Could incorporating insects into a carnivore diet provide additional nutritional advantages or break taboos regarding food sources within this community?

No, I don’t believe that eating insects could provide additional nutritional advantages to the carnivore lifestyle.
Ruminant meats provide all of the nutrition that the human body needs for optimal health.
I’ve eaten insects either in survival training or in visiting other countries where it’s the norm and I am not a fan of eating them. If it was a matter of survival I know I can eat them but given a choice I’ll pass.

There are no rules to eating the way we do but there are guidelines. Carnivore is a diet that consists of eating a diet high in animal fats. A moderate amount of animal protein. Plenty of salt and water. Each individual can eat whatever they want and we won’t judge so if you want to eat bugs then more power to you.

The first health concern when consuming insects is mycotoxins, mainly due to their carcinogenic effect on the human body when consumed. And people with shell-fish allergies should not even attempt to eat them. Furthermore, insect contain chitin and cannot be fully processed by the human body, we simply do not have the enzymes. It's like eating fiber or cellulose, often avoided on carnivore, for several reasons. Why put something in your body it cannot fully digest? I'd say that eating insects is much closer to eating plants, as they are likewise not fully digestible, known to cause all kinds of trouble.

A study in mice and rats they did find an enzyme that allegedly insures full digestion of chitin, however, we are not mice, nor rats.

When considering eating insect, consider possible risk which may include, infection, urinary stone formation, respiratory disease, parasites, and possible allergic reactions.

I wouldn't consider it a pragmatic solution to any diet, with too many unanswered questions, while too many possible risks.

On the other side, the possible benefits of eating edible insects may lower your LDL. But then again, so does eating Oreo cookies, take your pick.

Can eating insects provide nutritional advances? Perhaps, but compared to meat? It would be pointless.

No. This isn't to say that insect protein and insect consumption isn't nutritious. It certainly can be. But it doesn't offer any advantage over typical mammal, bird, and aquatic animals. It's just another alternate source of food... if needed.

    • "Marching into March with Much Motivation"

For this months challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to get up and move. Spring is in the air. The weather is getting better. Get out there and MOVE! Go for walks, hike some trails if they aren't too muddy. Or just make a goal to get on the treadmill or lift some weights more than usual throughout the month. Get in the habit now, and we just might have beach bodies when summer officially hits, lol.

Just like before, we encourage you to check in daily, and share what you have eaten, perhaps a weigh-in if you're willing, and enjoy in some small talk.

The March drawing will be for a 4-pack of Carnivore Bars!

Every Reply in this topic will count as an entry for this month's prize drawing. Back-to-back posts count as 1 entry as a counter to spamming.

Attending Monday night zoom also counts as a bonus entry. Being a supporter of our YouTube channel also gives you an entry.

    • Today is February 1st and marks the first day of "National Fasting February" - and yes, this is a thing. Google it!

For this month's challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to practice various forms of fasting throughout the month. The type of fasting you wish to do is entirely up to you. We are going to encourage INTERMITTENT FASTING, that is to put it simply, skipping a meal so that you are only eating 2 meals a day instead of the traditional 3 meals a day. The goal is to enjoy these meals within an 8 hour "feasting window" and then no food in the remaining 16 hours "fasting window" (in which 8 of those hours you should be sleeping).

An example is waking up at 7am, but waiting until 11am-noon for your first meal, and then having dinner at 6-7pm for your 2nd meal. Other people prefer to eat a breakfast, then a mid-day lunch, and skip dinner.

If you want to throw in a 24, 48, or 72 hour fast just to show off by all mean do so, lol.
