I would like to entitle this thread tooth and gum and mouth health. I just ordered some Zellies after reading the ingredients of Trident. One of the ingredients is bioengineered food ingredient.  I find that rather spooky.  Anyway this thread is about if you have had good experiences with Xylitol and tooth health.

I have no experience with it myself as I don’t chew gum but supposedly Xylitol is derived from natural sugars but doesn’t cause blood sugar spikes and has no calories.
I know that for those of us that avoid all sugars a sweeteners anything sweet has the potential to kick off a craving for something sweet.
If that wouldn’t bother you then you could always give it a try and see if it affects you. If it does then it’s easy to just stop.
As carnivores we often come across things that are not pure carnivore but if they don’t affect our metabolism or put on weight then it’s really no big deal. I’m pretty strict in my diet but I do allow indulgences now and then. I’ll still eat some jalapeños once in a while.

I have heard from many carnivores that have abstained from all sweets for a long time that the first time they eat something sweet that it is overpowering to them in the sweetness.
It’ll be interesting to see how it affects you.

I just had Zellies gum today and compared to trident its hardly sweet. I think 1 gr. of xylitol per piece. Myself It didn't make me want to eat a cake or anything. Im chewing it because its suppose to help with mouth health. I guess Ill know in 6 months.

Good deal.

I chew sugar free gum, which contains xylitol I believe, a few times a week. It doesn't bother me unless I go through stick after stick. Then it adds up and gives me gas.

For mouth health I only use Boka (hydroxyapatite toothpaste), Therabreath mouth-wash (on occasion), and Dr. Tung's smart floss (Teflon free). That's it.

Not a gum chewer. While I see the benefits for oral health, I would be concerned with digestive disruption, having a constant stream of sugar alcohol and the act of chewing, the digestive system will respond. If you have liver/heart issues, I would stay away from the stuff (xylitol) as well. Use with care I'd say.

I started to following ellie phillips dental protocol and after 4 days my gums really hurt, so I quit.  So Orweller have you noticed and differences using boka? what are the differences? thanks

The best routine for your teeth is being carnivore. Being low to no carb, a "routine" that evolves around a sugar alcohol sounds redundant and unnecessary risk taking to me.

Boka's been amazing for me. Yes, a $10 tube. But my teeth feel cleaner than ever. And most importantly, it is fluoride free. The nano-hydroxy apatite will help re-mineralize enamel, exactly like fluoride does, but without the damage fluoride does, ie. diminishing iodine absorption, etc.

I used to have to use the Sensodyne for sensitive teeth, but my teeth are no longer sensitive, probably due to carnivore. I will never switch back again, especially after finding out they've used it in Europe and Japan for a long time now. Nano-hydroxyapatite is completely safe as opposed to fluoride.

DO NOT LET ANY DOGS or CATS NEAR XYLITOL. IT WILL KILL THEM!

After a lifetime of not taking care of my teeth and a mouth full of fillings and several crowns I started using xylitol and the results have been amazing for me. No more mouth pains and my teeth now look good. I've been using it for about 2 years. I make my own xylitol pieces (for lack of a better name) by filling a silicone candy mold with powdered xylitol and then placing in a 300'F oven for about 30 minutes. Let these cool slowly over about 24 hours and they will solidify into chunks that are easier to use. It helps to sprinkle a little powdered xylitol on the hot liquid xylitol to start the crystallization process. I switched my toothpaste to BOCA brand and that has been great also.

My wife says her teeth become too sensitive while using the BOCA brand so she has went back to regular fluoride toothpaste.

Yes around $10 a tube but a crown and root canal is now around $2K, so......................  Pay me now, or pay me later.

I didn’t know xylitol was dangerous for pets. That’s good to know. I don’t use it myself but still good to know.
The only sweetener I have in the house is some Allulose and I only use that for Kiltz’s ice cream when I make it for my mother in law.

I won't have Xylitol in the house because it's lethal to dogs. I do use a little stevia though

Another good reason not to use it. It causes an insulin release that can lead to liver failure in dogs. For us, it is less toxic. Less toxic. "Deemed safe". Does not sound like something I would want to ingest. A micro poison.

Xylitol is only at all useful because it will help kill the bacteria feeding on the carbs in your mouth and your throat that produce the acid that eats teeth.

If you eat carbs and you clean your mouth enough you will get by, but small pockets of bacteria will cause regrowth.

If you don't eat the carbs and especially sugars, the bacteria will starve and problem solved. you may still get tarter buildup but no bacteria that produce acid.
