Here are three things my wife and I have done to make our carnivore diet a little more affordable. 1) We shared a cow from a local farm. We bought 1/6 of a cow for about $700 which worked out to $11 lb 2) We discoverd a huge pack of rump cap in our grocery store meat section. Rump cap is also called Picanha in Brazilian steakhouses and is tender with a big layer of fat across the top. Once cut into steaks, they resemble NY strip but are way better IMO 3) We also discovered whole ribeye and cut 8 or 9 thick steaks out of a $111.00 pack...way cheaper than the normal $25 lb or so. Bonus: a lot people are unaware of chuck eye steaks, which have been called "the poor man's ribeye". Almost as good has ribeye, half the cost!
  2. Glyphosates

The most-used herbicide on Earth just flunked a major safety test Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, has been sprayed on food crops for decades. It’s used not only to kill weeds—but also to dry out wheat, oats, lentils, and chickpeas right before harvest, a practice called desiccation, which is illegal outside of the US. This makes our breads and grains uniquely toxic, turning glyphosate into a debate almost as hot as seed oils. New safety data this month has shocked the world, causing the EU to reevaluate it's already strict guidelines. Let's explore. Even EU levels are unsafe In June 2025, scientists from the Ramazzini Institute published the Global Glyphosate Study in Environmental Health. It was a two-year rat trial designed to mimic real-world exposure—specifically at the EU’s “safe” level of 0.5 mg/kg body weight per day. What they found: • Significant increases in leukemia and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma • Tumors in the thyroid and liver • Effects appeared even at the lowest dose tested—which mirrors the EU legal limit How does the U.S. compare to the EU on glyphosate? 1. "Safe" Daily Limit: • EU: 0.5 mg/kg body weight (EFSA) • U.S.: 1.75 mg/kg body weight (EPA) 2. Food Testing: • EU: Only ~1.7% of foods tested show glyphosate (EFSA Pesticide Residue Report) • U.S.: No federal testing; independent labs show widespread contamination 3. Cereal Contamination: • EU: Mostly non-detectable or under 100 ppb • U.S.: Up to 2,837 ppb in Quaker Oatmeal Squares (EWG, 2018); up to 500 ppb in 2023 retest (EWG, 2023) 4. Bread Products: • EU: Glyphosate rarely detected • U.S.: Up to 1,150 ppb in whole wheat bread (Detox Project, 2020) ppb = parts per billion. These levels are technically legal—but they raise serious questions in light of the Ramazzini findings. Why oats and wheat get hit the hardest It’s not just about what’s grown. It’s how it’s harvested. In cooler or wetter regions, farmers spray glyphosate 3–5 days before harvest to dry the crop evenly. This isn’t for weeds—it’s for convenience. And it leaves the chemical sitting right on the grain. High-risk foods: • Conventional oats • Wheat bread and crackers • Lentils, chickpeas, and hummus • Granola bars and "healthy" cereals This practice, called pre-harvest desiccation, is banned or restricted in several countries. In the U.S., it’s business as usual. Can you lower your glyphosate levels? Yes. Fast. The Organic for All Study tracked four families across four U.S. cities who switched to an all-organic diet. After just six days, their urinary glyphosate levels dropped by 70 percent. This wasn’t a detox protocol. It was just a grocery list. What you can do right now The best thing you can do is just eat meat. As a carnivore glyphosates are not an issue but for those who prefer more of a keto styled diet it’s best if you follow these guidelines. • Buy organic—especially for oats, wheat, lentils, and chickpeas. • Look for “glyphosate-free” certified products. • Swap in safer carbs. Rice, corn, potatoes, and sweet potatoes are never desiccated. • Support regenerative farms that avoid chemical harvest sprays. Look for “no spray” claims on-pack. • Question “healthy” snacks. If it’s made with conventional oats or wheat, assume glyphosate unless proven otherwise.

