  2. Lol! You gotta tie the knot by the end of the month 😛 I'm still trying to work something out prize-wise, but I haven't gotten any email responses today. Probably because it's New Year's Day, so hopefully tomorrow. Each post/reply in THIS TOPIC (the one you are currently viewing entitled "World Carnivore Month - January Challenge" will be an entry into the drawing. Back to back posts in this topic will be merged into one to avoid spamming/manipulation of the system.
  3. Today is the first day of January and is also the first day of World Carnivore Month. To that end, let's challenge ourselves to eat a carnivore diet for the entire month of January. The type of carnivore diet and the level of strictness you choose to do is entirely up to you. Examples of carnivore diets include the following... 1) The Lion Diet. A person eating the Lion Diet only consumes the flesh of ruminant animals, water, and salt. 2) The BBBE Diet. BBBE is an acronym for Beef, Butter, Bacon, and Eggs. 3) The Carnivore Diet. This allows for the consumption of any and all animals and animal by-products, including dairy. In any of the above examples, the object of course is to not consume any plants as part of your diet. Of course, we're not going to micromanage hoe you prepare your food, so your use of seasonings is entirely your own personal choice. IF your circumstances don't allow you to go full on carnivore in January, then you can participate in this topic by challenge yourself to do better, above and beyond what you have been doing. For example, if you have still been eating grains, seed oils, refined sugar, or drinking alcohol, challenge yourself to avoid these items and just eat a clean, single ingredient whole foods diet such as clean keto, ketovore, or animal based. We encourage you to check in daily, and share what you have eaten, perhaps a weigh-in if you're willing, and enjoy in some small talk. Participants in this topic will be entered into a drawing for a prize at the end of the month.
  4. I haven't supplemented with iodine yet, but I've been meaning to. Word is that if you live by the ocean and eat a lot of seafood, you probably get all that you need. But most people are deficient, to the extent that mainstream salt here is "iodized". J. Crow's Lugol's Iodine Solution is a popular supplement among carnivores. Dr. Berry often recommends it.
  5. My wife made a dish in the crock pot that had chicken broth, melted cream cheese, shredded chicken, and more. It was a bit thick, almost like a dip or spread. We put it in a bowl with some shredded cheese and I ate it with pork rinds. It was pretty delicious and still carnivore, save for whatever seasonings she used.

  7. Fun fact: European mistletoe is highly toxic/poisonous. American mistletoe on the other hand has been known to cause digestive upset but has not caused any reported deaths. Plant toxins is an interesting subject having dipped my fork into the world of carnivore-centric nutrition. While most of us would never dream of eating any mistletoe at all, children and pets have a tendency to put it there mouths, so be careful. Keep it high up, out of reach - high enough to stand under it and get yourself a nice kissy, lol
  8. Let's get the thread back on track, lol. Hey Tom @Logan9fingers - How is the carnivore diet going for you? I don't think I've ever come across "fillers" in my groudn beef/minced meat here. Even our fast good burgers are usually 100% beef. We do find fillers in processed meats, like beef sticks and jerky, so you have to read labels to get the cleanest possible.
  9. I think he meant undereating. And eating until you are comfortably stuffed will certainly help you mount a strong defense against cravings. I personally couldn't survive on a ribeye a day (12oz-16oz precooked weight). If I were to do OMAD, I would have to feast, lol.
  10. So I have ate off plan on Saturday... because it was the wife and I's 24th wedding anniversary. We went to a fancy-shmancy restaurant called the Rosewood Grill and spent way too much money on dinner, which is the appropriate thing to do on an anniversary so no big deal, lol. She had the filet mignon with mashed potatoes, and I had the shrimp and scallops over a bed of risotto (creamy rice) and I got butternut squash on the side. Since we made our reservation through Open Table, they knew it was our anniversary and "suprised" us with a dessert, which was a slice of brownie with a scoop of ice cream on top drizzled in fudge and caramel, with a lit candle in it, lol. I did eat the ice cream, but I took one bite of the brownie and immediately determined I wasn't going to go there. It was so freakin' rich that even the one bite made me feel nauseous. I was never a chocolate guy, even before. Our anniversary is usually the only time of year I go to dinner knowing I am not eating a proper human diet, lol.

  12. Interesting. I don't have a good weight-lifting program at the moment, so I am going on what I have heard others say. There's an initial drop in strength (can't lift as much or do as many reps before fatiguing) but after a few weeks the strength and energy return. Such anecdotes align well with what we know about that initial adaptation period when you switch from carb-laden SAD diet to a ketogenic or carnivore-centric diet. I'm listening to a book right now ("The Unholy Trinity") that even talks about benefits of working out in a fasted state, towards the end of your intermittent fasting period, and THEN eating, for optimal results. Probably because you'll be in ketosis and running on your steady stream of ketones derives from your own body fat. The only thing I can think of, is to load up on fat before a workout. Not too stuffed to lose the motivation to exercise (food coma, lol!), perhaps an hour or so prior to give your body time to break down that energy. But then I've heard others report similarly to you and chose to go more "animal-based", at least on workout days.
  13. I went to the local butcher the other night and got me some grass fed NY Strips. I was hoping to get some liver but they were actually sold out. But I did get something unique - Deer bratwursts that have a touch of jalapeno and cherries in them. So they have a couple carbs per link as a result but the combination sounded very intriguing. I will be trying them tomorrow.

  15. Holiday specials are times for stocking up. The best deals usually happen around Memorial Day and Independence Day here in the US. Ribeye will sometimes drop to half price.
  16. Welcome aboard Matt. This would make sense. Since trigs are basically energy floating around in your blood, an exercise regimen should help use them up/drive them down. I plan to experiment with this soon after I get my exercise room all set up.

  20. Tonight is NY Strips. I'm redundant, lol. However, Taco Bell brought back the Mexi-Melt, which I used to absoutely adore. So I made a carnivore-friendly carnivore-ish version at home the other night using Egg Life Wraps and a little pico de gallo.

  22. Old habits die hard. We are creatures who like routine. We can establish a new routine, but it takes effort. That is why "going on a diet", "starting a diet", and "sticking to the diet" in the beginning is difficult. But, in time it becomes your new routine, and it becomes second nature. Keto-carnivore was a challenge at the beginning. Now it's just who I am.
  23. Awesome to see that list of achievements from being carnivore. I can relate to just about every one of them, including the thin in the face. I've always been fat with a rounded, fuller face, but when I lost the weight I thought I started to look... "old", lol. Grew my beard to cover that up, lol.
  24. That is impressive. It's strange thinking that it was up and running for around 900 years. Over here in the U.S. you have a company here and there that may have been around since the 1800's, but even that's rare.
