I’ve wondered for quite some time now who decided how many calories we should eat for the optimal requirements.

Now I’m not a CICO kinda guy and that’s what got me to questioning this calorie thing.

I heard some time ago that the RDA values that are pushed on us as what we should be getting every day for optimal health and the calorie numbers were just arbitrary numbers picked by surveys given to college students.

I really started wondering when I hit my final weight and wondered if I needed to eat more to keep from losing anymore. So I did some tracking and found that my average calorie count is about 1500 per day, give or take. I feel fine but the everyone was saying that that is starvation mode. Well how can it be starvation when I feel great? I wish I could remember the podcast but I remember hearing that the average person back before the advent of processed foods generally ate a diet of about 1500 calories. As agricultural ramped up and food became more plentiful the calorie count went up and so did the expectations of how much to eat.

I’m a firm believer that it’s not how many calories we consume but what food those measures of heat are made of. 2000 calories from donuts will have a remarkably different effect on your body than 2000 calories from ribeye.

So anyways, I found this article that confirms what I suspected about how the numbers came to be the acceptable norm for caloric intake.

Interesting read.

Not being a computer guy I have no idea why this is being underlined as I type.

I'm at that point that the weight is still falling off so I can only imagine I am in a calorie deficit of sorts. I'm not hungry at all so I feel like I should be in the ball park or maybe a little shy. At some point I think I will get to a weight where I need to 'count or watch' calories. I don't think I am anywhere near there now. I just eat once a day nd sometimes it feels like I am eating just to be eating.

Definitely agree what you are eating plays the bigger role than how much or a certain amount. The donuts to ribeye comparison is spot on. Before I started carnivore every morning was a Mountain Dew, a Little Debbie double stack oatmeal cake, and a bacon, egg and cheese on a hamburger bun. I am sire I hit my daily calorie RDA before 6AM.

At some point I will cross this bridge.

    • "Marching into March with Much Motivation"

For this months challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to get up and move. Spring is in the air. The weather is getting better. Get out there and MOVE! Go for walks, hike some trails if they aren't too muddy. Or just make a goal to get on the treadmill or lift some weights more than usual throughout the month. Get in the habit now, and we just might have beach bodies when summer officially hits, lol.

Just like before, we encourage you to check in daily, and share what you have eaten, perhaps a weigh-in if you're willing, and enjoy in some small talk.

The March drawing will be for a 4-pack of Carnivore Bars!

Every Reply in this topic will count as an entry for this month's prize drawing. Back-to-back posts count as 1 entry as a counter to spamming.

Attending Monday night zoom also counts as a bonus entry. Being a supporter of our YouTube channel also gives you an entry.

    • Today is February 1st and marks the first day of "National Fasting February" - and yes, this is a thing. Google it!

For this month's challenge, we are going to support each other in our efforts to practice various forms of fasting throughout the month. The type of fasting you wish to do is entirely up to you. We are going to encourage INTERMITTENT FASTING, that is to put it simply, skipping a meal so that you are only eating 2 meals a day instead of the traditional 3 meals a day. The goal is to enjoy these meals within an 8 hour "feasting window" and then no food in the remaining 16 hours "fasting window" (in which 8 of those hours you should be sleeping).

An example is waking up at 7am, but waiting until 11am-noon for your first meal, and then having dinner at 6-7pm for your 2nd meal. Other people prefer to eat a breakfast, then a mid-day lunch, and skip dinner.

If you want to throw in a 24, 48, or 72 hour fast just to show off by all mean do so, lol.