O Lord, lead me in Thy righteousness because of my foes; make Thy way straight before me. There is nothing reliable in what they say; their inward part is destruction itself; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue. Hold them guilty, O God . . . for they are rebellious against Thee. But let all who take refuge in Thee be glad, let them ever sing for joy; and mayest Thou shelter them, that those who love Thy name may exult in Thee. For it is Thou who dost bless the righteous man, O LORD, Thou dost surround him with favor as with a shield. —PSALM 5:8-12 I hope and pray that this doesn’t sound blasphemous but when reading this during my devotional I just couldn’t help but apply this to our daily journey as carnivores. It resonates with me in how we deal with those who rail against us in our WOE be it doctors, scientists, family or the general public. I’m afraid this sounds like I’m trying to make this WOE a religion, I’m not, but I constantly find how scriptures constantly apply to us in everything we do. After all the word bible is a wonderful acronym. Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth

Hello everyone, very glad to be here and find this community. I have been looking into Carnivore for quite a while, pretty much understood what it is a lifestyle. I started last week, so almost a week, and adjusting my eating habits throw-out as I go. I gave up soda and all that 15 years ago, have been drinking lots of water since then. One thing I was doing was having Dunkin donuts coffee bottled mocha. I haven't had one in almost a week, and the cravings for chocolate and coffee are going away. I absolutely love steak, meat all that and with the butter, but I do like salads (not given in to eating the vegetables or lettuce). Just simple, meat, eggs, butter, and water and of course salt. I have been watching Dr Barry, Dr Shawn Baker, Dr letterman, Old Guy Carnivore and much more. For me a lot of this make sense, I love history especially the past, and I know looking back humans did not eat the way we eat today, especially with all the additives and progression of the food industry. I am excited about my new journey, and I already am starting to see some changes, sleep, headaches and most important is my low blood sugar, I usually have to eat every so often, they always tell me always take candy with you in case your busy and it goes down. But I never would I always just run for protein, like a burger, chicken, chicken tenders, or something like that, and of course I felt better, so for me this made sense. I also have an issue with IBS and I have noticed that recently my tummy is much better. Thank you, nice to meet you all. Do you all have a group's that meet up? Melissa

Hello, I'm Kate and I'm returning to the carnivore diet for the 4th time. This time I'm hoping for a support community that can help keep me motivated and on track. I have been diagnosed with Axial Spondyloarthritis, an autoimmune/autoinflammatory disease, that has many effects on my body that I want to stop from progressing. When I go full carnivore my symptoms resolve and I have no signs of disease activity. It's a wonder I keep going on and off carnivore right? Well sugar addiction is real and lack of support doesn't help. Hopefully I can change that this time and stick to carnivore and stay healthy for life. Nice to meet everyone in advance and hope to connect with as many of you as I can.
  9. Smoker rebuild.

Bob and 5 others reacted to Geezy for a post in a topic

I finished rebuilding my smoker a few days ago. It was getting harder and harder to regulate the fire and heat in the smoker because the firebox was burned out so it was time to either build a new firebox or buy a new smoker. Since I like to build and create things (and it’s much cheaper) I decided to make a new firebox and while I was at it, remodel the smoker into something I’ve always wanted. So I not only built a new firebox but I turned it into a reverse flow instead of a direct flow smoker. Since I had to relocate the smoke stack I went ahead and lowered it down to grate level to force the heat and smoke down to the meat. I built new racks and added a top rack. The plate that makes this a reverse flow. This design allows me to use 100% of my grates instead of just 2/3’s of it. After I got the initial “burn in” to season the whole pit I did my first smoke on it yesterday. Lamb chops and a lamb roast. They came out great. I’m very pleased with how this came out. This thing really puts out the smoke better than it ever did. Can’t wait to do a brisket and some ribs on it. This thing is a beast now. The new firebox will never burn out in my lifetime. This thing will end up being passed on to one of my kids.

Today is 7 months since I started Carnivore. This morning, I tipped the scales at 223lbs which is 83lbs less than 7 months ago. I have not taken pain medicine nor inflammation medicine since late May/early June. I have Neuromyelitis Spectrum Disorder (basically Multiple Sclerosis but attacks the optic nerves). Other than a couple bouts with some bath room issues, I have only positives. The last month I have bounced around 76-79lbs lost. During that same time I dropped pant size for 40 to 38. Lost inches with pounds basically remaining the same. My weight loss has been erratic yet consistent, if that makes sense. The first thirty pounds came off pretty much a pound a day but from there it has been drops, mini-stalls/stabilize, then drops. I was on 79 a couple different time last week and week before but never actually touching 80. 4lb drop from yesterday til today. No change in diet, actually eating more as of late. At 55 I'm increasing the work in the gym and hoping to build some muscle/off set age related muscle loss as well as knowing it is the best defense against the muscle issues with NMO/SD. 7 months and I have pretty much nothing but positives. So much so, my wife is starting tomorrow. I am hoping this is the biggest positive yet. Scott

