  1. For more information on what causes cardiovascular diseases and what doesn’t. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Steak, eggs and bacon today. The trinity.
  3. You are correct sir. Lol!
  4. That’s fantastic! You’ve got nothing to worry about. You are at less than 1. Keep rockin on man.
  5. Not a problem Scott. This is an open forum and we can only help each other when we are open and honest. Anyways, I never had a moment when I “felt” like I didn’t need my medicine although I did wonder if I didn’t need it anymore. It was actually my cardiologist that made the decisions based solely on my what my body was doing. In the first three or four months he took me off of the Metropol because it was taking my blood pressure too low. When it hit 75/54 he said get off of that NOW. My diet had brought my BP down to normal levels and the medication was bringing it down too low artificially. After that my cardiologist made the decision to cut my second medication (Flecinide) in half at about the 6th or 8th month because I was doing so well with losing weight and getting healthy. My EEG’s were coming out perfect. My heart palpitations and PVC’s were down from 8-12 a day to maybe once a day. After another six months he took me off of the medication completely because after a year I was still improving and it looked like I could maintain my eating lifestyle. My palpitations are reduced to maybe one or two a week and they are so mild I barely notice them. My cardiologist said that I have done more to heal myself than anything he could have done for me. He has also put me on a once a year schedule now. He also knows that I’m carnivore and is just thrilled with my progress and results. None of this was my decision but his because of the results he was seeing. Your cholesterol numbers are just fine, in fact your HDL to Triglycerides ratio is good at a 2 and shows no indication of cardiovascular risk. It would be better if it were less than 1.5 but 2 is still good. Give your diet more time and it souls get there. I can’t tell you what to do as it’s all your decision but your numbers are similar to mine and there is no way that I would be willing to take any kind of medication for my cholesterol when it’s just fine the way it is. Every study I’ve seen on the subject showed that those with low cholesterol were at a greater risk for all cause mortality and those with higher cholesterol, especially in my age range tend to live longer. I’m not a gambler but I’ll take those odds.
  6. I have seen this in other people and it’s not common but from what I’ve read it’s not completely uncommon for our numbers to go up especially in the beginning. Remember that your cells are using fat for energy instead of glucose. Fat needs to be transported in the blood inside lipoproteins (because fat can't mix with water/blood). So it is only natural that your cholesterols would increase when you are fat adapted. I would definitely give it more time before I got too concerned about it. It may level out more after you become fully fat adapted.
  7. Wow! That video is still circulating? That’s cool. I appreciate the advice on vitamin C. It’s been awhile since that video interview and in that time my system seems to have started to straighten out on its own. Taking a magnesium complex was helping but in the last month I haven’t need it. So I’m hoping I may finally be normal. But I will definitely keep your recommendation on file incase things turn back the other way.
