I saw thread about swearing on forums, but what about TV?
Do you think they should lighten up on the censors? What words should be allowed and what shouldn't?
Do you think after a certain time (maybe 10pm?) all words should be fair game?

I personally don’t like it. But..I also believe in free speech. I also believe in self discipline. I also believe in choosing to watch what you want to watch and turning of what you don’t like.
If all of those people who didn’t like it would just quit watching those shows instead of supporting it even though they dislike what it does then these shows would tone it down as they lost advertisers.
Because of the blatant use in film it has become so mainstream that it has become common in polite company as well as just everyday conversation. Choose with your morals and vote with your pocketbook.
I think the greater issue is the porn that has permeated everyday movies and shows. Absolutely none of it is necessary to tell the story. It is all for sexual gratification and serves no purpose.

I don't see an issue with swearing on television. Television shows have ratings, so it's easy enough to avoid things that you do not want to see or hear. Most people are moving away from cable and towards streaming services, anyway.

Welcome aboard @Progrumz

I generally don't pay no mind to bad language because I hear it all throughout the day as it is, working in construction, dealing with others. Only the excessive use of bad language will catch my attention and irritate me. But yes, I can always change the channel.

I have seen it work on screen and read it in books where the context fit the moment or the person but when it is tossed around like salting the table and floor while salting french fries it just stinks up a place.

There was a western on HBO years ago and it seemed that the producers used swearing more than anything to convey how rough and cruel things really were in those days compared to countless westerns produced previously. To me it was definitely over the top. However, even though he never really swore John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn could have sworn and it would have practically been gratifying because John Wayne in that role said everything with gusto. Ironically the manner in which Jeff Bridges portrayed Rooster Cogburn was the polar opposite. Everything his version said was fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

Podcasting has loose boundaries. Depending on the show it is common for people to toss F-bombs. And they do it during an otherwise regular conversation, swearing just because they can in a podcast while the older enough to know people listening are used to not hearing it in a broadcast.

Good hygiene comes in many forms. Courtesy, consideration, compassion, empathy, generosity, and general care for all life and the world we share has a good hygiene.

Love that summary, as well as your 'salt the floor' analogy. I have to remember both of these 🙂