Hi! I'm Amber. I have been on various low carb diets before with quite a bit of success, but in all of those successes, it was when I severely limited even veggies that I found myself feeling the best. So, after gaining all and more back, I decided maybe adding all of those "safe carbs" back was a bad idea, and it was a gateway to definitely NOT safe carbs that I started craving! My first week I had some decent headaches, but only one migraine day and I consider that an absolute success. It has become obvious to me in the last couple years that sugar greatly exacerbates my migraines. I am doing classic carnivore, so meats, dairy, and some spices, coffee, and tea. I am going to try to slowly wean myself off of those extras. I have cut many of the spices already. I weightlift 3 times a week, full body. I have been doing that for years off and on, so I am not adding any extra exercise. I also hike with a backpack with my husband on some weekends. I joined a forum because it seems that I do the best when I can actually read other peoples' trials and successes and interact with people doing the same thing, and I don't think the forums on My Fitness Pal go any further than keto. Thanks for reading!

We try to make it to Sam's just before close, or in the morning to catch the "short date" mark downs. We pick what we like and freeze whatever we aren't going to use soon. We just bought two cows that have been bred. It will be a long time before we see meat from that but still looking for some steers to feed out (this market is crazy expensive right now). Not sure how much money we will save this year, but hopefully the investment eventually ends up providing great meat at equal or less cost. Totally agree on chuck steaks- I think when they are thin sliced, they might be even more tender.

Celebrating 4 years today as a carnivore with these ribeye beauties. I put them on the smoker frozen and then let the smoke do it's magic for 3 or 4 hours. Then flash grill them at 475' to 500' for just a few minutes per side. Done this trick several times now and always get a nice rare center. I just used (lots of) salt for seasoning. It's going to be a happy OMAD for today 🥩

Hello! I am excited to get to interact with this group. My husband and I have been carnivore since Jan 1st this year. Prior to that, he was consuming a typical diet, and I had been consuming a very clean ketogenic diet for about 3.5 years. Between the ketogenic and carnivore diets, I have seen great improvement in my kidney function and narcolepsy symptoms. Polycystic Kidney Disease is what brought me to keto, and a sugar addiction brought me to carnivore from there. In truth, I really wasn't eating many carbs anyway. Really using "my allowance" strategically to include plenty of wine, cheese, and homemade keto treats. I was happy and surprised to find that Carnivore gives me more steady energy and less food noise. Currently, I homeschool our kids and work very part time in Clinical Microbiology. However, I am currently taking a Certified Health Coach Course because I love helping others find health improvements using nutrition! I am excited to see where God leads us with this- I just took a leap and started Kairos Health, LLC. Kairos is a Greek word meaning the right or opportune time for decision making. I truly hope I can be helpful in someone's health journey. Here is the link to my interview with Dave Mac in case anyone is interested
  20. Carnivores are lying!!

