New Carnivore

Good evening. After playing around with Low Carb and Keto diets for the last few decades I'm jumping into Carnivore starting tomorrow morning. I have done this in the past for several days to a week and felt great and like a fool, I let that slip. 

I'm a 53-year-old man that is 20-25 pounds overweight. I train with kettlebells and do a fair amount of walking daily. I have horrible knees and need them replaced. I'm hoping that I can reduce the inflammation to the point my knees suck less.

I'm here to learn from great people that have already started the same journey. Thanks for the great forum.

You can do it. I'm 48 years old and down 58lbs. I'm a tile setter in real life so my knees used to kill me, but I feel much better. I would think the combination of losing some weight and reducing inflammation through diet will benefit you too.

I just turned 55. I started May 8th. I have an autoimmune disease called NMO/SD, similar to Multiple Sclerosis. Withing three to four weeks on the diet I found I no longer needed the pain and inflammation medicine I had been on since 2018. 

I started off at 306 and this morning I was 244. 62lbs in less than four months. 

I only have positives thus far. I had some loose stool issues in the beginning but not really any different than any 'hard switch' in a diet. I didn't have the 'carnivore flu' like some do. All positives. 

Good luck. This is a pretty good place to learn and ask questions, at least I like hearing from real people vs. reading medical studies. (it seems they all have an agenda).

Hi I'm 51, I did great on carnivore from February till June of this year, but fell off the rails for the last 2 months. I only have pain when I eat non carnivore. The pain truly is a great reminder to ditch the poison. 

I can remember when Mom ditched the butter and whole milk and opted for low-fat sour cream and sheds spread. I am so grateful I was mostly grown before that happened. We all hated that blue "milk". Hopefully we can help turn this disaster of a ship around by proving once and for all, that the food pyramid is not only nonsensical but, harmful.

Welcome aboard Shawn. You are definitely on the right track.
I’ve got a long list inflammatory issues that have been alleviated because of carnivore. So much so that I will never eat the SAD again.
490 days ago I was a 66 year old man who felt like he was 86 but today I’m a 68 year old man who feels like he’s 48. The transformation has been nothing short of miraculous.
I hope you experience the joy I’ve experienced eating this way.
I believe that you can if you really want to.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, I appreciate it. Not all the way Carnivore yet, about 90%. My wife insists on making low carb veggies for dinner like green beans, broccoli and stuff like that. Not optimum, but not the worst either. From the time I get up until dinner I'm all Carnivore.

We are the 'house divided' as well. 

My wife is not onboard with the idea of going carnivore. She is seeing the effects/results I am having but simply won't give up vegetables. 

What works for us is cooking slightly more meats than we would normally cook for dinner. She has her sides, I do the carnivore thing and then there is meat left for me to take to work the following day. 

For the most part I eat once per day. Juggling the two of us on two or three meals a day would add to the degree of difficulty. 

Thus far it has worked out well.

Back in the early 90’s I went Adkins and was very successful on it but in the beginning my wife, who was caught up in the modern nutrition, was adamantly against me doing it. I was adamant that I was going to do it with or without her. After about six months she saw the improvements in me and decided this wasn’t so bad after all. Well that lasted about 10 years or so but I finally stopped and went back to my old ways and got fat again.
When I stated carnivore on May 9th 2023 she had no qualms about it. She knew I had done my research and trusted my judgment and supported me all the way. She doesn’t eat 100% like I do but she’s more keto now.
So you need to do what’s best for you. This is your life and your body. Educate her on the science and testimonies of carnivore to help ease her worries. Maybe it will help.
Either way though I wouldn’t allow my wife to stop me from improving my health.

And that's the right attitude. A Proper Human Diet, as Ken Berry coined it, can include some low carb veggies. If you eat them every day or every other day, we call that "ketovore". If you're having some once a week or less, we'll still give you a name badge that says you're a carnivore, lol 😆
