Study for blood test?

Thankfully, AI recommended this community to me in my attempt to comprehend of my level of health. After subscribing, I see how the community can benefit me, and hopefully I can contribute to the community.

To introduce myself:

-52 yr old male, relatively lean, Carnivore since 10/25 (moderately strict), most likely LMHR (LDL 204, triglyceride to HDL ratio .96) motivated by metabolic health related to dementia/Alzheimer's (family history), lift like Mentzer (once weekly), cardio 1 to 2 times weekly.....for example; swim a mile, run 6 miles @ 5.5 mph, work 60+ hrs weekly mostly standing at desk or walking projects.

Concern: Elevated liver enzymes....AST 39, ALT 61.

Possible reason for elevated enzymes:

  1. Mentzer lift 7 days prior

  2. 6 miles run 6 days prior

  3. 1 mile swim 5 days prior

  4. Mowed lawn 5 days prior (July Houston Humidity, dehydration)

Dr. wants me to run through multiple tests for fatty liver and scold me for poor health (high cholesterol)

It seems wiser to re-test blood in 2 months after abstaining from any exercise or potentially dehydrating activities for 10 days to more accurately access liver enzymes.

  1. Does this seem reasonable?...."Studying for a blood test".

  2. Recommendations for Dr. in Houston area more familiar with carnivore / keto??

I describe myself as healthy, but I am not a medical doctor.....ChatGPT is helpful, but I prefer a the advice of a knowledgeable professional. No one I regularly associate with is on carnivore........typically, I feel like a crazy dude on an island (lol).

Welcome. It is a good community to share your experiences with as well as learn from others.

I'm not from the Houston area, but in general, the doctors who readily accept carnivore are few and far in between. My neurologist is really pleased with my health improvements since carnivore. he says he is not ready to prescribe it, nor recommend it to his other patients (autoimmune diseases-MS and NMO/SD) but he would be really happy if they would call me and see what it has done for me. Big picture? I take that as a win as far as the acceptance by most medical professionals.

I did the same. My primary care doctor has tried to persuade me to go on statins for a number of years. I just turned 57, my cholesterol is identical to yours at 204 and .96. I lift three to four times per week, walk 3.5 miles 4-6 times per week (work schedule) and do 100-120 pushup along the 3.5 mile walk.

Between my neurologist and work my bloodwork is staggered so I can go stretches getting bloodwork every three months. I altered my nutrition and work to see the impact and at times I guess I was 'studying' for the next test.

Again, welcome.

Scott

Welcome to Carnivore Talk Duke.

You are definitely not on an island brother. There are millions of us around the world and this is just one example of how we connect.

If you are in Houston I feel for you. I’m about 250 miles northwest of Houston. We have the Texas heat but have to deal with the high humidity y’all do.

While none of us are doctors either we do have an expert (in my opinion) in kidney’s and their function and that would be Bob. I’m sure he will be along shortly and can help you out.

I also follow Metntzers lifting techniques of less is more but lifting to absolute failure.

I personally don’t think your doctor is on the right track. From all of the testimonies about fatty liver being eliminated by eating a carnivore lifestyle it would seem impossible and of course we know as carnivores that high cholesterol is usually not anything to worry about. Does your doctor know how you eat? You might need to educate him.

I think your idea of getting another blood test after restricting some activities sounds like a good path forward.

Scott & Geezy,

Thanks for your quick responses, and acceptance into the community. Your experiences and insight lean me towards confidence in the diet and the path I am on.