MimiDez and 4 others reacted to Scott F. for a post in a topic

    5 points
Enjoyed the conversation last night. I forgot the cord for the laptop, and it dropped from 30% to zero unexpectedly. Apologies for the abrupt exit. I thought about 'carnivores lying' for a stretch last night afterwards. Did they mean carnivores are lying in general about the positives of carnivore? Did they mean the individual carnivores are lying about their personal health? Good conversation on the topic. Like said from the beginning, going into carnivore I had no idea of the health benefits other than from the weight loss. On the day I started carnivore was nothing more than another weight loss hack, the latest in the yo-yo dieting approach. I was going to drop 15-20 pounds (if it actually worked) and then go back to eating like normal people. I had already lost 10-12 pounds before I watched my first video or read my first article about carnivore. The weight came off so fast (averaged about a pound per day the first thirty days) when I was asked if I thought it was healthy to just eat meat and drink water I pretty much said, " I don't know, but the weight is falling off so I'm going to roll with it for now". I started reading and watching videos and one of the first videos that popped up was by Cabana Chronicles and her using carnivore for her MS. My autoimmune disease is really similar and that triggered me to watch a ton of videos that evening. Over the next few days I was in constant research mode. I never used the term lying but I was skeptical, even a nay-sayer, about the results people were sharing. As soon as I would start seeing the light (LOL) they would ask me to subscribe, or hit the LIKE button, or buy this product, and that became the catch/the automatic disconnect. I was on gabapentin/Neurontin and prednisone for pain and inflammation and there is no way those can be replaced with a rib eye. As Mrs. Cabana Chronicles talked about not taking medicine I was waiting for the hook, "what is for sale today?". Then it sort of dawned on me that I had come off my long stretch of nights (six 12-13 hours shifts) and I didn't take the medicine for pain and inflammation. I immediately tagged it as a coincidence. The following week I pulled my four shifts and then two more slots of overtime and no medicine during or after the six shifts. Then there was third week and (I'm sort of slow) it started to resonate that there may actually be a connection to carnivore and inflammation. I think my first true lesson in carnivore was that it is not the rib eye nearly as much as it is the elimination of the carbs and sugars. Withing 5-6 weeks of eating strict carnivore (other than the drink mixers to help with drinking water) I was off medicine I had been on for six years. From there I was 'curious' maybe even 'intrigued' by the effects of the elimination diet. I scheduled blood work, both my regular blood work for NMO/SD and my HAZMAT physicals for work. I staggered them to get bloodwork every 3 months or so to check my immunoglobulin numbers. Within three months on carnivore the lower numbers were inching up and the higher numbers were inching down. After 12 months as a strict carnivore my immunoglobulin numbers have returned to what is considered normal. I have one number that is just a few points high but nothing like the previous six years. When the post was made about lying I wonder if it is suggesting I am one of the people lying about my individual successes. I am no longer taking medicine for pain nor inflammation. I have lost between 90-95 pounds. My energy levels are not super human but they have returned to levels that I had as a much younger man but coupled with regular fasting (longer fasting 72 to 96 hours) the energy levels are super crazy high. Do people think I only lost 75 pounds and exaggerated my claims so it sounds better? Do I secretly take medicine and just claim I do not? I get it. I was that guy too. I was skeptical/didn't believe from the very beginning. Carnivore was just another weight loss hack, nothing more/nothing less. It was the same as any other hack that used large weight loss as click bait to get me to buy something. I would never use the term 'lying' but I can see where I came from that same sentiment for a stretch. If you look at each of our stories, how far we have come, I won't say we have all experienced miracles, but I will say for me, I've headed down that path. Sometimes, stories like these are hard to believe. babbling, waiting for the gym to open. Great conversation last night. Enjoyed it. Scott

Pseudo ribeye for today. OM Goodness yummy! I took a frozen $4.99lb chuck roast and rubbed it with just coarse salt. Then placed it on the smoker for 3 hours at about 160'F. once it got to 120'F internal I seared it on the gas grill @450'F for just a few minutes per side. Exactly like ribeye for 1/3 the cost! I've done this trick before and this is the best attempt yet. I didn't even grab a plate, I just ate off of the cutting board 🤣 I'm also stopping the black pepper on my food after listening to Richard Smith on one of his videos.

Hello everybody, Went lite carnivore a week before, just halving rice/chips and adding more meat to my meals. Started dreaming every single night. First day on actual carnivore(1-31-2025), I immediately fell off the bandwagon. Had milk and magic mind with breakfast which was a hotdog and scrambled eggs. Lunch had leftovers from breakfast but got sugar cravings so ate ketchup with it. Then binged on some dried cranberries (cranberries, sugar, sunflower oil). Decided that dinner would be unadulterated carnivore. Made pork chops and hard boiled eggs sliced in half and drizzled gravy(from a youtube comment under a carnivore video) over both. Made said gravy by melting a stick of butter on low heat, whisking 2 TB of cream cheese(it separated) and then vigorously whisking in some cold whole milk(closest thing to heavy cream I had on hand. Also this fixed the separation issue.) and a little parmesan cheese. Gravy was rich and delicious and helped spice up the hard boiled eggs. It was so good I didn't have any cravings afterward. Had leftovers for breakfast the next day. For lunch I made some burger patties with salt and pepper with hard boiled eggs on the side and monterey jack cheese melted over both. I usually get exhausted after lunch but I feel good. Dinner is going to be steak and mozzarella sticks(with pork rinds).

