Just started and going extreme

Recommended Posts

Hello.  I just started yesterday and I decided to go all out and just do BBB & E for the first 90 days.  I hope I can stick to that as I think I will see good results.  I would eventually like to get to OMAD but I am starting with three meals a day with no snacking.  It's going to be rough as I have a very bad sugar addiction.  I have done keto in the past but never really succeeded due to using sweeteners, usually sucralose.  This time I am cutting it all.  The only thing I am keeping is black coffee & tea.

Just for some background back in 2014 I was 450+ pounds and miserable.  I buckled down and just with calorie restrictions and exercise I got down to 310.  Then I was arrested and was facing prison time, no reason to get much into that.  I fought my case for 3 years until they threatened to add more charges if I didn't drop the fight.  It was a federal case and there just is not much reason to go to trial with them even if you are not guilty so I pled guilty and to my shock got a  7 year sentence when I was expecting a year at the most.

Anyway during the 3 years I was fighting I ate like crazy and was all the way back up to 420 pounds when I arrived at prison in December of 2018.  The first year I lost 100 pounds by counting calories and using the elliptical for about 10-12 hours a week.  Then covid hit and we were restricted to our "dorm" rooms for almost 2 years.  No exercise was possible.  I somehow managed to only gain about 30 pounds over those two years.  When they finally opened things back up and I could use the elliptical again I started slowly losing weight again.  About a year later I was only down to 320 pounds.  I had a year until I was going to be moved to a half way house and I really wanted to lose another 50 pounds.  I started really watching what I ate and consumed a large amount of mackerel as it was the cheapest and best protein source I could get on commissary.  I kept on the elliptical and then in the spring I actually started jogging.  After a month I was jogging 35-40 miles a week.  By the time I left for the half way house I was down to 240lbs.

Then the food choices when I was suddenly back in the world just destroyed me.  I started eating ice cream almost every day along with waaaaaay over eating.  Here I am 8 months later and when I weighed in yesterday I was 304 pounds.  I can't let myself go again so I really hope I can do this!!

Welcome.

I have been on the diet for just shy of 90 days. I started at 306 and dropped 50pounds since May 8th. I have been one of the ones who have seen nothing but the upsides. Feel really lucky for that.

I thought I would struggle with the diet as I ate many, many times per day. Once I got rolling, I found that I was hardly ever hungry. So much so, one meal a day is a breeze, and I have done a couple 48-hour fasts without being hungry at the end. I could have gone longer (and should have just to see).

I am guessing after a couple weeks or so three meals a day will be hard to do. I struggle to eat a protein meal after going to the gym in the morning. Basically, I do one meal a day, but I eat three or four eggs after the gym and that pretty much counts as a 'meal'.

Best of luck as you get started. This is a pretty good place for real world experience.

Scott

Hey there Bossman, welcome aboard.
Wow, that’s quite a journey you’ve had. You’ve been through a lot.
You we able to persevere what you went through and you showed you can put in the work so I believe you can do this with the right mindset.
You need to be focused on winning. Your mindset must be that you cannot fail.
Eat fatty meat, emphasize the fat, use salt as needed and drink water. Eat when you are hungry and eat until are comfortably full.
Keep it simple and you’ll be fine.

Thanks guys for the encouragement!  I had a headache and fatigue yesterday but not too bad along with some am diarrhea.  Today I feel good but again with am diarrhea bad enough I had to leave work early as we had no bathroom on this worksite.

I have been eating 1b of bacon and three eggs for breakfast these first 3 days and I think it's too much fat for me too quick.  I think tomorrow I will just skip breakfast and try doing just two meals within a 6 hour window.  While I was in prison I almost always fasted from supper at around 5ish to lunch around 11ish so it's not new and I should be fine.  Hopefully it won't take long to get down to OMAD.

I have some Chuck steak thawed so I will have a nice dinner tonight!

One thing I forgot to mention is I am still exercising regularly.  I got moved to home confinement in May and I have been riding my bike 50ish miles a week since then.  It has gotten harder though the last month as my weight has ballooned.  Only my legs have stayed toned so I look rather odd with this huge stomach and legs/calves of steel lol.

I'm in that middle ground where I am still losing weight but lifting to add some muscle. If I eat for the extra protein I get the loose stool. On the days I do OMAD my stool is OK (at best).

I work a rotating 12-hour shift. This week I roll onto the three nights and I try to do a 48-hour fast over the three nights. I can remember thinking only a psychopath could go 48-hours without eating (on purpose) and now I find it to be rather easy.

Good luck in your adjustment. I felt a little drained at first but I didn't read any instructions nor did I ask any questions. As a result the toilet paper supply dwindled quickly. LOL

It’s normal to have diarrhea the beginning of carnivore Bossman.
Mine lasted 30 days. It’s mostly due to your gut biome trying to change over to only digesting meat vs carbs and your liver hasn’t been able to excrete enough bile to keep up with the higher fat intake.
Speaking of fat, I would say that a pound of bacon, while delicious and easy to eat, is too much for one meal. That definitely isn’t going to help your bowels this early in the diet. Give yourself time to become fat adapted before taking on that much fat in one setting.

Day 5 and ended up doing a 24 hour fast.  I had things to do this afternoon so I was afraid to eat due to my issues with diarrhea so I just waited till supper to eat.  Then I realized I thawed the wrong Hamburger and had to force down 93/7 stuff.  Even cooked in bacon grease and topped with butter (patties) it was rough.  I much prefer the 85/15 grass fed I get from Sam's.  I known it's still low in fat but it's just too convenient in 1lb packs for $5 a lb.  I add bacon grease and or butter to it as well.

Still no sugar withdrawal issues.  I am very happy about that.  I plan on doing OMAD going forward as much as possible.  I will try a 20-25 mile bike ride tomorrow too and see how that goes!

Sounds like you’re doing great. The problem I find with ground meat is that even if you have a high fat ratio and I like a 70/30, most of the fat cooks out of it so I pour the rendered fat over the burger or add lots of butter to it.
Something you might try with the leaner is cut up some bacon into small pieces and mix it into the burger. It’s pretty tasty.

Yepper.

I had to stumble upon this with the 70% grinds and then with the 60/40 and 50/50 I did myself there is enough, so it does not all cook out.

I still add some bacon/butter to the grease and make a 'gravy of sorts'. Lots of fats but more importantly it tastes amazing.

I'm going to try to add the bacon to the burger and check that out. It has to be good.

My Pops use to say you could put three slices of bacon between two pieces of cardboard and at least one person would ask for seconds.

Bacon has the power.

Day 6 update.  I could not quite make it 24 hours to wait on supper to eat.  I was going on a bike ride and I was afraid to go on the ride after not eating for almost 20 hours so I had 3 pickled eggs and 4 hotdogs.  Managed 18.6 miles on my ride which has been my minimum ride the last few months before I went carnivore.  I have ridden between 18.6-40 miles in the last 3 months.  So I was glad I hit my minimum.

After the ride I had my first regular BM, no diarrhea!  Still no withdrawal symptoms either, I am really happy so far.

I will do my first weigh in on Saturday morning.

When I started I would either barely go at all for days, and imagined I was "constipated", or it would be like turning on the tub faucet with so much force I almost elevated off the seat, lol. It took about 6 weeks for mine to return to my new normal. I get diarrhea from time to time, but it's rare now so when I do it may not even be diet related at all.

Welcome aboard, btw! 😄

I still don't have what I call regular BMs.  I generally tend to go as often as I eat now, although sometimes I get loose stools and have to go 3-5 times in quick succession.

I'm not concerned though.
