Greetings!

I am new to this forum. I have been following a clean KETO program for about 3 years. I am most proud of the fact that I have not had any sugar in any form for 3 years. No fruit or any other form of "natural" or refined sugar.

In the past couple of weeks, I have begun to follow more of a "Ketovore" WOE with minimal carbohydrates; usually less than 15 grams which primarily come from supplements I take and none of which have a strong glycemic impact.

The most difficult parts so far of making this transition has been 1) allowing a higher percent of the macronutrient protein (usually 30% instead of 20%) and 2) not having nuts such as pecans, Brazil and macadamia nuts.

I would appreciate any perspectives or experience based suggestions from others who have emphasized more carnivore choices in their ketogenic way of eating.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm strict carnivore and have not had carbs nor sugars from food in 13 months. No real help to you there.

There are few that post here that are animal based with some fruits and vegetables here and there. Hopefully they will be able to offer their insight.

The only advice I can give on the meat is that as you change protein content make sure the fat content tracts up with it. A big part of this way of eating working for people is for it to be high fat/moderate proteins. The few stretches I have actually counted I found that in an attempt to hit protein amounts I neglected the fat I needed. I gained weight.

Good luck, and again, welcome.

Welcome aboard @JDM :)

Could you clarify that statement for me. I am not sure which way I should read it. Do you mean...

1) "I'm aiming for 30% protein and finding it difficult to consume more protein"?
2) "I'm finding that I am eating around 30% protein, but I would like to get that back down to 20% protein"?

If you are trying to increase protein, then you can strategically add in leaner meats, such as chicken and seafood, and/or reduce the fat you cook or garnish with.

If you are trying to decrease protein, and in turn increase fat, then you can rely more on fatty cuts of meat and make generous use of animal fats (or alternatively olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil which are not seed oils).

Basically, you will want to gradually be filling your plate with more fatty meat and less low carb veggies until you are 100% carnivore. But remember that ketovore and keto are also on the proper human diet spectrum. Unless you are intentionally wanting to do carnivore as an elimination diet to try and determine if a certain plant or family of plants is causing you health issues, there is no harm in "cheating" with keto here and there when you feel like it.

Welcome Aboard @JDM .

Sounds like you have your path carved out and stayed the course 👍

Like @Scott F. , I am 100% carnivore except the cup of coffee or 2 I have daily.

Sugars and seed oils I won't allow to pass my lips willingly.

Welcome to the group @JDM

I’m not sure what you’re asking but I’m 99% carnivore. The only indulgence I allow is some jalapeno about once a month or so. As a Texan it’s hard to give up the peppers completely. They don’t affect me so I’m ok with them.