  40. Seldom am I actually hungry since going Carnivore. Most days I could easily go 24-30 hours without issue. I think what you are experiencing is fairly normal. I started in May at 306 and this week I weighed in at 229. I still have some weight to go but at the same time I'm lifting in an attempt to build muscle. I eat a beef and egg meal in the mornings after lifting and I try to eat in the evening with my wife. On the lifting days, after the morning meal it is all, I can do to eat again that evening. Getting off the original topic but there is another post on here about protein shakes/keto chow type supplementation. I read that a few months ago and I can see how that would work for me. Whole foods are better by far, but it is going to be a struggle to eat enough protein to build muscle. (totally off topic, my apologies) One of the amazingly ironic things is just a few months ago I could eat my 16oz rib eye with a loaded baked potato, finish off my wife's steak, three to four glasses of sweet tea, and then eat dessert but now I am hard pressed to eat a whole rib-eye at dinner, especially if I had a couple eggs that morning. I never imagined the struggles of eating more. Scott

We went to West Virginia this weekend riding side by sides up and down the mountains. Had a blast. Several of the people on the trip I had not seen since pre-carnivore. As we discussed the Carnivore approach it was almost 'fun' listening to the "question and answer session". There were a husband/wife couple who were both in the medical field, one a nurse and the other in the lab. As I described the things I cut out and the now it is only meat, salt and water adding that I try to eat red, fatty cuts of meat the majority of time, I actually got a lecture on the things I was missing in my diet. What about Vitamin C? What about fiber? Where are you getting your greens from and what are you doing for anti-oxidants? I explained each the best I could. For me the irony was standing there with about an 8 ounce rib-eye out of a napkin with a bottle of water I brought from home while they covered the shortcomings of a carnivore diet whilst eating bags of Doritos/Hot Fries, cold Pizza and drinking beer (copious amounts of beer). Another part of the irony was that was me just a few months ago and I don't feel like I have done near the research I probably need to do as I slowly transition from this being a Carnivore Diet to being a "Carnivore Lifestyle". Ignorance is bliss but it is also fattening and detrimental to one's health. With that said, a great group of people and we had a blast up and down the mountains. Some flat out racing, some cruising and some sketch hill climbs, but a blast all the same. It is a great part of the country to vacation/do a weekend ride. Plus, this weekend was six months on the diet. No medicines since late May and down 75lbs. I feel as good as I have in a really, really long time. I was the 55 year (old guy in the group) old guy walking down the side of the mountain to find out if the path was blocked then walking back up. These 25–28-year-old (kids) stopping half-way back up to catch their breath/grab a second wind. Maybe there is some irony there as well. LOL Scott

This is my favorite saying, I think. Except, in the Navy my Dive School Instructor use to say, "There is no such thing as a stupid question only stupid people that ask questions". Brings back memories. Scott

VShred is a typical mainstream diet. Doesn't seem to be any different from the standard western diet aside from calorie restriction. Kind of surprised it got targeted for a hit piece. The writer of the article is a dietician. Dieticians aren't allowed to recommend anything other than the national food guidelines or they risk losing their license. Men's Health is garbage. It has been for decades. It's a vessel to sell "health" products and other crap to men, not actually get men healthy by giving good advice. So we have a garbage article about a garbage diet by a garbage writer in a garbage magazine.

A chunk of ours is homemade but the biggest part is store bought. I'm not all that strict on the bacon. I don't eat a ton of it regularly but every so often I eat a pound pack over a couple three days. Earlier in the week I ground a pound into some burger. I will get that over three to four meals. I'm sure some of the bacon I buy has sugar but I'm not sure I could ever reach total perfection with carnivore buy reading every label and researching every brand. Interesting topic. Scott

Welcome. I too had a garden. If one is to give carnivore a chance, at least give it 90 days. It may take that long to get fat adapted and see most of the benefits. I loved my food too, and thought how ridiculous that sounded. We are programmed to love food thinking somehow we are a "foodie" a life enjoyer sipping wine at the French riviera.... we're addicted to sugar, period. With such a paradigm shift, yes, then one can still decide to go Paleo, or Keto, or any variation you like. But first give it the time it deserves, and allow your view on what food really is (hint, it's fuel, that's it), and make a decision from there. Most likely, much of the pain -the thing we are willing to put us through for the "love" of food- may have subsided and give you an entirely new perspective on diet, etc.

Not completely hooked on numbers but it's very encouraging to see them go down especially when I started so heavy. My clothes are falling off of me, even the stuff that was too tight to wear when I started. My sleep apnea has improved to better than it was when I was diagnosed with it ten years ago. I feel so much better too. When hiking through the woods while hunting or walking my job sites at work, I get around so much easier. I'm happy to get out there and have something to do now.
