when it goes dark, lol.
  19. I always like to add that if he is actively losing weight, those numbers tend to spike as LDL is released from adipose tissue into the blood stream. After some time, especially after being weight-stable for a while, those numbers tend to come back down. The exception being those who are "Lean Mass Hyper Responders". Even then, LDL by itself is not harmful. The book "The Great Cholesterol Myth" is a fantastic read for a deep dive into this subject. That is a fantastic strategy. A keto, ketovore, animal-based, and even paleo styled diets that are devoid of processed grains, refined sugars, and seed oils (as much as possible) still fall under the "Proper Human Diet" spectrum. That is awesome. Keep doing what you are doing.
  20. I'm just catching up on this topic and wanted to mention that sugar is indeed a drug. They say that sugar addiction rivals that of your strongest and most addictive street drugs. And the withdrawals symptoms of cutting them out is akin to the withdrawal symptoms of 'going clean'. So the drug analogy is very apropos.
  21. I feel the same way with carbs as I do with tobacco. I'm a carb addict. I admit it. You know and I know that if I eat them it's going to make me want more. And so like any addict it's best for me if I just stay away from them. Now my wife, on the on the other hand, she's a moderator. She can eat one scoop of ice cream and not touch ice cream again for a month. Doesn't bother her a bit. Me? I'm taking out a whole half gallon in one sitting. You know if I eat one spoonful, I'm going for the rest of it. So for me, I ain't adding nothing back in. 22. I was going club footed. I couldn't hardly walk anymore. Finally had to have surgery on that, and I just let everything go until carnivore came along. And my son was the one that introduced it to me after my last AFib attack. I told him the story of lying there on the gurney while they're while a team of doctors and nurses are working on my heart, trying to get me back in rhythm. And I got tears streaming out of my eyes, and I just turned to my wife and I said "This is it! I can't take this anymore. I'm done!" My son came home from the oil fields about a week or 2 later. And he asked me, "Dad, is this going to shorten your life?" And I said "yeah more than likely." I said I'm definitely at a five to 6 times higher risk for stroke because of this. And he says "I'd like to tell you something if you're willing to listen to me with an open mind." I said sure I can do that and so he explained to me about proper nutrition, eating right, and carnivore. And he just didn't tell me about it or how to do it. He sent me videos from the top doctors, you know, Chaffee, Baker, and Berry - and then he sent me research and websites to look at. So I was able to do my research and get it down firmly in my mind that this is what I needed to do and I've never looked back. 23. So I'm going to go check my cystatin C, and my gut's telling me that my cystatin C is going to come back and still say twenty three, and that I'm fine. But I will tell you that when I opened up my test results on Friday and I saw the creatinine was 7.81 and the eGFR was 8 that shook me up. That did shake me up a bit and I'm just kind of like 'OK try not to let it get to your head.' Let's do some more blood work first you know before I get out of control because like I still feel fine. I sleep fine. I wake up fine. I go to work fine. I'm not nauseous. I don't have the sweats. I don't throw up. I have no symptoms. I have 0 symptoms of chronic kidney disease. So obviously I have chronic kidney disease, but yeah, that was scary as all get out. Which is going to be kind of a bummer because it's going to kind of negate the kidney video I made if I if I've actually if I've actually lost ground and I'm going to need a transplant or something like that, which I hope not. But if I get the test and the cystatin C and my eGFR is 23 and all my other markers are good .... 24. Pink slime is still being used in hundreds of meat products worldwide as a food additive or filler. Pink slime refers to boneless lean beef trimmings and finely textured beef, which are meat byproducts used in ground beef, sausages, hot dogs, and deli meats. The United States Department of Agriculture has reclassified the product once referred to as “pink slime” or “lean finely textured beef” as simply “ground beef”. You are likely still consuming "pink slime" from a variety of the foods you eat. However, there is one fast food chain that stopped using it all the way back in 2011.