  8. Spot on! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I was on the road yesterday and talking with my wife about this video and it dawned on me that I could take this up another notch. I was coming back from Louisiana and I love Cajun food and especially crawfish and it hit me, don’t just boil the catfish but use crawfish boil seasoned water just like you would with crawfish. My next mess of cars I’m gonna try this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I’ve been I Louisiana for a couple of days visiting family. I got home last night. In those two days I just never found the time to eat much. I just had a ribeye each day. When I weighed this morning I had lost 3 pounds. [emoji15] Dang!!! I was already at the minimum weight for my height and age. I don’t need to go any lower than that so I ate two meals today. Chorizo and egg tacos for brunch, and this evening a pound of Diezmillo steak. Sorry no pic of the steaks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. On my last blood test my total cholesterol count was 269. LDL (which is technically not a cholesterol) was 190. Triglycerides were 66. HDL was 66. Like Scott, my doctor is thrilled with my progress but also preaches low fat. He just doesn’t understand the significance of eating a high fat diet when you don’t eat carbohydrates. He also wants me on a statin but here’s why I will not go on a statin. They don’t do anything for your health. Absolutely nothing. If you have had a heart attack they may provide some benefit according to a carnivore cardiologist I listened to but they can only extend your life by 3-5 days. Sorry but that’s just not worth the side affects of that drug. Now let’s look at LDL. High LDL does not cause or contribute to cardiovascular disease. There has never been any evidence to prove otherwise. Now you didn’t post up your HDL and triglycerides. Those are the real indicators of cardiovascular risk. Ideally we want our Triglycerides to be less than 100 our HDL greater than 50. We then divide the triglycerides by the HDL to get our relative risk. We are looking for a number less than 2 and preferably less than 1.5. When you do the math on my ratio it comes out to a 1. I’ll take that all day long. I’m not the least bit concerned about my cholesterol because it’s normal on a carnivore diet because as we are using fat for fuel there is naturally going to be more cholesterol running around in the blood stream and that’s a good thing. I have a heart condition that appears to have been reversed by eating carnivore and my cardiologist whole heartedly supports my diet. He has taken me off of all my medications and says I’ve done more to heal myself than anything he could have done for me. He has also put me on a once a year visit just to see how I’m doing. You can do what you want Gary it’s totally up to you but I would like to encourage you to not fear the the fat. It’s what our lifestyle is all about. I will also add, do not let your doctor pressure you into doing something that you don’t want to do. This is your life and your health and you are in charge. Make informed decisions. Good luck Gary and welcome to Carnivore Talk.

  13. I was listening to a video from Dr. Chaffee today about cholesterol and he was saying that it was perfectly natural for the LDL to go up because when we became fat adapted and our bodies start using fat (ketones) for fuel there will have to be more LDL circulating in our blood to provide that energy source. 14. Ok brother you’re gonna have to tell me more about this. I fish mainly for catfish but I never heard of boiling it and dipping it in butter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I’m a firm believer that everyone has a different physiology so I don’t really care for the blanket statements that say something is definitive for each and every one of us. Something like this video is more of a guideline on what could happen for some people in my opinion and I wish that would be emphasized in these kinds of videos. The cautionary message I get from this is that if a person is struggling with their diet, if they are still experiencing metabolic problems or struggling with weight loss this is one area they should look at that may be the problem. It sounds like you’ve got a really good handle on your diet and goals. I think you’re doing great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Ate twice today. Fixed chorizo and eggs this morning and smoked a forequarter of a lamb all day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. We eat egg salad, deviled eggs, chicken salad and tuna salad quite frequently. You can make a clean Mayo made with butter. Look up Chris Cooking Nashville in utube. He has a good butter Mayo recipe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Calf fries are a staple for us during round ups. I’m one of the castraters. Uterus I have not tried. I haven’t eaten fish eyes but I my mother would. She learned to eat the whole fish head including the eyes when the family was stationed in Japan. Before my time though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Again, your energy is low because you are still adapting and you may need to increase your fat intake essentially after just having a baby and breast feeding. That’s a big hit on a woman. Your skin issue can be healed by carnivore. As with all healing it takes time. From everything I’ve learned about skin issues they are an autoimmune disorder that is a direct result of inflammation. How long do you need to eat carnivore??? For the rest of your life. This is not a diet but a lifestyle. It’s not something that just treats the symptoms like a pill but it cures the issue through nutrition by making the body metabolically heathy and therefore able to defend itself against disease. To keep that body metabolically healthy you have to keep it properly