Hi all

Im new here, been on carnivore for the last 19 months. Very successful at putting my crohns into remission. No flares since starting, feel best I have in years. Had my first labs since starting and wondering if my numbers are somewhat normal for a carnivore diet. I eat mostly red meats, eggs, and butter (no other dairy) along with some chicken and fish occasionally. Only water. I take a few supps like a good daily vitamin, steer organ supp, cal/mag supp, & krill oil. Lots of pink Himalayan salt.

My dr knows im carnivore and even though he knows im feeling the best in like 10 years, thinks my lipids are to high. Any feedback would be appreciated.

That is pretty much your call. Most doctors will push the statins or other cholesterol type medicines. Mine will re-explain his point when I see him.

My numbers are similar. My first blood test after six months on carnivore (strict-no carbs-no sugars) my LDL dropped from 187 to 152 and then three months later a slight bump up to 164. My panel did not include non-HDL nor Lipoprotein.

I eat a lot of fat. I am pretty sure my fat to protein ratio is a bit high compared to most and in turn I expect my numbers to elevate some. At the same time the bloodwork is a snap-shot of one particular time and the numbers could vary either way the next day/next week. Based on how much weight I was losing (fat adapted) plus the amount of fats i was eating it would only be natural to have more cholesterol in my system at any given time.

Tough call. I'm adamant about statins but I can see where medications may work for others.

Welcome to Carnivore Talk Craig.

Yes, those numbers are fairly normal for a carnivore. In my opinion they are excellent. The true maker for cardiovascular disease is your Triglycerides to HDL ratio and yours are stellar. The number we like to see is under 2 and yours is 1. That’s great.

As far as everything else I’d look at your supplements. You don’t need a daily vitamin. They are worthless and a waste of money. If you think they make you feel better then fine, continue taking them but just know that the way we eat provides all of the nutrients you need to thrive as a human. I eat organ meats but not as a supplement but just because I like them but I don’t eat them everyday. According to many of the experts, organ meats are not necessary to a proper diet. I don’t know why you are taking krill oil but unless you are trying to treat a specific issue in your body it’s probably not needed either.

Thanks for the replies. I take a vitamin because I still suffer from malabsorption due to my crohns/colitis dx. At my lowest point of my disease i was at 114lbs, down from 160 (m/65, 68" tall). I would eat 5k calories a day and lose weight. Im now up to 145lbs but still feel like a have a malabsorption issue. So even though im not sure the supps are helping, I just take them hoping my progress continues. Im so fearful of falling back into flaring im afraid to change anything. All I know is this is what's working for me and I've tried damn near every other diet, med, supp, medical recommendation, surgeries, treatments, etc., and nothing worked till I went carnivore. When you're as sick as I was and have now found remission, I cant take the risk of changing. I know in reality I probably dont need supps, but mentally, im stuck. Thanks for much for the feedback, its nice to be able to share opinions without pushback like on so many other sites. Oh, krill oil seems to have a soothing effect on my scared colon. Fish oil also helps, but gives me upset stomach for some reason.

Glad my labs seem in line with a carnivore diet. Thanks again

Yep. The carnivore is a way of eating and my way may not be your way. The object would be to dial it to what works best for you.

I can honestly say I have nothing but positives for the last fourteen months.

I did make a joke about a negative as I lost 95lbs and for some reason some of that was in my feet. At 300+ I bought a rather expensive pair of work boots and in time they were flopping around like clown shoes. Who loses weight/size in their feet?

Couple the fact that I am cheap and hurt some sort of bad to spend near $200 on a pair of boots. And now they don't fit without inserts or two pair of socks, which is brutal when it is over 100F today.

Good luck.

Ok, I get your why.
I reversed my Crohn’s Disease and IBS so I can relate. You do what you need to do to get this behind you. Be hopeful that in time you will reverse this terrible illness.

Tnx again all.

Geezy, how long have you been on carnivore? How long have you had ibd? How long after starting carnivore till you found remission? I got banned form most all of the ibd forums because I post positive about carnivore and they claim im a fraud and nothing "cures" ibd, even though I never claim im "cured", just that im in remission. They all seem to have such closed minds to anything that is not Big Pharma related (I failed 3 biologics), and have been brainwashed to believe drugs and the medical community have all the answers. Of course none of them have ever even tried the carnivore diet, yet they have no issues recommending every other elimination diet. I was so desperate to find relief and so glad I have found it with this diet. Thanks again and best wishes

You will find that reaction in a lot of people. Sometimes it is hard to go against the grain and some choose to stick to what they have been told. Sometimes an open mind is not a part of the equation.

I have not drunk the 'carnivore kool-aid' by any means and I don't believe it will cure everything for everybody, but I do think it will help the overwhelming majority of people out there. Most just look at what we eat, and the biggest benefit of carnivore comes from what we are no longer eating.

A rib eye can only do so much but coupled with a bunch of carbs, sugars and processed food it is basically just a rib eye. Allow that rib eye to go solo and the health benefits start to stack up. Unfortunately, most can't see that.

Sometimes the best advice is 'you do you and I'll do me'. Let it go at that.

And carnivore has its own extremist as well. I recently added some sugar back with some protein shakes. 12 grams of sugar two times per week.

I have to explain that I don't know where Jimmy Hoffa is buried, I did not help D.B. Cooper parachute from a hijacked plane, I didn't help orchestrate anything with 9/11 or the trade centers, I don't have the cure from the common cold and keeping it for myself. But since I ate sugar I am evial and several of these must be true.

I guess it takes all the spokes in the rim to make the world go 'round. LOL

As of today I’ve been a carnivore for 813 days.

I had IBS for over 30 years and Crohn’s for over two years. I found remission in 30 days of becoming carnivore.

Others resent what they are afraid to try or are too lazy to do. Jealousy is a sin.

Actually, carnivore won’t cure anything. What it does is remove the things we are poisoning ourselves with and allows our body to heal its metabolism. Imagine how good we would feel and be if we had eaten this way all of our lives.

Agreed.

One of the easiest things to explain and yet, the hardest thing to grasp is that carnivore is all about what we are not eating. All the health benefits come from not eating the things that prevent the body from healing itself.

It is a tough sale. Thinking back, I would have been in that group as well. How can mashed potatoes hurt? Are green beans and butter beans all that bad? (In season, a few weeks out of the year, nope. Not at all. Chemically preserved and commercially canned for longevity, not good at all.)

When we say carnivore think 'all I can eat is meat, and salt and water', How is that going to help? I'm already eating meat, salt and water. It is the foods other than meat, salt and water that are causing the problems.

Tough sale. Worth it on the other end, but if carnivore were a product sold door to door, we would be losing weight from starvation. LOL