nourished. If you go back to eating the way you did that caused your illness before then you’ll revert back to it again. Now that doesn’t mean that you really need to be as strict as carnivore forever but you will need to find the food that was causing the inflammation to begin with and abstain from it forever. Check out Mikala Peterson and what she had to go through to discover what was literally killing her. It really shows how this is an elimination diet. We as carnivores do not believe that eating is all about balance unless you are talking about balancing fat to protein ratios and the different kinds of meats we eat. Don’t be surprised if you find out that your autoimmune issues are due to your sweets that you love. More than likely though it’s possibly due to seed oils in your diet. 20. Welcome to the group and welcome back to carnivore. Those who treat this as a diet are setting themselves up for failure from the beginning. It’s a lifestyle that one needs to commit to to be successful. I encountered the exact same thing with Adkins years ago. It allowed carbs and while I did great on it for ten years the carb creep got me and I completely failed. I’ve learned the this way of eating is not a weight loss diet but a eating lifestyle that heals our bodies. I also learned that I’m a carbohydrate addict and as with any addiction the only way to beat it is to totally abstain from it. I’ve managed to quit every addiction I’ve ever had, tobacco, coffee, tea and now carbs and I know that if I reintroduce any of them I’d be hooked all over again. I’m definitely not a moderator. I’m an addict. I hope y’all find your path and if you need any help then know we are here to help you any way we can with advice, knowledge and inspiration. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Almost everyone who starts out strict carnivore goes through this. For many they aren’t eating enough. For others they do better if they transition slowly into carnivore and just cut their carbs down to 50 a day and after a few weeks 20 a day and then eventually go straight carnivore. Everyone’s system is different so you may need to go a little easygoing for awhile. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I eat a lot of venison and venison is very lean so when I have ground venison I always add either a pound of chopped up bacon or breakfast sausage to every two pounds of ground to add fat into it. Chorizo is BM very good in it too if you can find some fresh chorizo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. No did modern man for the most part. They are the organs when they made a kill. I haven’t taken a deer yet this year but when I do the first things consumed will be the liver, heart and kidneys. For us they are the fruits of the kill. My daughter is fixin to butcher a steer and we will be getting the heart, liver and kidneys from that kill. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I had a similar experience with my primary care doc. He just loved all of the improvements in me and praised my success. I just told him I was very low carb, almost zero, which is the truth because there is some carbs in dairy and eggs. I didn’t use the “C” word. Lol. He told me to keep up the good work but make sure I’m only eating “lean” meats. I just chuckled. I have an appointment coming up for a physical and this time I plan on telling him that I’m carnivore and I hope he puts it in my records so it’s documented. If enough of us do this they may start seeing a trend in how proper nutrition can bring about great health benefits. My cardiologist already knows I’m carnivore and is very pleased with my results. In the last year he has taken me off of all my heart medications and has reduced my visits to once a year. My other cardiologist who performed my ablation is dropping me as a patient because he says I don’t need him anymore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Yes you need to wait it out. You are still very new to this way of eating and your body is still adjusting. It doesn’t happen overnight. There seems to be a lag time between using up the last of your glycogen stores and your body kicking up the ketones for energy. We often call this period the keto flu. There can be a host of other adjustments as well. I’m not sure if just one tablespoon of honey will kick you out of ketosis or not but why bother? It’s not carnivore. It serves no nutritional purpose and will not help you optimize your ketone production. Generally for most people to be in ketosis they need to stay under 50 carbs per day and to be really ketogenic they need to be under 20 a day. But everyone is different and different foods can affect us differently. How many carbs does one tablespoon of honey contain? 17 carbs? Judging by that number I’d say no, it shouldn’t kick you out of ketosis. But then again, is it really necessary in your diet. Your choice of course. The true test is to try it and see what happens. If everything in your diet is pure carnivore except the honey and you find yourself being metabolically healthy and you’re losing weight then you know it’s not an issue for you but if the opposite is true and you’re struggling to lose weight and still having metabolic problems then the honey may very well be the culprit. If it’s important to you then what I would do is give myself the best possible path to success by abstaining from the honey until my have achieved the goals I set out for myself in weight and health and then slowly reintroduce it back in and if there’s no issues then you can keep it in your diet. You may also find that when you reach that point you may no longer have the urge to ever use honey again. Since we are all different we have to find our own paths in this journey and find what works best for us as individuals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
